I'm so unhappy and displeased

They changed the subject - fucking bastards

My number one complaint about living here is that it is impossible to get anything here. And then when you do get it, you pay about twice what you would anywhere in the States, and it takes a month to get.

I tried to get a Mac laptop from Toronto, but apparently they are fresh out. Which means that I'm going to have to try to get one here locally, which means that it is going to cost me as much as my fucking Vespa and take forever to get.

I miss being able to walk into a store, pointing at something and saying "I LIKE THAT" and then after giving them very little money, they give said thing to you and you have it right there to touch and feel.

I'll buy it for you. All I ask in return is that you teach me how to dress properly.

Yeah, If someone else gets it, Would it be cheaper? Other than shipping I don`t understand why it would be more money.

cause your not cruising around on some tropical island. you would be more like jim carey in dumb and dumber in the freezing weather.

how come no one said that when I was going to get one?

1) they changed the subject- fucking bastards.

2) I would love for someone else to get one, but I'm not really sure if that would help.

3) gas is over $5 a gallon here

4) it costs so much more because of duty here. we have no income tax, but they charge 20-22% duty on nearly everything, but computers are 33% duty and cars are 100% duty.
So with shipping and duty and all that, it ends up being expensive to get shit.
The stores here then jack it up that much more to make their profit on it.

I wish I could just wait it out until Thanksgiving when I go home, but my laptop is fairly useless right now - if I do any computational analysis on it, it uses the processor more than 90%, which makes it heat up, and then it dies and won't turn on until it cools off an hour or two later.
And I can't ssh into a server in the states to do the work while I'm at my job because our network is too slow so I could literally have finished typing this entire response before it woudl show up on my screen.

there is a guy in my office going to Halifax next week, I'm gonna call some places there and see if they have them.
I want to skip work tomorrow, but I think that would be two friday's in a row I've missed.

ahh quit you crying and put on some more suntan lotion..

It has been raining here for the past week or so. It rained so hard yesterday that part of Harbor Road fell into the harbor. Has made traffic "teh suk" for the past two nights and supposedly will be done by tomorrow night.

I am going to try to order it directly from Apple and see if they will even send it here.
Also considering getting a digital camera as well since about 80 billion people have asked for pics of here and I see things all the time that I wish I had a camera for.
Of course this is just in time for when it is slighly drearier here - although compared to Boston it is nothing.

I saw a special fare from Boston to here for $129 - I gave serious thought to flying a friend here if they would come just to get the computer faster - and I could bypass duty if I had them say it was theirs - although that way I wouldn't get the box... if that matters.
But then said friend would have to stay a week.

Apple's website won't let me ship it here. Amazon't American website won't ship it here, and the UK one doesn't have Apple products.

I haven't tried calling Apple yet.

I am technically a big time switch here, and I live in a spot where I can't fucking get one. I should contact them and complain and say that if they want this switch, they sure aren't making it easy.

It is like "Here, I have money, I'd like to give it to you for what you sell." and they are just like, "Fantastic! Where do you live? Oh? Yeah, sorry, we don't want your money."

I e-mailed Mac Connection at their international sales address.

This is funny to see that people don't want my money.

I might have to resort to buying it off of Apple and having it sent to someone in the States and then have them send it here.
Pure efficency.

It's a really huge place. There's bound to be more than one.

NEVER

my lap is sweating due to a dying laptop

Can you buy a new one, have it shipped to someone in the states then have them ship it to you "de island man?" or am I just missing something? Besides what little intelligence I ever possessed or my penis that is.

Yeah, I could do that - except that all my credit cards are the Bermuda address, and in the past I have tried to have something shipped in the States and they basically freak out and take forever calling me thinking I'm scamming.

I found a few that do international (Outpost.com and Mac Connection - I will call them tomorrow).

Switching is harder than my dick... which is flaccid, so that makes no senese.

They dont have any duty free shops there?

Dont you have family in the US that can buy it with your $$ then ship it to you?

Not really - my mom is travelling for over a month for her job, and my dad is... hard to find.

I can do it through a friend, but then I get to pay extra shipping. Fun stuff.

Try living here, prteol (gas) is about $5 a gallon

Try living here, I was told today that gas is 16 cents a gallon.

But I don't need to buy gas, so it doesn't matter to me anyway.

Well, I e-mailed Outpost.com and some other online Mac site and asked if they would ship it to me. Then I noticed that they have a note on their site near the e-mail that essentially says that one is better off actually calling them instead.

So I called Outpost.com and asked if they would ship here, he said no, not for a PowerBook. I asked if it was some legal issue, and he said it was because there was an agreement with Apple that they wouldn't do that.

So I called Apple and I got a guy named "Sedj" - his accent was thick, but he was friendly. He tried to push a warrenty and anti-virus stuff on me and we went back and forth trying to figure out the order.

Finally got all that in and I'm shipping it to a place in NYC. Unfortunately they are apparently going to forge the metal and construct the standard beast from scratch prior to sending it to me and therefore it will be 7-10 days - meaning I won't get it until the end of the month instead of next week.

So that means that I will be having this crashing laptop until then and I'm none too happy about that.

And it is raining.

Did you read the post where we all gave BB vehicle recomendations, and he went ahead and did not listen ?

I fear you are heading down this same path my friend..

You need the Professor from Gilligan's Island. He'd whip you up a PC out of some old coconuts.

if the professor were there, NDN would be so busy having vicious castaway sex with him, that he wouldn't need a laptop anymore.

LOL - true. We shall see.

The OSes, for what I need to do, are pretty much at the same points now - except that I can open a terminal session in OSX and it is FreeBSD that I am working in.
Whereas, on a Windows box, I can open a command window and be in what is essentially DOS (technically I think it is more of an emulation mode at this point).

I would rather just run FreeBSD on my machine, but in terms of usability and graphics, the OSX is better than the window managers out there for FreeBSD - with 10.3 it is now faster too.

Either way, I need hardware that will last - that is the issue. After talking to a lot of people, the 4 options for laptops that are very durable (guys that use their laptops on worksites, things that can take a beating, etc):
1) IBM ThinkPad - that is out for me, I hate the point mouse thing
2) Sony VAIO - I hate their keyboard, I bought my fiancee one so I know what they are like
3) the military grade laptops - they cost a fuckload (approaching $10K) and they have older hardware
4) the PowerBook (I refuse to use an iBook, even though they get good ratings too)

So basically the Windows versions are out.

I have long hated the Macs, so it is feasible I still will - but I think I'm at the point where it doesn't matter any more. I'm interested in the casing.
If I don't like the OS, and the hardware is indeed good - then I can always wipe the OS and put YellowDog Linux on there - which I know is just fine for what I need.

I'll be the first to admit it though if it sucks :)
