how to get to pro bodybuilder level ?

Being an older Competitor and having so many close friends who were insane for BB back in their late teens, 20's I can tell you almost all of them dont even train anymore in their 40's . I think the pro coach laid out the harsher reallity of this game. It is IMPOSSIBLE to get to an NPC National level w/ out gear. Take it one step further, It is even more impossible to get to an IFBB level without gear. I dont care what your genetics are, how much food you eat, how hard you train..IT will NEVER happen. As someone else mentioned..getting a Frank Zane type of physique would even be a far stretch without gear. I would bet the chances of getting on the Olympia stage are no different than the odds of becoming a pro Basketball, Baseball or Football player. I was there when I was younger, I wanted it so bad but luckily I was exposed to the pro bodybuilding scene when I was young and got the wake up call when I realized what exactly was involved. The more sinister side of this is the politics involved..as you climb the ranks it gets harder and harder if you dont play the game just right. Lastly One thing to remember. No matter how well you look now, how strong you are at some point father time will ALWAYS win out. When I trained with Frank Zane I asked him what his biggest regret was. He said getting old. Its very hard when you were once on top of the world. This coming from a guy who was 200lb when he won the olympia..So remember the bigger you get the harder your gonna have to fight every year to keep that muscle on. Wow..I think I may have just sabatoged my own workout later. Totally depressed :mix:

This is actually great info... There is a sinister side to BBing.. And it takes a toll on the body mentally as physically. I am a national level bber and will be competing for a pro card in 2013, and he is right. U have to play the game... And u have to be strategic in every aspect of it... Diet, training and ur gear runs. It's more than eating chicken and lifting heavy weights. Time takes its turn on all of us, so do what u can while u can do it.

That post just got me amped for my workout tonight!! Thank u sir!

Good man.. Pro card in '13 is great. Everyones dream. Best of luck!!! Im doing a show next May..Master/Light heavy..You have re-energized me..now Im gonna kill it tonight. As for the original poster...I didnt mean to make it seem hopeless, but as with anything you gotta approach this lifestyle for what it is. If one choses to try and compete, especially at a National level( c-lo34 can confirm this better than me ) you should just go into it with your eyes wide open.

Great post bro. I envy you for having the oppurtunity to train with Frank Zane. Due to his insane aesthetics, he is my favorite bodybuilder of all time. That guy just had the most perfect physique IMO

Somone ban that guy for multiple posts.

JK!

It was the best Christmas gift my wife could ever have gotten me. Its sad in a way that the era of having a more "beautiful" body like Zanes is long gone. If you read some recent interviews by Sergio Oliva he mentions how hes friends with the old timers, Zane included. Back then it was Test, Deca and d-bol thats it. Zane was open with me about it, didnt really put a great deal of emphasis on it, but we did speak about the amounts that todays pro's have to take. Oliva said if we had available back then whats available today he would be scared to think what the guys in the 70's would have looked like. I do think however as an NPC competitor myself..the rise of the "physique" class is giving you an indication of where the popularity of this is all going. Hopefully that class brings in many more competitors to raise the purses on these contests for everyone.

Zane was a freak. Little small for my personal tastes.

Remember back in like 94-ish.......remember Dennis Newman before he got cancer or whatever it was? He was like superman visually. A perfect transition from the Arnold era. Not blown up like the monsters of today. If pro BB'ing was about that look it would be awsome.

If anyone here is on their way to a pro card any time soon its C-LO. You just have that look bro. You got it.
