What NASA's 'Mohawk Guy' Means for the Future of Space Exploration - Yahoo! News

It's kinda awkward, how they're saying they "need to reach out to young hearts and minds blah blah blah"...but only now that they've experienced budget cuts and can't be as picky/choosy?

I can see how they tried to word their way out of it, but it still came off like a dis. What's funny and interesting is what Obama himself had to say about it; that he's basically proud of NASA for dramatically relaxing their dress codes (as well as fire off stereotype in the process):

"It does sound like NASA has come a long way from the white-shirt, black dark-rimmed glasses and the pocket protectors," Obama told the Mars Curiosity team. "You guys are a little cooler than you used to be."

Isn't it ironic how a government and media indoctrinating everyone that "we are all the same" can only lavish praise on instances that show we're all different?

On one hand there is something to be said about discipline and order. It is undoubtedly needed in certain occupations not to mention aspects of life itself. But so is a more relaxed, creative mind.

Then, what about an organization like NASA, which needs both creative minds as well as logical/technical?

I think this is ultimately a case of a technical mind vs a creatives mind. The perfect solution would be to label NASA's workforce between these two, and assign them each a unique dress code accordingly.
