HUGE sweating problem

DrBones

New member
hey guys,
I know this probably doesn't belong here.. but I'm curious if anybody has any thoughts or information on excessive sweating.
Right from the second I hop out of the shower.. weather I'm hot, cold, or just fine.. My armpits start sweating LIKE CRAZY... I don't even buy white shirts any more because i wear them 3 or 4 times and they have disgusting pit stains... The only place I sweat is my arm pits.. but I have a tendancy to get hot REALLY easily.
I used to have a lot of anxiety, but it has pretty much completely gone away since I broke up with my GF a few months ago. I have noticed that if i drink coffee, I sweat almost 2 times as much..
I don't have too much stress, other than money.. but I don't tend to stress about it overly...
I don't have headaches or any major health issues as far as I know, other than some some shoulder problems and some upper spine subluxations... but I'd really like to find out what causes this...

I try to take my daily vitamins
Vitamin C
Multi-vitamin
zinc
vitamin B
Calcium

Is there any health problems that make you sweat so much? Or is it just the luck of draw and I was doomed to have over active arm pit sweat glands?

What about supplements to help prevent it?

I'm sick of having drenched arm pits

Thanks

Go to your dermatologist and get Drysol now! You probably have hyperhidrosis, which is excessive perspiration. I used to have pit stains all the time whether it was 20* outside or 100* Drysol is absolutely awesome.........no stains at all. It may irritate your skin a little bit, but there are things you can do to lessen that. If you dont want to get prescription strength yet, you can get a product called CertainDri over the counter in the deodorant section. It also contains Aluminum Chloride (active ingredient) but at a much, much smaller concentration ( I believe 12% as opposed to 20% or so)

Isnt aluminum chloride the active ingrediant in anti-persperants?
I use anti-persperants, but I've heard the aluminum in it is TERRIBLE for you... Doesn't aluminum cause AlsTimers (however you spell it?)
I think I'll go talk to my doc about it! Thanks for the ideas
Does anybody else know much about sweating problems?

I also have a terrible arm pit sweating problem. It sucks, I never even wear a grey shirt any more because of it. And yes alumium is terrible for you.

lol
:FRlol: :FRlol: :FRlol: :FRlol: :FRlol: :FRlol:
You should have seen the night in college, when I decided to wear the thin grey shirt.
Lets just say that a buddy poured a 7 beer pitcher on me to even out the persperation. lol.
I have the grey shirt disease too. When I stopped drinking my sweats stopped. I still have a grey phobia though.

My theory is that my body is always so ready to go and do something like a workout or a run that i sweat when i give it a hint of any physical activity...

I do find however that when i do cardio or workouts on many days in a row my body temp. must be up because it is a lot easier to sweat.

It's healthy anyhow...and at least i know i am having some influence on my own function.

It may be healthy... but it REALLY sucks...
No grey shirts... no dark colored shirts.... they get a big black mark in the pits... I'm pretty much limited to black clothes... and god forbid any female to put their arm around my mid section and even slightly lift up.. or they can a hand covered in sweat... Luckily I dont stink... then I would just lock myself in my room...

True true...
I guess any of the above replies will prob end up helping you out.

I think we might just have to make a vancouver crew get together or something...

Yes, it is an active ingredient but not nearly close to the concentration in Drysol or other such products. My dermatologist gave me no warning about aluminum chloride, and I could not find any negative information on the Internet regarding it. Also I use Drysol maybe once every 2-3 weeks and it prevents me from sweating for that long. You dont need to use it every night, and it is not like you are bathing in it. You apply it very sparingly to the armpits. I have been using it for over a year now, without a single side effect except some itching in the armpit area. I would like to see a study linking aluminum chloride to Alzheimers haha!

I doubt I'd be able to find one myself (a study) regarding aluminum... I've just "Heard" negative things about it... But I'll definitely talk to my doc about it... always open to options...

Yeah seriously Bones just go to a dermatalogist and ask him/her about Drysol and hyperhidrosis in general. Im just telling you that I was in the same boat as you were a year ago, and I will never get off Drysol unless I see/hear some astounding study linking it to major health issues. Not being able to wear certain clothes, and being afraid to lift your arms up in public sucks ass. As far as Im concerned this stuff is a godsend and I can wear whatever the hell I want to now days. Good luck. And remember there are as many health related urban legends floating around as there are normal ones. People flip a shit if some study shows a .0000000000001 correlation between a product and a disease in a lab rat. My .02

I used to have a copy of the study done on the Seattle Supersonics basketball team. There was a study done on the athletic performance of each athlete before and after discontinueing the use of their alumium based anti-persperants.
I'll dig it up sometime and post it.

Strange how much I sweat, but I never stink.

So this drysol stuff.... Does it completley prevent you from sweating or what? 1 application every couple of days supplies multiple days of sweat prevention?
Got any web sites for the stuff? Wouldn't mind reading the low down on how it works...
Thanks

bigdelt: I would really be interested in reading that study. I just find it very hard to believe that aluminum zirconium (most over counter anti-perspirants) or aluminum chloride would cause a profound effect on athletic performance assuming that is what your study shows. If thats the case, Im ditching anti-perspirants forever in hopes of a 500lb bench. :D

Bones: Yeah it works real well man. You may sweat a tad under your pits, but it wont even be enough to show up on a shirt. If you do a general search for Drysol you can find a lot of information. Also, do a search under hyperhidrosis and you will find alternative treatments (alternative to Drysol which is a topical application) --- (ie. electrical treatments, as well as injection treatments) But most importantly I would just call up a dermatalogist. I have researched the topic a lot, but I am by no means a doctor. Just trying to help out another bro who sweats like he stole something. :D

Cool, I'm gunna do a search on Drysol right now... see what pops up..
I'd also be interested in reading that study regarding the supersonics....
thanks

I just did a search on it.. and the company that sells it
excessivesweat.com is like a 10 minute drive from my office....
I don't even think you need a prescription... The other product they have sounds a bit freaky... mentioning drying up your sweat glands....
I'm gunna go to the doc in the next couple days hopefully and see what he says... I just hate wrecking all my white shirts!
Thanks

i sweat a lot. armpits, groings, and behind the knees are my worst problem areas. i stink pretty bad sometimes. i'm guessing it's a side effect of being well over 20% bodyfat..

First get a thyroid check. Thyroids have a serious case of body temp and sweating problems. Rule that out first. Then go and try Maxim and Drysol. Bones. Maxim and Drysol works because the chemical in the drysol reacts with water. In the morning You wash the area (it won't come off in the shower) it reacts with water and irritates the sweatduct causing it to swell or close. This is why you don't need to use it every day. 10 days of use daily and then you prally wont need to use it more than twice a week.

You are suffering from a condition mentioned above called Hyperhydrosis. Its sucks. I know because I'm also a sufferer. Mine just started a year ago and have been battling it since. Drysol unfortunatley does dick for your palms. I only sweat in the hands. (go figure) But i found out my aunt has the same condition. Hereditary. So i found myself the only thing that works, a device called Drionic. www.drionic.com sells them. It uses electronic current to irritate the sweat duct and shuts if off for about 5 weeks. I mean BONE DRY. Its a royal pain in the ass to maintain dryness but it works. twice a week for a half our in the machines to maintain. If you sweat pretty bad and nothing works for you, last resort is sympathatic surgery. Done in about 30 to 60 minutes. Inssurace covers it. They clip two nerves and your sweat problem is shut off completely. 3% of patients develope CS (compansatory sweating) which may cause you to have a worse condition sweating from your ass and legs.

My question here is if I may:

I wonder if bodybuilding plays a major role in hyperhydrosis? I never had this problem before I started working out. I know intense training shocks the nervous system. The sympathatic nerve that controls anxiety and sweating is part of that system. I train hard and Intense but not about to give up training to find out. If anyone has any experience with this I too would love to know because I'm about to go inquiring about getting surgery done if my thyroid check comes back normal.

Its funny.. I've always joked around about having an overactive thyroid... maybe i do.... I'm definitely going to look into this...
is there any negative effects to making your sweat glands shut down.. it sounds VERY unnatural...

not at all. they have been doing this for years. Drionic is recognized and approved by dermatology groups around the world. Its even in books. some people even get botox shots to irritate the sweat ducts.

If you do get a thyroid check, post your results. Very interested.

I hate sweating and man do i sweat! I sweat more than anyone i know. I am just always warm i think. I have a 3 block walk to my gym from my apt. and by the time i get there, I am already sweating hard. I used to get really embarassed especially cause a sweat a lot through the seat of my pants - I actually sweat EVERYWHERE, but since i sit down a lot, that's where it soaks through. People used to comment about why my butt was wet, but now i just dont care - i figure its a sign that i am working my ass off and they are not.

But honestly, i would love to stop sweating so much. But i searched for this Drysol product and it seems to be just for pits. Is there anythign you can get that will slow down overall body sweat???

Yea a thyroid Check.

I appreciate that you suggest getting a thyroid check, but honestly, doesn't the thyroid control a whole lot of stuff in the body. Aren't the pituitary and the thyroid the control centers of the body? I just seems to me that if i had a thryoid problem I would have more symptoms? Like crazy weight gain/loss, bloating, swelling, etc.

Any thoughts on whether or not a thyroid problem could be so narrowly symptomaitc?

-Fatty

True, you would think.. But the thyroid plays a role in body temp. You say your always hot. Maybe you have high blood pressure or maybe you just borderlining overactive in the thyroid. Who knows. Maybe your fine all around and just suffering from HH (hyperhydrosis) If thats the case its simply overactive sympathatic nerves. And surgery is the only answer. First rule out blood pressure and thyroid. Then go from there.

I got less sweaty pits after i started keeping my darn pit hair as short as possible. I wasnt comfortable shaving it all off so i kept the length to a minimum.

I've also read that botox injections help people with sweaty issues. Not sure how effective it is but no harm checking it out.

Hope this helps. :)

now i dont have horrible pit sweat problems, but my butt sweat is uncontrollable, will the drysol work for that:confused:

Dude, i have that too and i hate it. At first i didn't know i had it, and after working out, people would ask me "Why are the back of your pants wet??" I was perplexed. I had no idea why? In time i realized that i just sweat like a monster when ever i get hot or give out the slightest amout of exertion.

I have learned to accept it a bit more now adays and pretty much ignore the butt sweat in the gym cause there i figure i am at least working for it. What really bothers me is when i sweat when i am just sitting in the office and its hot out.

If you find a solution, let me know!!!

man the worst is when im not doing anything, ill be laying in bed staring out the wall for a couple hours and my ass will start sweating, i can actually feel the sweat come out of the pore. it freaks me out everytime cuase i think someone is messing with me and i swing around to hit someone and theres no one there, so i instinctively check my ass for sweat.

also what really sucks is when is when my ass starts sweating while im taking dump, i fell asleep one time(it was late) and i fell off the damn toilet becuase of it.

the government should fund a study to find out what cuases excessive ass sweating. they arleady waste money on other stuff so why not

Gimp is the sweatiest mofo you'll ever ecounter. Man, I used to have to change my shirt 4 times per day due to sweaty pits. Drysol saved my life. I sweat a little bit now in the a.m., maybe the size of quarter on my pits then nothing for the rest of the day. Be careful not to apply too much though. Go light at first, 'cause it itches like a bitch. Try drying your pits with a hair dryer first and then apply the drysol directly to your sweat area of the pits before bed. Do it everynight before sleeping for 2 weeks then you'll only need 1 or 2 times per week touch ups. Avoid taking really long hot baths as it decreases the effectiveness. You don't need a prescription in canada, but it's kept behind the counter. Good luck.

Certain Dry Roll on.. I swear by it. Over the counter.

Very important that you shower at night, roll it on and let it dry
and then sleep with it on OVERNIGHT...
It works as you sleep to shrink the sweat glands.
Use it every night for like a week and then you can cut back to using it once a week and then even a couple times a month.

Using regular deodorant the other days...
