That is probably how it works. It makes sense because the veins do not normally pump by themselves so the hot and cold is doing that. I bet some light sets at the gym would accomplish the same thing, but a pain in the butt because you have to go to the gym to do it.TerraNoble said:

As you swithc from hot water to cold, your blood vessels actually open and close, flushing lactic acid-which causes soreness-out of the muscle.
Don't take only my word for it ( I have been doing it for a few years) ;there are sports injury management specialists who work with Olympic hopefuls that advocates this method and swers by it.

I only shower on Saturdays so would I shower with cold water on the first and third Saturday, or the second and fourth?
