Now that this Obama plan has me locked for two years on auto-trigger payroll, i'm going to float around the USA, meet meth-addicts and bang truck stop trailor trash.

Before the jealousy kicks in, just look it from my POV. When in life do oppurtunities to do nothing and get paid for it come along? Being on unemployment is 100% pure freedom. There is no counting down the days till the exotic all inclusive 7 day cruise, everyday is a Saturday when you ride the Obama wave.

This is not a shock value thread either, I am 100% committed to drifting the States and it's going to be phenominal.

What I need is experience drifters like Lestat to chirp in and pin point some good pit stops/must have accesories for the journey
 
WTF do you mean? arent you supposed to prove you're looking for a job in order to collect? how can you do that if you are drifting...?
 
Not planning for your future is a huge mistake. Instead of being lonely around the country and broke you should develop some sort of business in that time and work on the relationships you fugged up.
Runnng is never the answer unless you are a track star.

Since i've been basically handed two jobs to me only to have them both taken away at the last minute over the last 9 months, fuck looking for work anymore...the house is paid off so im gonna milk the unemployment extension for all its worth

Collecting is a joke. I literally log in once a week online, click on a few bubbles and a half stack gets booted right to my visa direct.

Lartinos ur right but this is a once in a lifetime chance to fly almost priority free, why not jump the ship and put the stressful career surf on hold for a bit while I can.

i just reopened my barry bux claim. i gets $559 per wk from illinios for a phone call. plus i'm a member of a union and they area "hiring hall" so i don't have to go look for work. plus if i do work and make less than $385 in a week i still get some obama money to compensate. plus the wife is workin now.

And therein lies the problem.

Whatever you subsidize, you get. We're subsidizing unemployment, hence we're going to get more.

It's the perfect storm. You encourage people to not go back to work. Then you declare war on their employers. More and more people then become dependent on government.

It's the road to serfdom. We'll never need a tyrant in the US, because we're embracing a soft tyranny with open arms.

Depends (kids, spouse, tax bracket, etc) , in OH i'm getting roughly 2/3's my previous employement bi-weekly salary, every two weeks. PLUS $200 a month on a food card. The length of your unemployment funds also depends on how long you were at your job.

although i'm an employed bum, a slacker like me should keep that in mind. i'd much rather do something meaningful (see: rachel's thread for all the answers about that) and make money, but until i figure my soulstuff out, i can always* count on the government to help me if i should get fed up of my IT job!

* by always, i mean until the country collapses.
 
unemployment has been extended up to 99 weeks, and now I think they've extended it beyond that (did I hear 13 more weeks?).

Unemployment insurance is paid by your employer, so it's not supposed to be a draw on the system, but when you get 10% of the population unemployed (and another 10% also technically out of work though unable to collect unemp.), and no jobs on the horizon for years, you have to provide the extensions (the people demand) and you run out of the UI money that employers paid. Not to mention they spent all that shit anyway because the gov't is crooked as hell and piss poor with our money. So, we end up broke everywhere.

So many years of prosperity and what do we have to show for it? We've saved nothing. Spent it all. We've been conditioned to do so now for 50 years or so, and we jumped right in. Buying stuff is fun! Spend, spend, spend! But nobody has anything to show for it! Not consumers and not even the businesses they spent the money at. It's all in China now.

What were we talking about? Fucking government. Fucking people!
 
you should collect unemployment in Ohio, and travel to another state and work there for long enough to collect unemployment there, then get laid off from that job. Start a claim in that state. Move on to the next state and start again. See how many states you can collect from. That would be awesome. Id say you could write a book or do a reality documentary on it, but they may be able to prosecute you.

Stick it to the man.

lambruh, meh, not to shit on your parade...but i dunno, driving all that way, staying with dubious people, seems a bad idea for a recovering bro...gonna be mad temptation, plus the euphoria of being out of your element could help you justify getting back invovled.
and unless you got cake stacked up for family resources to tap, what happens when the UE runs out

I need to bookmark this thread as a reference for a future thread about what is wrong with America.

This will be #1-"Americans proud to be welfare parasites"

I would solve the unemployment compensation system by privatizing it and anyone could choose how much to contribute and you would get a lump sum based on your contribution...it would work like real insurance...no welfare checks. I maintain six months of 100% living expenses for a rough spot because I'm an adult and thanks to fed monetary policy my responsibility is being penalized as my money becomes less valuable by the day.

I was raised that it was shameful to be living off the government....your fellow hard working citizens.

Which is why we put a plant there! We've been in CR since 1994.

Costa Ricans have a very good workforce. They're good people and work hard to get ahead.

it gives me mixed feelings, most of CR industry thrives in call centers which is good for the country's economy but at the same time it makes me sad that those jobs are not where they belong here in America :(

This thread really got me thinking about something.

Obviously UE was never meant to enable professional drifting, but what else does it enable?

There should be a study on how many people successfully return to work after long periods of UE. I'd also like to see how many of them pick-up alcohol/drug problems. The old adage "Idle hands are the devil's tools" might apply here.

This may be another situation where misplaced compassion winds-up hurting the intended beneficiary.

Denmark had theirs capped at five years but lowered it to four due to budgetary constraints, "The problem with socialism is that eventually you run out of other people's money to spend." They found most people got jobs right before it expired, five years or four years...they found the same at three and two years. Therefore, the euro welfare state of Denmark provides two years of unemployment benefits.

From what I've read, economists have found a substantial decline in job skills at the one year mark.

That's what hit me earlier. Think of the mllions of people who are losing skills, not keeping up with trends, being tempted by drugs & alcohol, etc.

EXtended UE may be a very cruel way to teach people helplessness.
