Sigh. Have you listened to the difference in Billie Holiday's voice over the years? It grew completely distorted by the drugs and smoking, but, still there was something of value inside it that seemed to be enlarged. Maybe it was the weird combination of struggle and surrender. That's sort of the way I feel about Joni and Marianne.
