Is the 5x5 worth a new forum?

As one of the many born-again weightlifters around here who seem to have had their eyes opened by coming into this forum and finding the madcow/Starr 5x5 program, I've noticed more and more threads which are being linked back into the madcow thread. More and more threads are cropping up which are just qestions for madcow. It's great to see it but it's taking over the general weightlifting forum.

Has it now reached the mass where the program deserves and even needs its own forum?

Two sides to that - 1) it really helps consolidate everything 2) it gets moved into a place where people who come here looking for training advice don't get any exposure to it. The people in #2 are really the ones I'm trying to help so that kind of works against the purpose.

The 5x5 thread itself is well into 20 pages so the chances on anyone randomly reading the whole thing is fairly small. This is why I've been adding the Table of Contents. One thing that I did notice is that the # of views go up significantly every time it gets posted on so I imagine the people who are interested in the program at least keep up with what's current. At this point, if the thread wound up with 60 pages, it wouldn't much dilute it or matter.

I think something to try would be to encourage people to just add their questions to that thread. This works out a lot better for me than a ton of individual threads or PMs (yes, I get a number of these and I think it's inefficient) which make it harder to consolidate information. Plus, the 5x5 thread is the first place I check so it makes it a lot more likely that someone will get their questions answered in a timely manner. Mods can also merge extraneous threads into the 5x5 thread (please merge them at the end of the 5x5 though - not sure if that's an issue). There is a redirect "Thread Moved" link so it shouldn't confuse anyone. No need to do this with old threads, just new ones that crop up.

That's probably my best idea. Just put it all in there for now and see how that works. Plus, anyone who wants to answer questions - please feel free. A lot of you guys know more than enough about this program to handle 95% of the questions that come up. With the table of contents it's easy to locate pertinent info and provide someone with a link. I'm not trying to push work off but I don't want to discourage others from fielding questions since a lot of them are fairly common.

That makes a lot of sense. We'll still get some fragmentation as people run their own journals but if we all make an effort to keep our questions in the main thread it'll help keep things tidy for all and help everyone to stay current.

I'm starting on monday. I'm excited to see what happens over the next 9 weeks till vacation. I would definately like to see the information consolodated on one page though. It's funny now when I think back to some of the best gains I've had, they were all done when I was working muscles 3 or more times a week. I'm sure some of that was because I was young but I think it was more than that. To think that I may have had it right all those years ago. I kind of pisses me off if 5x5 turns out to be as good as everyone says.

Well, you'll be pissed off but bigger and stronger at the same time so maybe those will balance out or even leave you at moderate happiness.

There's too much now to consolidate on one page.
The first post in the thread is now a table of contents: http://www.elitefitness.com/forum/showthread.php?t=375215
I rewrote my own old description (the other one was written really fast a few years ago) and tried to make it more comprehensive. It's here now and linked in the TOC: http://www.elitefitness.com/forum/showthread.php?t=375215

It is already linked in the Training Sticky at the top. When there are too many stickies, everybody glosses them over I think.
