How about this for morning cardio?

shooting some hoops

would that work?

I could work on my game plus it would help burn excess fat.

I get up at about 6:30 and do few hundred shots, layups etc

nothing too intense, I just brake a little sweat in the morning out on the court

But I'm doing this all on empty stomach, so would this be catabolic or would it work as a morning cardio?

I can prolly run a mile instead but Id really rather work on my skills...

Running would be catabolic, too. A brisk walk would be all you need to burn excess fat. If you really wanna practice your game though, you can get away with some 'hoops'. Not a big deal.

Last Spring I would actually play soccer for cardio every Friday night for 2 hours. It was "fun" trying to play soccer with a lot of small Asians, Greeks, Africans, Arabs etc...

THis better be an awfully fast paced "brisk"..........

Well I play usually 3-4 times a week at local college open gyms for 2 hours but thats during the day

I work out 3 times a week where I go by that jumping program( explosive squats, power cleans, push press, bench etc) and on sundays I just do arms even though it should be my off day

play soccer with old guys on saturdays and sundays, I consider that my sprint day though and footwork day

so far I'm in the best shape of my life, my stregth has gone up and i feel great...
I know I wont be gaining too much muscle this way but thats not my goal, I want to maintain my weight of 210-220

so far its been goin well

THATS all THAT IS IMPORTANT@!

We have a cardio board now for these kinds of questions.

It's not really clear what your goal is, but if it is maintaining good health, it sounds like good low-moderate working out.

I would add one good long run a week to the mix (10 miles).

ummm...ok....lol

Here are my goals

Increase my vertical leap
Quickness
Basketball skills
Be in the best shape I can be (that includes: Low bf%, stamina, as much muscle as I can have)

This are the goals that will help me acomplish my main goal and the main goal for me right now is to win the MVP in my junior college division for basketball.

after that I have more goals but for right now thats the "short term" goal

I will polish off my diet and training during summer when I have no school. Right now I am doing the best I can.

The good part about all this is that, everyday, I'm seeing an improvment just by following my plans/goals. So I'm kinda jazzed right now.

Come season time and I'll be tearing shit up.

What's the point of adding a 10 mile run, Synpax?

To puke....why else? Obviously NOT a bodybuilding reccomendation......it's for someone looking to elevate thier cardiovascular status.....you couldn't pay me to run 5 miles, let alone 10...........

Good call on that, B.

Thanks...

It is the ONLY reason why playing soccer worked for me. I STUNK at soccer but I had fun playing with all my Greek friends. My girlfriend played Pro Soccer for Hungary and she was one of the best players on the field. I loved watching her play and it was fun to learn. I mean...I was HORRIBLE at it but I hate to lose...so I was constantly pushing myself in the games.

Once I realized that I could get a little better if I practiced some...I got a soccer ball and started playing around in my back yard once a week. I was really excited about it, that is for sure. It sure was fun.

Now I'm just walking on the treadmill and doing some INTENSE riding on the bicycle once a week. I am also doing more tire dragging mid-week and sled walking which is keeping me motivated to do it from time to time. I'll be looking for something different soon...maybe I'll try to shoot some hoops too.

I love basketball, mountain biking (if I ever get a new one), brisk walks on bike trails (maybe jogging during the walk every so often), grappling and bag training (as more intense forms of cardio), and swimming in the Summer...if I build up the courage to take off my shirt. Dammit I wanna be bigger.

soccer is great, I play soccer cause everyone in our country plays it, starting from drug addicts to food addicts.
as for basketball, thats just what I love to do and what I've done since I was 11

I might have to switch soccer with sprints though, and some other work out on the track.
