It's like that retarded question that a personal trainer asks you, "How out of breath are you on a scale of 1-10?" Fuck, think about how really stupid that question is. There's no way to properly gauge it.

the nurses would asked me that when I was in labor and I always thought a 10 was like...DEAD pain so I always said 3 or 4 you know mabye a 5..not so bad...hard to concentrate and breathe but I'm not dying right?

Where does an amputated limb lie on that scale? Let's say you're cutting off an arm with a hand saw, no anaesthesia. While the saw is actually doing its work it's gotta be way up around 10, but after the sawing is done and you've just got a bloody stump, would that be a 9, or an 8? Or being burned at the stake, surely that would be a 10, no? So how are you supposed to compare a natural bodily function to that?
