Jump Squats

megad

New member
When you do jump squats... are you supposed to go down past parallel (like you would with a normal squat), or are you just supposed to go as far down as you normally would when you jump?

Thanks alot

I already do full back squats on a seperate training day... this is on my plyo/sprint day. Im looking to gain inches on my vertical and leg power

do it how you like to jump then, but don't go too heavy.

start with bodyweight and then try 25lbs and see how you go. I never use mroe than 70lbs myself, and that's quite a bit.

You should be fast and reactive.

i am trying to see if jumping with heavier loads...225...135..will increase the amount of muscle that is stimulated at the bottom of a squats eccentric portion thereby increasing 1rm...

Mr Taranenko only does them with 100kg (220lbs)

but his best olympic back squat is 380kgs (873lbs).

i dont think it would be that wise until you are that strong

be careful

30% is the most of you should use, once you go past 30% velocity is so slow that power output is quite low, makes it pointless. Might as well do speed squats then :)

Even 30% is too heavy IMO.

Thanks for the input...at 135...i am pretty explosive...i squat 475 for a 1rm...anything higher might be too slow...
