how do you know if someone is white fibered or red fibered?

Its pretty easy to tell if the subject has some kind of athletic history. Me for example is made mostly of slow twitch fibers unfortunately, i know thais because i have always been excellent at endurance sports without even having to train hard. I ran the stockholm marathon without doing any long distance running what so ever.

I think there's a way to test by working up to your 1RM for a lift and then doing 85% of that and seeing how many reps you can get. if it's more than 5 you've got good slow-twitch, if it's less you've got more fast-twitch. I'm just paraphrasing, it's something CoolColJ posted a while ago. I'm mostly fast-twitch I think, because my 1RM on lifts is so much higher than what I can comfortably do sets with.

You have varying ratios, from slow twitch heavy (long distance runners), to mixed fiber - most average people to white fiber heavy - sprinters/ throwers/weightlifters etc

most people with have around 50-50, then you get some people who have a more explosive inclination about 40-60, and then up to the real genetic freaks like sprinterswith 20-80, and people who can jump real high without training etc.

If your 50-50 you can go either way, but you'll never be as good as someone who has dominant fibers in that spectrum who trains as hard as you do.

Exactly. That's why they say elite athletes aren't trained, they're born. DO what you can with your genetics, and don't be pissed that you never acheive a 40 inch vertical or 4.3 40 speed. Not everyone was born to do it.
