How much do you pay for your gym membership???

HansNZ

I am just curious to see what people in various countries pay for their gym memberships?

I am told that gyms overseas (i.e. outside New Zealand) are very expensive. A friend of mine who is living in London is paying about triple what I pay, and his gym certainly isn't of the same standard.
My gym is pretty good. It wouldn't compare to the best gyms in Sydney, NYC, London, etc. but it is certainly well above average.
It was built two years ago. It has 11,000 members. Its pretty large (3 large floors) with lots of new equipment.

My membership fee converts to US$225 per year (or about US$18-19 per month). How does this compare to what you guys are paying? Is this cheap compared to other places? Maybe London just unusually expensive.

wow, 18 bucks a month seems pretty good to me. I'd never joined my own gym until about a month ago because I always had a family membership. Of course my dumbass went to the closest one to where I'm living and it just so turned out to be LA Fitness. It sucks but gets the job done. After reading your price I think I'm getting assraped though. I paid 120 bucks just for the intial fee then 29 bucks a month after that. Only thing I really liked about it is that it's open 24/7

22$ a month at World Gym in cincy.......i had to change gyms after i watched that little bro get his legs messed up...........:(

I remeber your post about that kid who got really fucked up....do you know if he's ok? Anyway, I pay $60.00 a month at World Gym in CT. But I'm planning on changing gyms...I'm actually thinking of going to Elite Fitness in Hamden, CT for $25.00 a month.

$16.22 for World's here. But I've been a member for the past few years. New memberships cost about $25/month I think.

385.00 a year for Worlds Gym. Its 24/7.
Ok gym nothing speacial but its kinda run down which makes is hardcore looking.
Only join cause of location to home and work.

$375 to sign up and $75 a month at RDV Sportsplex here in orlando. The thing I love about it is that you pretty much get the freeweight section to yourself since everyone is in the HUGE cardio section...

Man you actually pay that much money for that place? I know it's nice but shit. I just go to any of the paramounts in town for either 199/year or 20/month. They may be shitty compared the the RDV but hell, all I need is some free weights and I'm happy. They have what, a couple olympic pools, baskteball courts, raquetball and other stuff too right? Plus all the weight rooms of course:p

$30/month at LA Fitness.

The gym friggin sucks...d-bells only go up to the 125's, and they don't even have a military press.

It's really not that bad considering what you get...play a little ball on your off days for cardio, massuese on site, but the main thing that makes it worth it is no-one giving you shit or an attitude or having to wait for waldo to finish his curls on the squat rack...

No one at my gym has inquired about me paying anything, since my membership expired seven years years ago. I think that's because I open the place up sometimes when the counter person is late. And over the years I promoted the place pretty well.:)

The United States is definately the country of bodybuilding. You guys have the best gyms in the world (as well as the most inexpensive supplements around).

The gyms in Mexico suck. They are crappy, run down with beat up equipment and quite expensive fees. About 45US a month.

What happened?
I'm not positive bulldog, but if I remember correctly, some young kid packed on extremely heavy wieghts on a verticle (I think) leg press machine. There was a problem with the machines safety mechanism and the machine came crashing down and crushed the poor kid's legs....blood and bone fragments were all over the place.

$8\mo. Voted best gym in town. 24 hours, pools, raquetball, huge free weight room, etc. I signed up long ago when they had some good deals though, its much more expensive now.

30 bucks a month and its open 5am to 10pm..
Used to pay 50 bucks when I lived in Colorado.
Its alot cheaper here in Florida and the gym is adequate. It lacks all the "bells and whistles",i.e jacuzzi's,steam baths etc...Don't get me wrong,Thats stuff is nice but unnecessary. The main thing is the weights ...There's a few hardcore bodybuilders in this gym too.

$25 a month. It's about 3 blocks up the street from where I work. I go up on my lunch break & get in 45-50 min. workout. I like the convenience.

Paid $235 one time fee + $12/mo. Small gym, doesn't have certain equipment I'd like to use (squat rack). But It's open 24 hrs m-f, 'till 7 on weekends. -john

I pay 12$/month. It's not the biggest in the world but its ok and there's a lot of juicers there.......

Back in Minny, I paid nothing (Powerhouse), as I had an agreement that I would wear gym gear at my PL meets in return for free training. Worked out pretty damn well, as I eventually got all of my protein and ephedra-based products free as well.

Now, in Chicago, I have to PAY for a membership, at another Powerhouse no less, and I pay around $21/mo or so since I paid everything up front. It sux to have to pay, though I have a stockpile of protein that should last me a couple of months until I start banging some GNC chick for free product. Its bound to happen.

$34 a month for L/A fitness in Miami...it sucks 'cause my friends pay a lot less since they signed up before

I wish there was a Gold's closer to my home. I'm forced to go to Fitness World, which is actually not too bad. I'm paying $21 cdn/month. That's after two years.. when you first start it's like $40/month. We got a sauna, pool, "personal trainers" lol, and lots and lots of hot chicks! There was a Gator's nearby but they changed names and are more "family" oriented now. Most the big boys left and are at the Fitness World now.

$1100 a month, but it comes with 4 bedrooms full basement 2 kitchens( 1 I added myself) and a garage called Basskiller's Hell Hole

Very seldom do I go to the Gym, only when I go on a friends pass... Plus he is tight with the owner!

I go to a gym called Family Fitness,it was a Golds Gym but the owner dropped the franchise name a few years ago.I lucked out and signed up during his special he runs every year for $185 a year,so every year my membership runs out he has the special going on.His normal price is $385 a year.

Gym prices in Sao Paulo, Brazil

In Sao Paulo, Brazil, I pay 70 US$ (!) per month.
But the gym is great with excellent equipment (all from the US,
Life Fitness, Cybex, others) and super service. It belongs to the
creme de la creme in the city.
You can get it cheaper, but then quality sucks.
The least is 50 US$ per month if you want some decent
quality.

Besides the expensive monthly fees other stuff is expensive
too since it is all imported. Supplements have astronomical
prices. 5 lbx Whey protein from Optimum Nutrition about
US$ 50-55.

German

This is all very interesting. I thought the cost of gym memberships might be higher in the US. I think we are ripped off here. New members have to pay about US$35 a month. Considering the cost of living in NZ is generally lower than in the USA (except for supplements) I would have thought the costs of gym memberships would reflect this.

In Barcelona. 6500 pts/month that will be 35u$/month. 10.000 pts. just for sign up (around 54 bucks) Open from 7 am 'til 11:30pm. 3 floors.
It has lots of shit I never use: swimmig pool (semi-olimpic), pool for aerobic in water (aqua gym), hidro massage, turco (i don't know how to say this in english) 2 sauna (both sex), 2 big aerobic rooms (steps, body-pump, streching, tbc...), spinning, huge cardio section... The machines are not the best but they're quite good. It worth every "peseta". I think the price is good because it´s not a private gym but the regional goverment owns it. It's full of old people so there`s no possible distraction.

I thought gyms in the USA will be much more expensive.

I pay 20$ a YEAR!!!!!

Everything you need... Dumbbells up to 120 lbs, dip rack, chin bar, lots of free weights.....
Only negative: no women, just freaks.....

/Komo

$7 a month, Bally's is great for renewal dues, I joined in 97 and paid 50 a month for the first 18 months, ever since then its been about 7, cant beat that.

i didnt know you had to pay so much for gym memberships..
i pay $250 AUS year which is like $140 US and its a good gym

73 fucking Euros a month here in Germany! (So 60 something US) It's because I'm only here for a short time and didn't sign up for the yearly membership which is around 40ish US a month.

Back in Canada my University gym is free, very well equipped, within walking distance, and filled with hot bitches who all speak English. Oh how I miss it. :google: Oh yeah we also re-rack the weights properly in Canada, unlike in Germany where you just leave weights all over the damn place.

the 2 recent gyms I have worked at

125 a month and 99 a month but the were health clubs not gyms

I am in Germany and pay 49 Euro a month to go to my gym, there is 20 something of them all over Germany and I can go to any one of them while traveling, Its much cheaper than the states. It is the comparison of a Bally's without a pool or jacuzzi just sauna, tanning, massage, etc etc.

My current gym charged $399 for this year. They might give me a better price to renew. My last gym had $250 a year.

Well coz i'm a student i paid £72 for 6 months membership my gyms not big or state of the art but its got all you need really. £12 a month for unlimited use is very good and i'm near Manchester, England

Nothing, my apartments I live at have a great workout room! Also, my roomate works for 24HR Fitness and hooked me up with a free membership for all the clubs. It's good to have friends :P

Nothing...the gym pays me to workout because I make it look good!

Ok, seriously $22 per month.

I pay around $20 for a local gym. It is a good gym with about 2500 members. Been there for about 4 years.

$125 a year, plus tax

I went down to Texas on vacation and was totally pissed because they wanted over $50 a month while I was there.

I pay fuckin 50 dollars a month which come out to be 600 dollars a year. fuckin exspensive but I like the gym 2 floors sauna all the equipment you need.

40 a month at Gold's here in Redondo Beach, CA

It's 24/7, good atmosphere, people are pretty normal, and I can even look out the window and see the ocean.

Worked out at 24hr fitness a few years ago. They had those damn announcements coming over the loudspeakers every 10 minutes: "THE SUPPLEMENT OF THE MONTH IS B-C-A-A's. PLEASE ASK ONE OF YOUR CERTIFIED FITNESS TRAINERS ABOUT THEM." --- Drove me fuckin nuts !!!

Vancouver, BC, Canada

I'm in Vancouver, BC, Canada, I pay $30/month (Canadian), which is about $20 US/month. I didn't pay an initiation fee, been there for about 2.5 years.

hell bro i'm payin 53.00 a month for my membership, plus i had to put 200.00 down payment. but i do alot of traveling w/ my job so i can go to any of their gyms in the US w/ my mebership... plus they are open here 24hrs a day which is nice as well

I'm not aloud to say how much i pay for gym fee's.When i first joined the local gym i was buying every 3 month, then they came up with this one time fee and a life time due. Then the gym changed hands and they still honored my old membership arrangement. Then they decided to raise prices.Well let me tell you that i was sick because my dues went up like 60%.Me and 2 others decided to take them to small claims court.....long and short is that they decided to settle out of court, and we had to sign a confidential agreement,Which if a break it i owe $5,000.So Mom's the word.Moral of the story is if you think your right more than likely you are.And small claims court really works.:basket:

I pay exactly 0 dollars and 0 cents HAHAHAHAHAHAHA oh but i have to put in at least one shift ( i work there )

:p

b.A.

Damn I don't pay shit. Technically I don't because I workout at school but I do have to pay for college so it evens out. Fuckin tuition is breakin' me!!!!fuckers

Fatchops
