Is glycerine a carbo?

does anybody know if glycerine is a carbohydrate?

I asked ProLab about the carbohydrate content of the Liquid L Carnitine they produce, and they told me that the ingredients are:
Serving Size 4 Tablespoons (60ml)

Servings per container Approx. 6

Amount per serving

Calories 80
Pantothenic Acid 30 mg (d-Calcium - Pantothenate )
L - Carnitine 2000mg

Other ingrediants Glycerine, Water, Potassium, Sorbate, Sorbic Acid.

Now, I'd like to know where these calories come from and how they affect insuline in relation to a keto.

No, glycerine = glycerol = a type of alcohol. (Actually, the base of a triGLYCERIDE, or fat molecule).

It's processed like an alcohol, in that it is burned preferentially by the system. In large amounts, it can knock you out of ketosis by providing an alternate energy source (besides ketones/fat), but it does not cause any insulin reaction, so it's fine for simply low-carb dieters wanting to avoid insulin spikes.

Not sure how much keto dieters can take it, but I'd keep it under 20-30 grams of glycerine a day.

Seen that 4 tbsp of Liquid L Carnitine have 80 calories, and seen that it seems the only thing in the ingredients that has got calories , and supposed that glycerine has 4g of calories per gram (tell me if I'm wrong), should I assume a tbsp contain 5g of glycerine?

Achieving ketosis and managing blood sugar are two different things -- the other poster is correct that it will not affect blood sugar, however, ketosis is determined by liver glycogen (for example fructose will not affect blood glucose levels or insulin, but it will be converted to glycogen in the liver. I have not been able to find anything on sugar alcohols in regards to liver glycogen (and last time the subject was brought up, neither had Lyle McDonald) so I would say that it is still up in the air.
