If you are getting e-mails about a Microsoft path, they are a virus

If you are getting e-mails about a Microsoft patch, they are a virus

I have been getting a huge increase in my Inbox of messages that fake being from Microsoft and tell me to install the attached file to patch something on my system.
The e-mails look vaguely official, but if you look at the headers, they come from various places that are not Microsoft at all (Comcast and AOL which are home service providers).

It is a result of a virus that spreads over a few different ways, and via the e-mail route it exploits a very old hole in IE 5 and 5.5 and as a result also in Outlook and Outlook Express.
The patch for this has been around since 2001 - but apparently people don't bother with that, because I'm getting assloads of these viruses sent to me.

If you go to Symantec, they will tell you more about it.

Don't be one of the jackasses - if you get an e-mail from a large company out of the blue and they tell you to execute a program - it WILL be a virus. If you think otherwise, go out and shoot yourself immediate.

Hello, Google news three days ago says hello.

Hmm, well, the patch is from 2001 - so I guess it is more like "hello over two years ago"

that said, I'm still getting the fucking e-mails from morons, and there are more morons on here than anywhere I else I encounter everyday - so I'm getting the word out.

It is good to see that someone uses Google news though, thanks.
