I think this is the bassackwards fuckwit way of going about it, but it does work.
Or...
1. Goto control panel
2. network connections
3. click on the left side menu where it says "Setup a home or office network" I reckon you'll have to do this with both computers.

I have got to where I can see the shared folder but whenever I add files to the shared folder, I can't see them. All files are set up to be shared yet they're not. I
have no clue

Paulo said:Did you restart you computer afterwards?
Dial_tone said:You need to either enable the "Guest" account or be using the same username on both computers. Each computer has to recognize the username trying to connect and that account needs the rights to save/get files.
Paulo said:You would have to create the same name on each computer.
Dial_tone said:Go into the Manage This Computer doohickey and create an account on both computers with the same name/password.
Paulo said:You could just try FTP maybe.
Or you can just connect to your other computer by typing in it's local IP

I'm assuming your DSL Router has DHCP, so you don't need to worry about assigning IP addresses, as it should be done automatically.
Since both machines have XP, you have to have both in Workgroup mode, so go like this:
1. Open up properties in My Computer and select Computer Name. Click on "Change" and select Workgroup. Then type in a name like "COMPUTER". That will be your workgroup.
2. Go to My Computer, click on the item you want to share with the right mouse button(the whole drive, or just a folder, whatever you want). Select Properties, and then the Sharing tab. Click on Share.
3. Go to My Network Connections and select the Authentication tab. Make sure that EAP IEEE 802.1x is NOT selected. Then go to the TCP/IP properties and make sure that the IP address is set to Automatic and the DNS is also Automatic (which it should be if you have Internet access on either of those machines)
Do the above for both machines exactly to the letter, and it should work.
Reboot both Systems and see what happens. You should now see the shared folders of both machines when you go to My Network Neighbourhood.
Pay attention to #3 as I would bet $$$ that's where you're getting stuck.
Let me know how it goes...

Do you have any software Firewalls?
