OU!!

IN!

I totally need a make up over haul - I dislike everything I have I want to start from scratch. I just haven't made the time to do this. BOO!

I've given up the sun bathing and tanning so I'm pale for me but I also have olive skin :worried: I will end up getting some color being that it's nearly summer and I like to play outside.

Daily:

Cover up those eye circles, they're not terribly dark but they show when I'm pale and worse when I'm tired.

Navy, Pewter or Black liner

Curl lashes

Translucent power if necessary

lip balm or gloss

sometimes lip liner

If it's more formal I'll add blush and mascara.

Ok... Not too bad... Simple but effective..

Olive skin... I'm guessing dark eyes or honey caramel coloured eyes??

If so, Try some soft coral colours, Add a dark blue liner instead of the black when you go out... A deep purple would work wonders on you too... I'll find the pics of the colours I want you to try tmw, Just so you get an idea of what I'm saying...

Nars has a great cream eyeshadow for everyday, Called THEBES

Orgasm (I know love the name too) Blush from Nars is amazing on olive, Pale and dark skins.... No matter how tired I am, Or how crappy I'm feeling I brush on that blush and BAM!! Fresh faced, Ready to head out! This blush you can wear everyday, Please do, The pigment with nars is very strong, So only a little is needed... Dab on with a big brush and slowly sweep on...

Soft pink lips... I can see on you... I have an image of you, So trust me...

Coral lips... Deeper colours for more of a formal evening... One day keep the eyes simple and play up the lips... Have smoky sexy eyes with lots of liner in the inner bottom rim.... Soft nude lips...

You get my point...

Mascara... Good.... Always wear a touch or more of that... Laura Mercier do a great eye base... In different colours... They stay on all day!! Matte easy to use... Brightens up the eye... It doesn't crease all day, I wear it everyday...

I'll post all these colours for you tmw... we can get abit more creative... Yes we can vel honey!

Wow! Thank you Ilk

I have to say I was born with problem skin. Right now I use just the cleanser (of the three part system) from proactiv and it seems to keep pimples from popping up. I also use Metrogel and retin-A at night. I also use a moisterizer with sunblock during the day (I'm looking for an alternative to the Lubriderm brand i use because it is starting to *sting*-not sure if that is because of a new aversion to it's fragrence or not). At night, after the cream application, I use loads of gel baby oil and vaseline as a moisterizer. :worried:

I had scheduled a series of Photoderm and Microdermabrasion treatments for last fall, but some money emergencies came up and I won't be able to start these until the end of summer. I had posted seeking information regarding the Obagi System because I thought it was a more economical (temporary) treatment until I can get the photoderm, however Boston posted of her personal experience with this system and I've decided I wouldn't pursue it.

The only make up I wear is Revlon's Love Pat Moisterizing Powder: It's the only thing which doesn't seem to clog my (enlarged :worried: pores), but it still empathasizes them *Ugh*; and Great Lash Mascara in blackest black: The only mascara I've ever used-I love it and will never change-lol. My eyes are green and my skin is a medium tone with ruddy undertones (?).

Thank you again, Ilk, for your generous offer of advice

wow great stuff!

Green eyes-blue on the outer iris, green through most and speckles of hazel around the pupil

I used to do a lot of corals and purple...

I've really been slacking in the make up dept lately :worried:

Thanks Ilk!
:artist:

ps. don't worry I totally trust you

Whatever I can do, as fast as possible? :)

Now that it is summer/hot out ... Here is my "routine"

1) face moisturizer as soon as I am out of the shower
2) little MAC concealer under eyes/around eyes/nose - to even out color
3) MAC bronzer (Refined Golden)
4) MAC Fluidline (I think) for eye liner - it's the cream that I apply with a thin brush, in a dark brown
5) MAC mascara - cannot leave without this on, my eyelashes are blonde

Will sometimes apply lipgloss/stick .... but that is gone within an hour and I always forget to reapply. Apparently, 64 kindergateners don't care about lip color. :) Lip colors I use are typically in the plum family. I always struggle with finding a good lip color. I want a color that is noticeable, but pretty natural - if that makes sense. I am not a "red" person or any other color that screams at you ... but I also don't like the skin-tone colors that just fade away into your face.

Also have some MAC blush, Nars Orgasm (love it!) and Tarte gel stick blush. I use them occassionally, but less so in the summer. Now that I am tan though, I will look to drop the bronzer and just wear a good blush that does not rub off (which I find that most blush does on me).

That is it. Takes about 5 minutes. :) Also, if it helps, I am a blue eyed bonde with light-medium skin (pale with no sun, but I tan easily and can get quite dark)

NO! To baby oil!!!!!

Ok... I don't like Proactiv... Way too much.. I don't know anyone who has been fully treated on that skincare... I know alot of people who have troubled skin... You know what works... Dr. Haushaka

I suffered from severe acne for 11 years, I never showed my face to anyone.. I had inches of makeup on to cover it... Finally I went on to Roaccutane for 6 months... Cleared everything..

Dr.Haushaka is the best skincare products for problem skin... It takes time for your skin to react to it, But its all organic, abit smelly but its fine, gentle...

there is a certain way to apply it to skin, No rubbing, Scrubbing... Gentle massage movements...

http://www.drhauschka.com/holistic-...e+Care+Kit,+Oily+-+For+oily+or+blemished+skin

Application details
http://www.drhauschka.com/holistic-treatments/treatment-descriptions/

This is great to try...

Abit of background info on Hauschka
http://www.drhauschka.com/about/our-approach/

NO more oil on face... DO not apply anything n your skin at night... Let it breath.. Too much is happening to your skin...

Keep it simple... This is the only range I use, My skin is spot free...

Cleanse, Moisturise, OILFREE please... Revlon powder... Switch to Laura Mercier powder... When you can...

Ok missy! Stay lovely!!

OK Madame!

I will print this out, study and do some shopping!
I so needed this...
I don't know how to thank you.

YAY!!!
I'm so happy.
New toys..

Oh one quick question concealor/light foundation - suggestions?
Colors? I can never find the right one the first time
Need a pic?

I was looking at that Armani Silk you had once mentioned too.

I'll go with whatever you suggest, my skin's normal but prone to dry patches and if it's really hot I get that little oily t thing going on but powder always fixes that.

A few months ago I bought that highlighter from YSL and the color was so bad on me.

And thank you again.

I'm like giddy

Right, NO to YSL "concealer" Worst product ever... I don't know what people like about it....

Best concealer I wear and use in people is...

http://www.lauramercier.com/products/flawless_face/products/concealers/secret_camouflage/

OMG amazing... You would either be SC-1 (I use that one for under eyes and around nose) Or you'll be SC-2.. SC-3 would be good for olive skins.. Meaning if you get tanned then great... But under eyes SC-3 can get abit yellow... We don't want that...

SC-1 or SC-2

Best concealer Velvett...

Foundation... Armani is amazing... But only wear it on special occasions... I would want you to buy the Laura Mercier Oil-free foundation, I have some dry patches but oily too... This one smoothes skin, Looks natural, Only apply a little... You don't need alot...

http://www.lauramercier.com/products/flawless_face/products/foundation/oil_free_foundation/

Colours... Blush Ivory, Maybe Sunny Beige... Ask them to try abit on your cheek... Go outside and have a look in the daylight... Mercier's colours can be tricky sometimes... I can't give you the exact colour without seeing your exact skintone... But they'll sort it out for you...

Secret Finish... OH MY! This product is amazing... EVERY woman should have this in their bag... I have 3/4! A little pea size... Mix softly with your fingers... Press onto skin... Brightens, Freshens the face... Oh I love it!

http://www.lauramercier.com/products/flawless_face/products/secret_finish/secret_finish/

Its so exciting!

We went to Macy's... I couldn't find Nars anywhere! I was like a little girl walking into Dillards, Nordstorms asking.. Do you have nars.. Please say yes! NOPE... the whole mall didn't stock it.. I was so upset!

Anyway... Makeup is exciting, Play around with it... Remember if you don't like it, You can always take it off...

Pic.... Was so I can see what you're doing right or wrong... But you don't have to... Play with colours.... Have fun!!!

Routine is great... Good products... Orgasm Blush!!!!!! Well done...

Armani do a liquid blush... It lasts ALL day! Great stuff, easy to apply too...
I've tried it once and was pretty impressive.... Cheek stains works really well too... Nars does one called Pussycat... Modesty is a purple..ish colour.. Great on the lips...

the best lip colour is with Nars...
http://www.narscosmetics.com/acb/stores/1/Velvet-Matte-Lip-Pencil-C26_category_7.aspx

Damned is nice colour... One sweep on the bottom lip and blend in with your finger so the colour isn't too strong... Amazing, Non drying too... Matte and very smooth...

Also lip gloss stains are great too..
http://www.narscosmetics.com/acb/stores/1/Lip-Stain-Gloss-C12_category_7.aspx

Daredevil is great and sayonara... Blue based pink...

Eyes... Blue eyes can wear most colours... Smoky browns, Soft pinks would be great, Golds, Warm colours... Dark dark blue would look great as a liner

http://www.narscosmetics.com/acb/stores/1/Single-Eyeshadow-C24_category_1.aspx

China Blue, Ondine, Nepal, Strada... Great colours...

OOOO, great products. :) YAY. I love makeup shopping. :) You are da best.

I would like a good moisturizer or something that would minimize the laugh lines I have around my eyes (crows feet?) and the wrinkle I have on my forehead that comes from me scrunching up my brow when I am concentrating. In a price range that does not require me selling my baby to buy it, please. ;)

How about facial treatments?

From store bought to dermatologist/plastic surgeon?

Ok... You can either do facials at home...

WITH.. Dr.Haushkca
http://www.drhauschka.com/holistic-products/face-care/masks.aspx

FIRMING MASK, REJUVENTING MASK... Would be good for you.. The CLEANSING MASK is good too but it has Lecithin in it...

The other two have no Soybean or lecithin in it... Have a look at the ingredients on the right...

OR..

I love the Crystal Clear Facials... Oxygen Facials and the microdermabrasion ones too...

Oxygen facial will be great for you... Great to even out skintone...
Eliminates redness..

http://www.oxygenexperience.com/facelift/

Bliss spa's do it too.. Triple oxygen facials..
http://www.blissworld.com/category/spa.do

This product below in the link.. Was Number 1 in the UK... It sold out in 4days.. If you want to do it yourself this is it...
http://www.blissworld.com/product/code/BLISS-254.do?showPrevNext=false

I looked at the ingredients.. It has hydrolzed soy protein...????

Not sure if you can use it now!! Damn.....

Plastic Surgeon... You don't need that...

For your crows feet.. Strivectin is great... My friends use's this... Its made quite a big difference...
http://www.strivectin.com/sd/strivectin-eye-cream.php

Face mositurizer...
Many products out there... depending on how much you wanna pay..

Dr.Sebagh is great.. Face creams start from $130
N.V Perricone... I think the same... or less

This is great...
http://www.elemis.com/SkinCare/ProductDetails.aspx?pid=52

I'd def reccommend that! It really does what it says...

Great stuff! Let me know whats in your price range and I'll reccommend something more towards that..

You know DS... A little botox is harmless... Just in between the brows and around eyes... Just enough to soften the lines but still looking natural...

I keep considering getting Botox on my forehead. Maybe one day. :) I want to get Lasix first. :) Been wearing glasses for about 25 years and contacts for about 20 years. Quite tired of them.

I am drooling with this thread!!1
Great help Ilk!!!
Daisy...I had botox on forehead due to so much squinting from contacts...
t was great!!! I need to do it again!

I'm so boring with the make-up I wear.....

Everyday is pretty much the same:

Wake up, use cucumber facewipe on my face, Bodyshop Hemp facecream, No 7 Radiant Glow foundation (only a little bit needed), L'Oreal Touche Magique under my eyes, concealer if needed, bit of bronzer, then normally green eyeshadow finished off with Lancome Mascara. I've normally got about three Juicy Tubes in my bag, but nearly always forget to put them on.

I change the colour of my eyeshadow depending on what I'm wearing, but as I said I normally wear green / lime green / turquiosey colours. I curl my eyelashes and wear black/brown mascara, but never try eyeliner because I'm crap with it!!

When I get home in the evening, I take my make up off with the cucumber wipes again, then jump in the shower. I wear E45 lip balm to bed, and use a No 7 night cream on my face.

I'm so boring!! My night time look tends to be the same as above, but with the eyeshadow darker than in the day!! One day I'll learn to do something interesting and different with my eyes :)

Help me my dear Ilk :) missing chatting to you, I've been so busy moving into the new house, haven't had five minutes on the computer!! Will send you a pm in a little bit

OMG Ilk! This is amazing!
Do me! Do me! :)

I have problem skin too, but it's usually kept under control by prescription Differin gel. I just use a gentle cleanser: Johnson & Johnson and clinique's moisturizing gel. I also have really sensitive skin, and a lot of stuff makes me red.....this is better when I'm tan though.

I'm kind of clueless with makeup. I don't like to wear a lot....I'm pretty natural and low maintenance when it comes to makeup.
I use clinique clarifying makeup powder in neutral all over my face.
Covergirl perfect point eyeliner in espresso- line on the upper lids.
Sometimes I use a little shadow on the outer part of the lids- a shimmery pink
Mascara- right now I'm using some shitty almay (hate it) in dark brown
A lil bronzer or pink blush on the cheeks
I hate lipstick, but usually a little gloss in the lips

I have dark brown eyes...short lashes, which I hate
sort of olive skin
blonde hair(if that matters)

Fix me ILK!!!!!

Yeah do it, its great, You only have to do it like 3 times a year..

Or less... Depending on how intense the lines are... I'd reccommend looking into that DS...

Hey girlie! Well... If you don't wanna spend too much money on makeup, Bourjois is good with eye colours... Try A deep blue eye shadow, Wet the brush and slowly but carefully use it as an eye liner... Practice makes perfect!

Purples, Soft coral tones, Deep dark green would look fab too...
Mac colours are around 9 pounds... Great selections...

Skincare stuff... How are you finding the no7 cream? Whats your skintype?

Ok.... Stop the clinique stuff.... I won't go into it, Just useless stuff...

What you need to buy is Dr.Brandt
http://www.drbrandtskincare.com/products.php?ck=3

You need...
Poreless Cleanser and toner

Poreless moisture, Once or twice a week the Pore effect

Great for problem skin, Has tea tree in it too, Smells divine! Just an amazing range... You'll see results in a day with this stuff.. Its also great to reduce redness... Great for blemishes... Oh I love it all...

Heres a little about him...
http://www.drbrandtskincare.com/about-skincare.php

He's also a Doctor too.. He treated people with skin problems and helped people so much, He decided to share his products with everyone...

This product is in a store in London called Spacenk... This shop has various skincare, Makeup products in it... This stuff is no.1 out of all the products..

Damn well it better be! The Poreless moisture really gives a beautiful sheen to the skin, Oil-free yet still hydrating....

Makeup... If you like your foundation, Stick to it, Make sure its oil-free first...
Always use blush, I find that blush really lightens up the face and gives you that happy look...

You've read that I love nars... The lipglosses are so amazing, Soft, Not sticky, Long lasting and a pleasure to take out of your bag...

When you wanna spend some money on makeup, Let me know, I'll give you a list of nars essential products!

Again, Try a little deeper colour. Dark eyes are great, Soft olive green would look fab, Use a nice light base blend a little colour into the outer sockets like how you do...

Pink is nice... But you can do better than that, peachy colours, Soft lilacs,
http://www.narscosmetics.com/acb/stores/1/Single-Eyeshadow-C24_category_1.aspx

Nepal, Faith, Cyprus, Fugi, Himayalas, Heart of glass..

All these and more will look great... Then you can get deeper and stronger once you adapt to it...

Your first priority is the skincare...

To be honest, I think I'm lucky with my skin anyway... it just seems to always stay soft! I don't get many spots at all, and if I do they tend to be on my chin, but this is quite rare. My skin is just in the middle, not oily but not dry, maybe it can be a tiny bit oily in the middle of my forehead but nothing major really. The No 7 one is really light so I quite like that, but I don't really know if it does anything!!

I've got a few Mac ones already - a really shimmery gold one and an emeraldy green one are the ones I tend to use. I've never really tried purple, that might be the next one for me to try :) I've got really pale blue eyes, but they're quite bright too . . . bright pale blue, if that makes sense. I like green on me, but then I get bored with anything if I wear it too much. I've got dark brown loose curly hair, and I always think bright eyeshadow looks nice on me . . . but who knows haha!

The only bit of my face that bothers me is under my eyes, because I do sometimes feel like there is quite a shadow there. Everyone recommends the Touche Eclat stuff from YSL but I've never tried it, any opinion on this? What would you recommend? Ooh I like having a make up person to talk to hehe!! You're awesome!

Wow! Thanks so much Ilk!

I'm going to try the stuff you reccomend.
What do you suggest for mascara? I need something that gives me more length and fullness to my lashes, but doesn't clump....and what about the color?

I love people that have this talent!

Don't waste your money on that YSL crap... They're overrated it and it looks dry on the skin, Its obvious thats been applied to the skin too... What you should get is Laura Mercier
http://www.lauramercier.com/products/flawless_face/products/concealers/secret_camouflage/

Amazing stuff... You know the kind of people work on, When its early morning, Or just to freshen up this just makes them lighten up and cover up! Great stuff...

Try the Purple, Nars has one called SANTORINI, Check it out, Spacenk stocks it... Selfridges too... It looks really dark and its really deep... But don't be scared... Wet a liner brush and apply it as a liner, Not too thin or thick, Just enough so you can see the effect...

Try it! Remember its only makeup...

Hope all the house stuff is going well...

I have the one for you...

STAR LASH. Armani cosmetics...

Amazing, Doesn't clog, Adds fullness, Length and the best part of it is that it actually curls the lashes too.... I've been doing this for a long time and never seen a mascara that curls the lashes without the lash curler...

ALso they do glitter mascars too, Great top coat for an occasion or party time...

http://www.giorgioarmanibeauty-usa.com/_us/_en/cosmetics/index_eye_mascara.htm

Star lash is towards the bottom, Glitter mascara is the first one shown...

AMAZING, Thats really all I can say!

I did it :)

Today I wore a spring green kinda colour on my eyes, and used a darker green as eyeliner. I felt so pretty all day hehe, kept looking in the mirror at my eyes.

Yay go me!

Thank youuuuuuuuuuu

You know what I look like...do me!!

I need some new ideas. I am pretty damn plain Jane all the time.

I would suggest some soft pinks for daytime... Corals, Deep burgundy will really pop your eyes right out, Plus that colour is great for evening too, Build up the colour and blend til its really smoky!

Peacock colour eyeliner... Inside the rim.... Looks amazing.

Keep it simple, You don't need much on your face, Add some blush and a raspberry gloss....

Mascara and add a little shimmer to your cheekbones, If you don't wanna spend too much on highlighters, And some are usually way too glittery looks tacky... Something smooth and silky looking...

AWWWWWWWWWW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm smiling right now... Thats what I want from everyone... Be happy, Feel pretty and play... Do the purple soon too... Go Shu Umeura when you can they have fab colours too...

So glad you tried the green!!!!!!

TIP: If you don't want to spend too much on highlighters etc.. Most useful product is Vaseline, Yes Vaseline. Use it on your eyes as a slight gloss, On your eyelashes as mascara (If you want a natural, natural day) Great moisturizer for your lashes too. Softly dab it on cheekbones for that healthy dewy look, As you all know its a great gloss... Multi-Purpose product..

HAVE FUN.... BE HAPPY AND FEEL CONFIDENT AT ALL TIMES....

Ilk!

Did some shopping.

LM - warm ivory- oil free foundation, primer and sc-1 camo (I totally for forgot the secret)
Nars - orgasm blush, manon eyeliner, bysance duo shadow, maldives multiple
YSL - Effet Faux Cils mascara - blk

I have more gloss in more colors than any one person should have and I have all the colors that you suggested - still tempted to get more... :worried:

So far I only have the LM products (I ordered the rest - two + hour drive to the nearest Nars) all of which I am really happy with so far.

Yeah!!!!!!!!!!!!

Bysance is amazing! Manon eyeliner - A little tip, If you want it deeper, Warm it up, Either hot blow dryer, Above a burning candle, For 3 seconds, It deepens the colour! Its amazing....

You will love everything you brought! Amazing....

Orgasm blush is great over the eyes too, Dust a little over with your blusher brush... Remember only a little of the LM foundation...

Great colour... I wear warm ivory too!!

Long drive girl! I'm so happy you brought the best makeup!

With the YSL mascara... Don't pump the wand in and out... It'll dry it out, If theres alot of excess liquid on the wand, Dab it on some tissue!

Have fun, And let me know how it goes!!!!

I ordered the Armani mascara today. I'll let you know how I like it!

You'll love it!!!!!

You'll be surprised with the effect! Don't curl your lashes before application of that mascara, Watch what it does! Remember the zig zag motion of applying mascara.. start at the top rim and zig zag your way up... with straight forward strokes too...

HAVE FUN!! Let me know!!

Mine is so close to finishing...!

OH ILK!!!!!!

Everything has come...
The eyeshadow it's dramatic without being too colorful - MY GOD you were not kidding about the pigment and the blush - the color is perfect.

Multiples/Maldives - you must have read my mind - that is right up my alley.

The eyeliner just goes right on, no dragging and the color is perfect.

I was ecstatic about the light foundation because of a daily causal basis it evens out everything but looks natural (i use my finger and a wedge to apply) but the combo with the secret camo - it's like creamy smooth it covers everything (that is going to be awesome for those spot months - and migraine weeks).

I don't even know where to begin - I want to buy more more more they are so lovely!!!

I even love the Nars packaging... it's like rubbery velvet (HAHAHAHA!)

The mascara has a scent to it and it's lovely as well, I have it on right now and I'm not all itchy (SUCCESS!)

Come here woman

OK I gotta get in here - this is awesome Ilk! I'm guilty of buying stuff from everywhere from the grocery store to the various makeup counters at the mall because I never really like the colors I have. Lately I'm on a kick w/ the burgundy shades --- my coloring - Shadow has seen me, both w/ the protan & w/o - I'm blonde (w/ chemical help to deal w/ the age-related roots), blue eyes, faie-skinned (think Swede / German). My skin tends to be combination skin but more on the oily side -I personally hate moisturizers because it makes me feel greasy. I have very little in the way of wrinkles thanks to the lifetime of oily skin, however I've got some mega annoying forehead lines - did botox in late 2005 but need to find a new doc here in CA after moving.

My routine is essentially:
- wake up - usually have the eye bags - its been a weird year and wild sleep schedules and it shows.
- wash face w/ whatever Neutrogena stuff
- one of my various skin-rejuvenation / eye bag moisturizer thingies under the eyes
My eyes are smallish, short eyelashes and my eyebrows sort of run out about 2/3 of the way so I put my efforts into making this all more stand-out -
- eyeliner first - could be anything from khaki green / olive, blue, purple shades, burgundy
- eye shadow - again matching the eyeliner but w/ a littler shade for the upper part under the brow, darker over the lid, something in the crease
- eyebrow pencil - try to get a full brow made (yea I gotta draw in alot of it) but not too dark
- mascara - black or brown/black
- a light foundation - again this is anything from Clinique to Maybelline - lately I've been traveling ALOT so I go w/ whatever I can find in a small container, use a sponge to apply primarily under eye, across nose, cheeks, etc to even out- but very light because my skin gets oilly over the course of the day, esp if I'm inside all day.
- Powder blush usually in the rose palette.
- chap stick :)

If I dont' get out in the sun I can get pretty damn pale which looks really bad. I try to get into a tanning bed at least 1x/week to keep a base. I suspect I'll be relying on that more than the sun this summer because the Bay Area is not what you call "warm".

I tend to put my efforts on my eyes because they disappear. I like a variety of colors - sometimes just to be obnoxious when I'm going out - but for work I'm liking the burgundy shades a bit more - more natural but not washed out.

Hey Ilk! Can you recommend a self-tanner? I've seen those new ones with the moisterizer and tanner combined, are these any good? Thanks again, Ilk

Uh Huh!!!! I know... The packaging the quality is what does it for me... Eyeshadows are amazing... LOVE THEM!!! I wore SANTORINI last night really smoky.... Lovely! Yes the packaging is very velvetty!!!!

Maldives is great... Eyes lips and cheeks remember... Also you can use it as a blush... THEN brush a softly with the orgasm on top... Looks amazing...

Foundation I know... GREAT GREAT GREAT!!!!!!!!!!!

Eyeliner... Soft, easy application.... Full of colour...

The mascara has roseberry in it... Which kills bacteria... SO it lasts alot longer and you know its always clean inside... Great for sensitive eyes too!

Well... I'm glad you like it all! Thankyou for trusting me...

Whenever you want to be more creative with colour or with nars... LET ME KNOW!!!!

Ok...

EYES: Great colours, I would've suggested those colours.. Add a little coral too... Like BOHEMIAN GOLD, Its alot nicer than the picture.. Scroll down to the bottom..
http://www.narscosmetics.com/acb/stores/1/Duo-Eyeshadow-C23_category_2.aspx

Use the eyeliner above deep blue liner would be great like MOON RIVER
http://www.narscosmetics.com/acb/stores/1/Liquid-Eyeliner-C49_category_7.aspx

These liquid eyeliners are also mascaras!

Eyebrows... DO what you do, I like that you don't have it too dark, I can't stand that.... ALways even out the eye area with concealer or foundation, Clinique foundations are too Pink and Grey... They don't have a great undertone.. Can also tend to make the skin more oily...

I have oily skin... I use a little of the laura mercier oil-free foundation that I suggested Velvett... It keeps the skin matte and even throughout the day... WOuld be great for shows and long hours.....

Skincare... Hmm... Well, I want you to use good stuff.... Dr.Brandt is great!! It tightens pores and reduces oil in the skin...

PORELESS MOISTURE Moisturizer AND PORELESS CLEANSER
http://www.drbrandtskincare.com/view.php?f_cat=product+type:+moisturizers

http://www.drbrandtskincare.com/product.php?f_cat=product+type:+cleansers+/toners&pk=7

If you don't wanna use too much on the skin, Those 2 products would be enough...

They have tea tree in the ingredients too, Smells divine!!!

Rosy Blush Is good.... Nice flushed effect! GREAT...

Abit of raspberry on the lips would really make your eyes pop...

STELLA, RISKY BUSINESS, FRISKY SUMMER...
http://www.narscosmetics.com/acb/stores/1/Lip-Gloss-C11_category_7.aspx

Good skincare is essential... You would'nt drink poorly made protein shake would you....? No.... Your skin needs to be feeding on good ingredients, If not it'll look dull and grey... I'm sure you drink lots of water too.... GREAT!!

You need essential oils in the skin provided by the Dr.Brandt skincare... You'll be amazed how dewy and healthy the skin looks rather than looking greasy...

Your focus is skincare... Makeup is great...

Thx Ilk :) I'm amazed that it seems the best colors on me are 'non-colors' - that goes for clothes as well. The burgundies I love but they are hard to find. The skin stuff has always been an issue for me- I've spent my whole life bathing in anti-acne medication - luckily I never had anything like cystic acne or whatever that is - but I've always had acne - its much better since I passed 37 (hormones) but still always there. Oily skin all the time. When I lived in FL & was out diving all the time I was buried in sun tan lotion & moisturizer but the last couple yrs I'm not outside as much and I just get oily if I stay inside. LOL excuses - frankly I forget in the morning and I hate oily feeling. Oily skin literally comes out in my contact lenses.

So I'll definitely check that stuff out this weekend (my poor credit card is taking a beating from this move to CA...)

Check out the skincare when you can... But I promise you it will improve your skin so much... I've had acne from the age of 10... I was on Dianette (contraceptive pills, Really good for skin) at 11... Boils on my face, Back everywhere... Red huge blemishes on my whole face for years... Finally I went on Roaccutane for 6 months, Everything went away... If that pill hadn't been available, I know for sure I wouldn't be living right now...

SO, Bascially I've been there with the skincare stuff, Spent silly money on them for years.... The only thing that works for me is Dr, Hauscaka Never use a harsh exfoliating scrub on your face.. Like the clinique 7 day scrub.. That just produces more oil that oil is then formed into a blemish...

Simple yet effective is either the dr.Brandt mask or This.. (you use 1 or 2 teaspoons, One or more of hot water with the teaspoon to turn it into a thick mixture) It exfoliates, Cleanses and tightens pores..
http://www.drhauschka.com/holistic-...pecially+beneficial+to+oily+or+blemished+skin

This is the other range you should look at... Don't be afraid of the moisturizer, I was like... Oil thats oil, I ain't putting oil on my face! Yes it is oil but it normalizes the skin.... AMAZING!! Only need a little....

http://www.drhauschka.com/holistic-...e+Care+Kit,+Oily+-+For+oily+or+blemished+skin

This toning lotion is something I would never forget to use
http://www.drhauschka.com/holistic-...Clarifying+Toner+-+For+oily+or+blemished+skin

Clears blackheads, Eliminates redness... God send! Great stuff!

My forehead has been breaking out lately..........and the blackhead on my nose are bugging me - too noticeable IMO!

I use tinted moisturizer instead of foundation, light blusher, sweep of bronzer, brown eyeliner topped with plum for contrast & either brownish-black or plum mascara.....that's it!

Ilk needs a beauty blog.
:)

Aww LOL!!!!!

I'd love to have a website to help people with their beauty regime... I worked for a magazine for a while... That was really fun, I'd love to have my own column.... I'll call it "Velvett Beauty Treats" (That sounds really good huh)!

It satisfies me as much as working face to face to people.. I love it!! Bring on the questions!! Have a lovely week Vel  :qt:

Hey there Ilk, long time no chat. Thanks for the message :rose:

Hope you don't mind - question for you:

Going to update the collection this weekend. Nars Orgasm is a definite but I wanted to ask about Laura Mercier. I hate foundation, just use a concealer and powder and luckily my skin is OK so I only need light coverage. Would the LM tinted moisturiser, concealer stick and the translucent powder work?

My colouring is like....well, think Dita Von Teese. Don't dress like her though, lol.

Also, while I like it while it lasts, I notice the faux cils dries out so quickly, it lasts only a month really. Would love to try the Armani but can't find it here - any other ideas?

I trust all is well in your world

Hey Merm!! Yes long time!!

LM tinted is great... Buy the oil-free one... BUT it can get abit shiny throughout the day, The oil-free foundation however is amazing, Lasts all day and keeps the skin matte.... If you want a dewy..ness on the skin tinted moisturizer is great for that...

You only need a little... Just to even out skin... Concealer,I love the camouflage.. For some reason the girls who work at LM are trained to not use the camourflage under eyes... ?????? I have no idea why... Believe me you can, LM herself does.. Great on the face... amazing concealer!

So, I would go for the oil-free foundation and that concealer... Colour wise prob the first or second colour in the range...

Mascara... Armani is great! But hard to find... Only online I think where you are... Or the maybelline great lash mascara is great! I used to use that alot..

Adds length and thickness... But no curl... Or Lancome Amplicils mascara...

Orgasm blush! Fab colour.... BUT this time try DESIRE blush from Nars... Its like a baby pink colour gives that beautiful health to the skin.. Desire was used on Sarah Jessica Parker on sex and the city... remember that pink flushed cheeks...?? That was the colour..

Its nice and summery too... Remember the pigment is high so only a little... Don't load it on! Happy shopping!!!!!!

Hey Beauty!!!
I am oilire than oily...LOL...
I sleep bareface....let it breathe you suggested...i do...
So...I wake up smelling like grease...LOL yuck kind of like tuna fish...Protein? I have no idea...or Oxabdrolone...
Whatever it is, it smells...
No acne, no pimples...just horrible smell and greasy all day long....T zone only...
What do you suggest??

Hey LULU!!! I've been using the Nivea gradual tan for fair skin.. ANd let me tell you how dark my legs are!!! They're so tanned and healthy looking... What I love about it is that it doesn't streak, Drys quickly smells yummy and looks so natural!!!

Try that first and then I'll suggest something more intense if you don't like it... BUT you will love it!!!

Hey girlie
Does the Nivea blend easily around your ankles and feet/toes? Thats where I always have a hard time with self tanners.

It does Boston, BUT exfoliate the area first.... Moisturize with a rich cream, so the skin around your ankles, elbows are smooth and soft..... Then when you feel its ready to apply the nivea....

GO FOR IT!! GREAT STUFF!!!!!

Right Flor.. Lets sort you out!

Oily skin...

First is it all over or just t-zone?

Oily skincan be reduced with prescription Retin A, Retin A Micro Gel, Some people still develop redness, flaking and irritation despite appropriate use of Retin A... It is a strong product...

What I will suggest for you is... Glycolic acid, a popular form of alpha hydroxy acids, Its usually known as --> (AHAs)

It can lift away excessive facial oils and I suggest yu incorporate it into your skin care regimen.... Remember, that glycolic acids, while they do help to exfoliate the skin, It plays more of a role of temporary oil reducer, and help cut through the surface oils and clean out the pores.....Thats what you need Flor.... Especially that you don't suffer from acne... This acid will even out the production of sebum...

:)

Remembered something else...

DO NOT use the application of glycolic acid at the same time as benzoyl peroxide or vitamin A/retinoid containing products.... You risk an increase in irritation from doing this.... Use them at separate times of the day.... The use of a glycolic acid cleanser would be appropriate.....

How sensitive is your skin??? the aicid is a great exfoliater but I mean it really sweeps the dead skin off and some people can get quite red from it.. But it would last maximum of 48hours...

SUNSCREEN FLOR!!!!! May I remind you for the 100th time... LOL!
In addition to following your skincare routine.. (an oil-busting skin care routine)

what to do about sunscreen? When I'm asked that question... for those especially with oily or blemish prone skin is ALL about sunscreen.... Some are too greasy, too sticky, blocks my pores...the list of reasons for which people dont use it goes on and on...

So.... This is one of the best SPF... Contains SPF30!

This is a little info on thats on the website about it
"Avert sun damage on face and body with an exquisitely light, oil-free, oil-reducing, non comedogenic and rejuvenating sunscreen that provides protection, clarity, and relief"

http://www.dermadoctor.com/product.asp?productID=823&WID={FB58AD34-8822-4759-B2A3-FE469DC7702B}
If you can Flor... Start off with this and if thats no good... the acid is the next step...

How to make your OWN makeup!!!!

I've been creating my own makeup for sometime now... I would gather up some of my old old old makeup to throw out... But didn't have the heart to! So I thought... I'm gonna make my own....

VERY EASY!!! VERY EFFECTIVE... PLEASE TRY!!!!

You will need:
1. Small old frying pan...

2. Petroleum Jelly

3. Old makeup you never use

4. Empty pots

Yes thats all you need...

Start off on low heat... Add half a teaspoon of Petroleum Jelly (Vaseline), Either crush up an old eyeshadow you will never use... Or an old lipstick... Or an old blusher...

Mix the two together... Wait for the two to combine and it should be a solid colour of the product you crushed into the pan... Use a spoon to mix it...

Have a small empty pot near you (I buy empty pots from supermarkets, Or Muji)

Then slowly pour the liquid in the small pot... Place in the fridge (without lid) It'll be done in 5/6hours... Or less sometimes..

You'll end up with a cute, Pot of colour... If you've crushed an eyeshadow you can either:

1. Use it as an eye gloss with a hint of colour.. (I do that)!

2. Use it as a base, THEN add an intense colour on top for that smoky sexy look and the base will also hold the pigment in place because of the creamy texture...

If you crushed Lipstick:

1. Simple.. Use it as a lipbalm with a hint of colour... Moisturizing and adds colour.. EASY!!!

2. If you have a really intense lip colour, and think "I can never wear that" Number 1, Er... you can...! You don't always have to wear lipstick as intense as it looks...

Rub it on your middle finger and use it as a lipstain... You still have the colour but not so BAM..! Number 2. break up the lipstick into the jelly and it will soften the colour, Then you can wear it as a lip balm.. Again very simple..

If you crushed Blusher:

1. Use it as a highlighter... Looks great

2. Use it as a lipbalm, Eyegloss etc....

No matter what you crush... Lipstick, Eyeshadow, Blusher... Remember that you can use it ANYWHERE on the face...

All the products I've made I use the eye colours on the lips... Lips on the eyes... You get my point...

Its also a great way to mix colours together... If I can't find the exact makeup I want... I know what colours will create it, So I make it myself...

The more sheer you want your homemade colours.. Add more Vaseline to it... If you want quite a solid colour but not too out there... Use half a teaspoon of vaseline...

Anyway... Have making your own makeup... Not messy Btw...

:artist: :)

Mad scientist strikes again!

Very cool! I did a purge of a lot of my stuff when I moved, but I also threw a lot of stuff in the boxes thinking "damn I bought a lot of stuff, I dont want to just throw it away..."

Yeah do it!

Its really quick too....

So cute in the litle pots too, thay last for ages!!

I got Dr.'s whatever his name is serum yesterday...The one you suggested for blackheads!!!

Hi Ilk

I wanted to thank you for the tip - Laura Mercier rocks! I was upset at first because I let the girl coerce me into buying what I thought was colour too dark for my skin (oil free tinted moisturiser in nude, camouflage no 3 and translucent loose powder), I suck at speaking my mind at the time, BUT at home and wearing it now, it truly is FLAWLESS. And not too dark at all, it just soaks into my skin. I'm even using the right brush and sponge.

So once again - THANK YOU!

(I'll have to try Nars blush another time - ran out of cash)

good girl!!!!

I used to use nude... Should be fine merm.... Just a little and blend in with fingers... Sponge's are ok... But you still need to blend it into the skin properly... Sometimes it can become streaky...

Remember to look at it in daylight....

I'm so happy you brought it!!!! YEAH!!!!!!!!!

Those products will last you ages!!!!!!!!!!

Hey Ilk - thoughts for this photo shoot thingy in Vegas -- scenario - black strapless ho dress, longer, slit up the sides, laces up the sides (actually its a nice dress but def not something to wear to church) - go glam. Suggestions for makeup? I need to hit the MAC counter I guess. But for what I'm going to guess is an outdoor photo shoot in the Vegas heat in July.

When I did my last show the makeup chick did sort of a green / blue eyeshadow, fake lashes , drew in more eyebrows + protan on me. For something dramatic, intense, but more glamorous than trashy -- suggestions? And is the MAC counter the place to go to get this stuff?

I"m kinda thinking of playing w/ this fake hair I have too - its one of those clip-on pony tail things that sort of looks like a 60s gogo girl ponytail -- so would either have long hair down or hair up. (And yes I'll get my highlights redone before ...)

Or do you have any suggestions for better fall pieces or maybe "how" to do any of that or a place I can go ask abotu it? I bought the fake hair at one of those booths they have in the mall where the Asian girls are selling the hair w/ the fancy crystal clips - it was like $200 worth of hair and anothe $100 worth of clips so its not a cheap fright wig.

LOL at ho dress!!

I see sexy, Smoky, Seductive eyes.... individual false lashes...

So, MAC... These are the colours you should look at for... Remember the MAC girls/guys are usually really nice, I'm sure they can show you how to do it too... Remember to ask them

Always even out the eye lids with oil-free foundation...

Then add a simple biscuit like shadow...

Then its the dramatic colours...

http://www.maccosmetics.com/templates/products/sp.tmpl?CATEGORY_ID=CATEGORY15103&PRODUCT_ID=PROD1503

Shadowy lady -
Nocturnelle and
Folie..

Nocturnelle applied first... Softly, Don't over do it... Blend and use shadowy lady... on the outer corners... Quite intense and dramatic...

2 colours are enough on the lid... Folie would be great as an eyeliner... Wet the liner brush and place in Folie, Apply inside the bottom rim..

Like this - http://tinypic.com/view.php?pic=4vs6us4

The look we want is similar to this
http://tinypic.com/view.php?pic=4lyqogx

Keep the face simple, Contoured and fresh, Use a yellow based foundation so it evens out the skin and hides any redness... Lips... Use a soft raseberry/pinkish colour...

The Max Factor one I suggested for you would look fab! It isn't sticky either...

Hair... Does it have to be one look??

Can we have a look with your hair down and up?

I'd like one look for you to have it down, Straightened and then tonged... to add that soft curl...

Then you can have it up, pulled back, a few strands in front need to come down... The you can pin the hair extension in...

BUT, I'd suggest you go to a hairdresses... Ask them to style your hair if your not sure..... At least you'll have a better understanding...

I would like you to have it up.... With the extension in... Your face will be more out there and and it would be a different look for you too.. Very Glam...

I'll research the hair abit more... And post it later today....

The makeup will be easy.... Is this before Sally's show? If its after, I can show you how to do it....

Something like this Sassy, When having it up

6g3ml8j.jpg

Or

54aleeq.jpg

extension clipped in the back... That would look great... :)

I'm thinking up also - Just seems to look better w /my face. I'll get some recommendations for some one here locally.

And yes this is all for TSO's shoot in LV July 27ish.

What is an appropriate degree of tan for a photo shoot? Any of the girls competing that weekend will be pretty well protanned. I'll have a decent tanning bed tan but probably need a few layers of protan or something? Then if I go w/ the protan, I can do a matching makeup base, e.g. the infamous MAC #45 (reputed to match protan perfectly).

In going to the MAC counter if I assume a base of MAC #45, then they can do that there and pick colors to work with from there. Otherwise it might look different if they go w/ my untanned color right now.

Suggestions on best way to do this to get a near approximation of what the colors will look like both for this shoot (under Las Vegas sun) as well as competition day?

Protan is perfect! MAC 45 is a great colour.... Write the eyeshadow colours down and ask them to show you all 3 Just have a look at them while your there.... Don't buy a colour that matches your correct skintone... Buy the 45... With the Protan, Don't go tooooo dark, Sally's colour would look great on you....

You'll be fine with 45..... It'll work great with the shoot and competition day... I'll show you the best way to apply it when I see you at Sally's show anyway..... I'll try and ask if they can send me some promotional colours... You can have them for your comp..... YES buy the 45.....

When doing makeup for a black and white portrait, the easiest mistake to do is pack on way too much foundation.... No No NO! We don't like that...

The best part of black and white film is that it literally makes your skin look good for you.... Clean, Smooth, Flawless, So just apply your foundation and concealer as you normally would if you were going out.....

Another important trick is to make sure that all red tones in the skin are covered.... Red can show up as gray in a black and white picture, making your skin look splotchy, so make sure you use that yellow concealer before your foundation to effectively hide any redness.....It will eliminate any redness...

Want that dramatic cheekbone look? That look is achieved in the lighting... and slight contouring of the cheek... Just make sure to have "dramatic" or "hard" light.... By placing the light source on the side of the face, you get dramatic shadows on the other side, and fantastic cheekbones.....

Colors in makeup for black and white have a few guidelines to go by.... Any makeup colors that have a blue, red or purple shade or undertone to it will always look darker in the picture than you thought, So if you're going for a dramatic look, try that burgundy lipstick for a dark lip.... Also, black eyeshadow really doesn't show up black. It can come out dark gray in a picture..... So if you want emphasize black smoky eyes, you'll really have to put it on.....

If you want a softer look, all colors with a warm shade or undertone, in yellow or orange, will look lighter than you think it will in a black and white picture.... So apply it with a bit heavier hand, and it will come out just about right in the end......

As far as application, focus and play up the lips and the eyeliner.... Keep a light hand on the blush, and the 5 colors of eyeshadow.... It really won't show! Focus on the bone structure or highlights and shadows of the face and play it up.... The crease of the eye, and contour of the cheekbone, the jawbone..... This technique really plays up the face and makes the bone structure look more balanced......

Keep a lot of loose powder on hand to touch up and play down any shine, especially on the T-zone.......

So, black and white is little more in depth with colours....

As you can see in this photograph, Sophia Loren... Slight definition under her cheekbone

4xvh1mq.jpg

Same with Elizabeth Taylor
4msh1xv.jpg

Look at how dark Loren's eyes are... If you want it that dark... LAYER IT ON!
5z4qq0o.jpg

This isn't completely b&w... But its a great way of seeing what I mean by Contouring the eye... Crease, Use darker shade... etc..

Anyway, Let me know of anything else you may need to know...
