My very first time, we went for about 8 hours (with a few short 15-20 min breaks) and there was no scabbing. A bit tender and raw, but nothing like what you're describing. She was of course blessed with an AMPLE amount of natural lube and I think that's what made all the difference.
I have been with some women that were not so blessed in that area and after only a couple hours it was too sore to continue, but still no scabbing.
