Hot water/cold water

The russians like to switch between hot water and cold water. They swear that it helps the muscles recover quicker. What's your take on this subject.

Actually is called scotish shower, and it works pretty good !

Alternating hot water for 30 sec with cold water for 30 sec., would help flushing out faster the built up of acid lactic and prevent the soreness after a workout or a run.

You do this routine 5 to 10 times depending on your cold water tolerance.
At the beginning it is a little bit unconfortable but you will get used after the first two doses.

It feels awesome when you get out from the shower and you eliminate almost complete the chance of a next day soreness... I have been doing this routine for almost 3 years and it really helped me with my recovery process.

It really worth to give it a try!!

LOL

On the contrary, I feel a lot better than a regular shower, not to mention that muscle recovery is faster.

All that stuff about catching a cold from going outside barefoot on a cold day or walking around with wet hair is just an old wives tale. You need a bug to create that cold.

Couldn't you just do light cardio for 5-10 mintues to remove lactic acid and other waste from your muscle? This would work just as well, although the shower thing does make you feel refreshed and energetic. It's like going from whirlpool to regular pool too.

Whichever makes you feel better I guess.

I don't see how this would work because if you have cold water running on your body it would restrict the blood flow in your veins. I would think that taking a shower with hot water would be the best because overall circulation should increase.

no, it doesn't cause one to get sick, it just lowers the immune system by stressing the body, which in turn leads to people getting sick.

Actually, a hot shower only would not have the same benefit as a hot-and-cold shower.

As you swithc from hot water to cold, your blood vessels actually open and close, flushing lactic acid-which causes soreness-out of the muscle.

Don't take only my word for it ( I have been doing it for a few years) ;there are sports injury management specialists who work with Olympic hopefuls that advocates this method and swers by it.

Showers...

I hear "golden showers" are good for recuperation... Which one of you whackos has tried the "golden shower" approach. He, he, he!

That is probably how it works. It makes sense because the veins do not normally pump by themselves so the hot and cold is doing that. I bet some light sets at the gym would accomplish the same thing, but a pain in the butt because you have to go to the gym to do it.

Berry Demey used to recommend this kind of shower after workouts and it feels so good:) YOU GO OUT VERY FRESH AND RECOVERED. And I have never gotten sick from doing this.

i think its called cryrotherapy.(also refers to icing joints/tendons/ligaments, pain, bruises etc)

We touched over it at school...and got to experience it whilst training at an olympic facility

I am a firm believer

I often dont get to use it......but i do get to ice my knees which helps a lot

Some would say that is a good remedy after a hangover..IT really sobers you up!

I only shower on Saturdays so would I shower with cold water on the first and third Saturday, or the second and fourth?

You should just stay away from water, especially holy water. Who would I do combat with if that was to happen.
