I was doing a solid 30 mins of running/jogging and about 4mph, but my calves have been burning and I cant run anymore. I do a 30 minute walk now at about 3.5-3.7, but just dont sweat as much. My heart rate at the walk is about 140. Is this sufficent???

JK...how does one find their max heart rate or do you just go by that chart where you cross reference your age and weight? I'm 27 and weigh 255 at 6'.

ask for a HR monitor for X-mas...until then it's 220-27(age) x.75 or .65

Lol. I actually asked for one. I currently burn at about 145. I just turned 22.

What is the benefit of doing cadio first thing in the am on an empty stomach?

Your stomach is empty first thing in the morning, so your body has to look to fat as a secondary fuel source. I do cardio first thing in the morning, and it is really effective, not to mention gets that shit out of the way!
I walk at 4 mph currently, increasing the incline 1% each week. Last week 4mph/1%, 4pmh/2% this week, etc. I walk for 30 minutes, 6 times a week. The duration of you cardio depends on how many times a week you are hitting it. Let's say that you are doing cardio 3 or 4 times a week, then try 45 minutes.
Also, I don't run because I find it is too high impact and I don't want to lose any leg strength or size, dieting takes off enough as is.
Good luck. :bigbuck:

Actually length of time matters..........body doesnt begin to burn fat until at least 20minutes......so most say its optimal to get in another 25 after that.........

Yeah, I do about 45-60 mins at about 3.5-3.7. 4.0 is what I run at. When I do run, I do a solid 30 mins, not including a 5 minute warm up. My calves burn real bad, so thats why I started running.

In refrence to BlondeBombers' quote:

I have big upper thighs, well, I think they are bigger, they used to be lean, and I want to lose weight there the most. Does that mean that I shouldn't run and just keep walking?
