In the case of the red indians of America...

The issue isn't that we conquered them almost to the point of extinction, it's that we made promises within our own legal system and then broke them; over and over again.

If we told them from the beginning - assimilate or perish; that would have been another issue. But we tried to have it both ways.

We said, "there is your land, live there peacefully and we won't interfere." Then we changed our minds. Then repeated the whole cycle.
