juicing vegetables

I make my own fruit smoothies. Freeze some fresh cut vegetables in a Ziplock bag. I usually keep raspberries, blueberries, kiwi, strawberries, and bananas in my freezer. (OK OK, I buy the raspberries already frozen.)

Toss in some soy milk (or skim milk), a cup of low fat yogurt, half a frozen banana, some strawberries, some kiwi, and blend away. You can add some orange juice as well if you want. I usually throw in some whey protein as well. Blend until smooth.

The key is to use frozen fruit because you then don't need to add ice, which can dilute the taste. Make sure you use enough liquid (milk/orange juice) or it'll be too thick. It'll take a couple tries to get it right, but once you do, you can make $5-10 smoothies in your own home and get your recommended 2 cups of fruit every day.

Just out of interest, over here in the U.K, it's 'recommended' to have 5 types of fruit and veg a day. Most days I do this. Does anybody know the science behind this?

I think juicing vegetables is how people keep growing those huge pumpkins. I'd keep an eye out for very strict testing in the future.
