I have a really weird question...

Anyone ever heard of someone's body temperature dropping during or right after a work out? My body temp. normally is right around 97.5 but during working out and right after when I check it, it's dropped to 96.1. Is my thinking off to "assume" that body temp. should increase when you are sweating and feeling toasty warm?

i thought the point of sweating was to cool your body off, so it would make sense to me that your body temperature would cool down after you finish your work out. it would also make sense if you are somewhere that the air is on or fans are circulating, that your temp would drop, especially after you are finished working out and your body is still trying to cool itself

How are you measuring it?

Measuring it with a thermometer, actually two of them just to be sure.

No depression, nothing a normal human doesn't deal with anyhow. Lack of motivation? Thats just the 20 carbs a day talking doesn't stop me.

Where are you are measuring your temperature?

Oral, tympanic or rectal?

If it is anytime during or after exercise, it has to be rectal.

Hhhhhhhmmmmm.... sounds kinky. heheheee

But seriously, what prompted your doc to ask you to take your body temps several times a day, especially around the time that you train?

He did not ask me to specifically monitor it when I exercise. Just to check it when I wake up, right before I eat breakfast, 20 minutes after breakfast...etc through out the day and then also before I exercise, during and directly after. He asked this because I am showing all signs of hypothyroid and from what I read and understand a lowered body temp. is one of the signs they look for. I just wondered if anyone else had ever noticed or experienced such a drop in body temp. during/after working out.

Your doc needs to do bloodwork to confirm.

I've checked my temp orally following a workout and it is lower than normal or preworkout. We never use oral temps in the labs during exercise experiments, always rectal or esophageal. Too many variables in the mouth (i.e., breathing will cool the mouth, changes in blood flow, consumption of fluids, etc.).

and there's nothing kinky about rectal probes during exercise.
