How long do you have to lift start developing cns strength?

I see some skinny kids at my gym repping what I max for squats. They're scrawny, but they're strong. How long does it take to build up CNS strength?

Very vague questions that is individual. Diet, training style, biomechanices ALL PLAY A ROLE.

I suggest working a powerlifting based scheme if you want to build up strength. 5x5 will FINALLY be a routine I recommend here. Also a Westside hybrid. I put up alot of threads on Need To Build Muscle Inc. for this.

You have to know HOW to lift, how everything works together to perform a lift.

It is like saying...how long before I can develop the perfect jump shot...

The reason I ask is because I'm currently still cutting weight. I have been getting weaker in all lifts except maybe deadlift. My bench press, overhead press and squat have suffered, but my deadlift has been getting stronger even though I weigh less now than I did a few months ago.

Does CNS strength develop for some areas and not others? I just don't understand why my squat is so hard to improve or even maintain and deadlift just goes up.

It's normal to lose a little when you're cutting. Another factor could be cns fatigue. If you haven't changed your rep range in a while you could be a little burnt out. Varying reps and/or exercises every so often gives you needed stimulus.

Quite a few people can lose weight and keep or gain on their deadlift, yet they will suffer greatly on their pressing and squatting. Leverage is a huge issue.

I haven't changed up my rep range. I'm still doing them in 5 rep ranges.

I've been having light days lately though. I squat twice a week and dl twice a week. One day is heavy one day is light. For light days I work in 10 rep ranges, with lighter weight. Does that help me?

what are your lifts?
for most people, deadlift has the most potential... which in your case it may have or still is behind where it proportionaly belongs behind your squat...

deadlift I do 325 for 1 rep. Squats I did 255 for 2 reps, not sure what the 1 rep max is.

Bench I used to do 225x5, 265x1. Now it's 235x1.
