how long after your cast was off was it before you felt 100% and were able to lift no problems ??

I got a compound fracture in my left arm just below my bicep in high school. Got it during spring practice my sophomore yr and was out that whole yr. It was nasty. My bone almost broke the skin. I wore a cast for almost 3 months and had it in a sling for like 5 months. Took a long time to get back to normal and I now have arthritis in it. This probably isn't what you wanted to hear. Mine was relly f'd up though so maybe you'll get heal up sooner. Best wishes...

I only had to wear my cast for 8 weeks, and then a month after i felt 100% again!!

I don't see how that's possible. I had a complete break at the wrist space in my left arm where only ligaments/tendons were holding my hand to my forearm. I had surgery with screws/pins, in a cast for 6 weeks, and could barely bench 135 without it feeling like it was going to break. The problem with a cast is it helps the bone heal, yet keeps your muscles and tendons from moving to the point of muscular atrophy as well as shorter tendons. Everything has to be built back up and stretched out over a period of time. It took about 6 months after the cast came off to get back to where I was before.

It's been two years now and am benching my personal best (315x4) and moving up every day. In fact, the opposite wrist hurts occasionally, but the one I had surgically repaired never has any pain. Maybe I should have the other one 'built' by the ortho surgeon, too :)

Good luck!

I broke both the radius and ulna just above my right wrist when I was 14. I wore a cast for 6 weeks and it took a solid month after the cast was off to regain full mobility (tendons and ligaments tighten from disuse and restrict movement). I couldn't put significant pressure on it for years. I couldn't even arm wrestle with my right arm for years.

I broke my hand... a couple knuckles. I was lifting heavy all the way through... never stopped. I just got in the habit of balancing the bar on my palms. I couldn't grip anything.

It was freaky when I got the cast off. My hand was paralyzed for days. I couldn't make my fingers open. It was like the thought "open" just wouldn't work any more.

Work around injuries. Don't let them stop you.

i was doing powercleans with 1 arm and cathcing them on my collar bone jsut don;t be a pussy and it shouldn;t slow you down that much

I shattered my radial head and broke my scaphoid bone on Jan. 23. I also dislocated my elbow and tore the lateral ligament off the humerus. I had surgery for all that (3 screws, one pin) on Jan 29th.

It still hurts and i have limited movement. But it get better.

Obviously the elbow is the big problem, the wrist is secondary. The wrist still hurts but I stretch it out every day.

I can bench very light as PT, same for tri pds, pulldowns, and curls. VERY light, just to keep it from atrophying even worse.

The one thing I CAN do, as I discovered yesterday, is deadlift. I did 275 for 10 and it wasn't a problem. I think that will also help stretch it out.

I expect to get everything back within a few more months.

BTW I'm 28.

We should actually post up who broke their hand in the stupidest way. I put my fist through a TV set at a trade show. It exploded like a cannon. Boom! :)

i broke my humerous bone(bicep bone) in half, a year ago and i still have problems when i do lateral raises for shoulders its simply too much pressure on my arm and i have to make it a short set...then again i am older

hey untouchable...i just got over a spiral fracture of my humerous...man did that suck...been 3 months and just getting back into the swing of things!! did you have cast or humeral brace only

I broke 2 metacarpel in my hand in a fight(not a street fight, I fight pro). I had to have surgery because the bone was sticking through my skin.

It took me roughly 6 months to be able to lift 100%, but I still get scared to punch too hard with it.

Wow I broke 1 metacarpel in my hand, boxer's fracture except a little lower on the bone. I've had the cast of about a month and its still tender. I've been lifting any way. No heavy heavy weight tho, and no bench press.

I guess my biggest concerned was if there would be any hinderence to the healing process if I lifted .. lightly for the most part.. while it was still kind of hearing.

I broke my ankle and I swear it was a year before I did not feel pain when doing leg presses and squats
