Well check this out.. Today I experimented with doing GM's in a smith machine with the foot position out infront of the body, and I must say, it hit the glutes pretty hard. I also got a "deeper" stretch in my hams. Anyone have any thoughts on this?

Romanian deadlifts definitely hit the glutes, went heavier yesterday on em, and I see and feel the effects on my butt
But then again I also did ass to the grass squats, full front squats and deep sideways lunges as well, so its safe to say there is a cumulative effect!
