1/4 Sicilian on my Dad's side So I have the family name.
My Dad told me stories about growing up in the 1920's, and being called Wop, etc. He said at that time, Italians were a looked on as lower class than other minorities in the US(Asian, Blacks)

Then we had the Mob issues's in the 30's -60's that made all Italian Americans look bad.

If one thing Italians have over other racial groups IMO it would be that they hold FAMILY above all else. Sometimes too high as is evident in the Mafia killings and rules..

Mafia doesn´t have much strenght anymore... but it still exists, and its not not just a sicilian problem. Napoli´s mafia is very powerfull, and the calabrese mafia also... Anyways Italy isn´t the country it used to be... they aren´t as conservative as you guys would think, for example the average spanish or portuguese is much more conservative than the average italian. Plus Italy is the world´s fashion "adviser"... they will sometimes dress like fools just to point themselves out. I´ve been there in the last week, i know how it works. Some guys in italy take care of their skins, teeth and hair more than the average american, german or spanish woman... so they aren´t "that" macho nowdays!!!
And Italy, although that´s changing, is still divided is 3 parts: from firenze north, one of the richest regions in Europe, specially milano... Between Firenze and Naples, and finally south of naples, including Sicilia...
But anywhere in europe, at least in europe, if you´re italian, just for being italian, you´ll have more chances with the girls... but for the most part italian people are very friendly and nice people to meet, although sometimes they can sound "too" friendly and you may ask yourself: "What does this guy want?" or you may be fooled by the chicks: just because they´re all smiles to you and tap you in the shoulders it doesnt mean that you´ll have any chances of getting laid you them...

Nuestros idiomas son muy similares... pero bueno, si los escuchas te pueden parecer bastante distintos, ya que nuestra pronunciación es muy cerrada. Nadie fuera de Portugal consiegue hablar el portugués... estoy exagerando, pero no es tan facil como aprender castellano...
