injectible dextrose?

what is this stuff? the doctor i work for has injectible dextrose 25mg/mL. this isnt slin is it?

Could be stuff to give to diabetics who are in the later stages of hypoglycemia... not sure.

hmm. anyone else? can you drink this stuff or use it post workout? i dont think its for diabetics since there are two orthopaedic surgeons and one pain control (this is the doc that has the dextrose) doctor. any idea what the dextrose is for?

k heres what the bottle says. its 25g not 25mg per mL.

each mL contains dextrose, hydrous .5grams ay contain NaOH and/or HCl for PH adjustment. 2.53 mOsmol/mL (calc.) pH 4.2 (3.2 to 6.5). sterile, nonpyrogenic. clean stopper with antiseptic. aseptically add to a suitable solution in IV container or used undiluted. use only if clearand seal is intact and undamaged. contains no bacteriostat; se promptly; discard unused portion. for intravenous use. usual dosage: see insert. caution: federal (USA) law prohibits dispensing without prescription.

so any idea what this stuff is? guess i better check the PDR...

It is definately not insulin but it is used for diabetics who are getting hypoglycemic, its in alot of dr's offices because there are alot of diabetics out there. (on all crash carts, never quite know why people go down) You could drink it but it wouldnt be any better than just chuggin down some gatorade or pedialyte just a hell of alot more expensive since it is for IV use.

Its a waste - sugar is so cheap.

Plus if you inject IV you run the risk of seriously going hyperglycemic.

I just bought a 100lb bag of dex for my slin for like $40. Lifetime supply.

so this stuff is for diabetics that go hypo? we've never had these before today. this pain control doctor is new to this office so i guess he is the only one using it
