Incline press or dumbell?

One arm may be stronger, and the other will fail before it, making it unable to finish another rep. But since you can't finish another rep with just the strong arm, they are still doing equal work.


Think of a teeter-totter.....if the long plank is exactly positoned at its midoint....the load is balanced.....if its off...there is a load differential

I understand that there can be an unbalanced load, with one arm actually being stronger than another. The point I'm arguing is that one arm cannot do more work than the other using a barbell. Since they both have to reach that same point to complete a rep, they are doing the same amount of work. One arm cannot finish more reps than the other, therefore a stronger arm cannot over-compensate for a weaker arm. The weaker arm will fail, and the stronger arm cannot carry the weaker arm through another full rep.

I have a little different approach to why I choose to train DB or BB. The angle of the bench decides it for me. At my gym all the incline BB benches are at 45 degree whereas all the incline DB stations are adjustable. When using DBs I can put the bench at a lower angle, like 30 degrees, so I can hit my chest better.

But if I feel like I need to hit my delts more I use the 45 degree on angle on the BB bench press.
