I have to give a speech about dieting-help!

So on Saturday I have to give a speech about getting your diet in check if you lift weights. I'm not just asking for all the answers, any input will help. I don't want to say something incorrect and be correct by some jackass listening to me. Basically I figured I'd go over some basics.....how many calories to take in per day, fat, carbs, protein. I'll tell em when to eat what. I'm not sure how many calories one should take in while dieting though, I need a good average number. Then i'll talk about good fat sources(ANPB, flax oil, olive oil, fish oil, nuts) and bad fat sources(pretty much everything else right??) Tough part will be to explain why those sources are good fats, and how much fat to take in.(i have no idea) Carbs are pretty easy to explain and I'm gonna tell em stick around 150 at first and slowly take it down. Again I don't know why complex carbs are better than simple carbs. Finally I"ll tell them all about protein, to take in 1.5-2g per pound of LEAN BODY MASS. Is there anything else I should go over? This speech only needs to be a few minutes.

My suggestion would be to download Tom Venuto's BFFM. You can literally plow through that in a couple of days. Then literally spit it right back out in your speach. Make a short outline of the majore points that you want to hit and go off of that. That book is the most informative, no BS piece of literature on nutrition I've encountered.

Hey bro, is this an informative or persuasive speech? If informative, I really reccomend what was described above. Heard nothing but good things about that book. I recently did a persuasive speech on the same topic, I would suggest throwing some information in there about the consequences of poor diet like decreased insulin sensitivity. Talk about MSG in american foods, fast foods (ie fast food). Scare tactics make for a great persuasive speech IMO. People don't like to hear a lot of droning about best practices. If you have access to an online library at your school, check if that grants you access to an online search engine to find sources in medical/scientific journals for success. Good luck.

The macronutrient ratio:

Consume 60% carbohydrates, 30% proteins and 10% fats.

Is this correct ? – “If you consume 100 grams of food, then it should be 60 g carbs, 30g protein and 10 g fats”…

That’s absolutely wrong. When I say it in ratio it refers to the percentage of calories coming from each source. So the right way to consider is, - “ If I consume 100 calories, then 60 calories should be from carbs, 30 calories should be from protein and 10 calories should be from fats”.

Why on the basis of calories?

It is because,1 g protein = 4 calories, 1 g of carbohydrate = 4 calories and 1g of fat= 9 calories.

So fats constitute more than twice the amount of calories from protein or carbohydrates.
