Hiit?

Can someone explain hiit to me. What does it stand for? Also do you have to be on a diet to lose fat if you do hiit? Also how long rest between sprints?

High Intensity Interval Training, theres no right or wrong way to do it..you can do intervals of whatever you want, for instance i do 50m sprints, and walk or jog back, do 10 right now, and work my way up to more...some people might do 100's, some might do 25's...some might do stairs, some might do hills, theres no right or wrong way.

Not sure if i Understand this question right, to lose fat youre going to have to cut cals, thus being on a diet...

like I mentioned before, you set your own standards, or you can follow someone elses program...its up to you.

play around with it, see what you like and dont like...but dont make it a chore, keep it fun so you'll keep coming back to it.

I've been doing the Shawn Phillips version sort of. I warm-up by jogging the five minutes. Track running is much different than treadmill running, I've learned. Anyway after the warm-up run I stretch some more and rest a bit then I go into the intervals of 30 second sprint 30 second jog. I can do the first one all the way through but after my second 30 second sprint I have to walk I'm so burnt I can't do the 30 second sprint. After about a minute of rest I do another 30 second sprint but it only lasts for about 20 then I start to taper off on my speed. It's a damn hard thing to do sprint. The other big problem that I'm having with it right now is that my calves keep cramping up. My left calf locked up on me two weeks ago and I gave it 9 days rest before running again. Then last Thursday I was on my last sprint and my right calf cramped, not as bad as the left from before but still bad. My question is why am I cramping? How can I prevent it?
