How many years have you been into bodybuilding?

I was weighing in at 294lbs (fat) and was sick of being the fat guy. I lost 110lbs in 10 months then started lifting to gain lean mass. Been at it for 10 years now. I've never been happier or more confident in my life.

Been working out 23 years. I started when I was a teenager because my mom, who was divorced, single and dating at the time kept pointing out muscular guys to me and said to me (I was a skinny kid at the time), "see, if you lift weights you can look like that!". Parents don't always realize the power that they have. So I got one of those Sears weight sets, you know, the ones with plaster inside the plastic "plates" and started lifting. The kid upstairs, who was about 3 years older than me and hit puberty first, started ligting and got an impressive physique, so I guess I was kind of competing with him, or trying to be like him.

I wonder how many people here started working out because one parent or the other told us we were too skinny?

I had the same problem as anal_itch....I was a fat kid..coming from an "ethnic" background, my mother fed and fed me when i was young...i was a lard ass...at 16 i just got fed up with it...and it wasnt because i was made fun of school...i was the popular fat kid...but because my cousins friend left his FLEX mag at my house...I started looking at it...I WAS HOOKED...ever since then i have had the BB bug.

Yeah but trust me...at 16, I didnt know how to train/eat/ or how to take supplements (legal) so i yo-yo'd most of my teen years...not up untill a couple or more years back is when the "wisdom" starting sinking in..you now how we were when we are kids..we get preached to...and we ignored...

10 year's, been through 2 marriage's, and the gym is always there!!!!!

Ive been lifting about two years religiously and about 4 on and off. I started cuz I caught an asswiping from three bigger guys at the same time..Since then I said I want to get as strong as I can....Progress Is what keeps me motivated. Everytime I hit a new max or whatever It pushes me to the next step.

you sound like that comicbook ad when the big dude gets sand kicked in his face.

Over 20...Started in High School trying to gain weight so I could wrestle in the 95 lb weight class (only weighed 89 lbs!) Loved Arnold but was inspired by "The Giant Killer" Danny Padilla in 1979 to start body building. Him and Mohamed Makkawy showed that little guys could mix it up with the big boys...I've been hooked ever since.

Started when I was 15 and I am 36 now so thats 21 years. I started because I was too skinny. I was really into cycling and used to ride about 100-200 miles a week so that didnt help me much! Got into lifting and went from 145 lbs at 6' tall to 185 lbs at 6' tall by graduation of high school. Now weigh around 230 lbs.

Oh man.....let me think here, its been over 34 yrs.my how time flies.
took almost everything that came out, mistakes were made, but back then that was how you learned, no internet back then so we just talked to the ones that looked like they knew the sport!

For yrs i was lead to believe the info in the mag was golden.most was just useless advertisment.

i've used both winstrol and dianabol before. nothing now tho.

What are your stats?

Age
Weight
Height
etc

I prefer to think of it as different priorities. I like to lift. I have no interest in getting back to sub 10% BF. I wouldn't enjoy the process nor would I enjoy the result as much as the benefits of carrying the extra weight. On top of that I'd have to work biceps.

This old guy is just a posting fool....Wonder whats the reason for his madness because its starting to bug me....Maybe someone buy him a life or quit feeding him....gessss iss

Amen to that. You can walk away from the gym but you can never leave it once you've gotten into lifting.

50 years.
Yes Ozz .... I did not stutter. LOL

Started at 12 with a mail order course. Jowett.
Hated being skinny and bullied.
Built racks out of old 2 x 4's and trained in the basement.
Was given a 110 lb set from an outift in LA.

Few people had any idea about proper training and nutrition. Mixed brewer's yeast with orange pop to gain weight. And ate a lot of Knox's Gelatin.

Biggest gain was around 18 when I did dbol from a Dr. Put on 20 pounds. He gave me a small container with the magic pills inside. I can't even remember how long I took them. LOL

I've probably seen and/or done every routine over the years. Always came back to the basics.

Been in gyms from coast to coast and always held my own, even in LA and Cherry Hill, NJ. Owned and ran my own gym. Seen and talked to a lot of stars from the old Reford Theater to Columbus, Ohio.

Watched the steroid scene go from 6 mg of dbol a day (shocking and dangerous!), to injections (OMG!), and to the stacks of aas/insulin/hgh and other substances today.

Watched Mr. America and Universe titles go to guys at and under 200 lbs ... to the freaks of today.

Still smile at my "newbie" days here and being dumped on for not having enough k to have informed opinions.

Still learning today as I travel a bit down the dangerous aas road. :)
