High ALT figure on bloodwork

tasride

New member
Hi there people, Apologies if this is the wrong serction, however thought it was relevant due to bloodwork and the like. I have recently had some bloodwork and results include high ALT figure of around 120, however everything else is spot on. Has anyone else had a history of this and what were the contributing factors?

Im currently gearing up for first cycle, involving test and anavar, however only in the past supplemented NTBM tranasderm, formastanzol, need2slin and other staples. Unfortunately over the last few months I have been injured and took up a few bad habits and partied a little, this included some recreational substances, however this has ceased and im back on track.

Ideally, like to hear from anyone who has had high ALT figures from their bloods and possible contributing factors, other than AAS use.

Thanks for your time.

no I have never had an issue with my ALT. ALT means you have a lot of alkaline phosphatase.. that is typically a liver issue or it could be something like a digestive disorder. I have never ever seen someone with 120 ALT. that is way way way too high and something is wrong (i'm sure you are aware that alcohol/drugs can spike this number, do you take either?)

kudos for you to getting bloods done before cycling. you possibly have caught something major before it became worse juicing. from here it is time to consult a good doctor and alert them of your condition, you will likely have to do more tests to figure out what is wrong.

everyone reading this should be a wakeup call do RUN BLOODS before you cycle. sometimes during, and of course after as well. i have a link in my signature below that will get you started with a discount code

Thanks for the reply Steve. Have also just been to Doctor regarding this issue, had further blood test and negative for hepatitis and other associated diseases. I have also had scan of liver, looks great, no issues, all other organs looking really good. Doc was puzzled and will be calling the biochemist to discuss...............basicly have been sent on my way, however feel very uneasy about this still and may look at consulting with another medical practioner.

^^^ did u drink and/or mix any type of drug before the test? that could of spiked the number. if so then you need to stop drinking or taking any drugs like tylenol or whatever for a few weeks and then test again. if its still high then you've got something going on for sure. if it comes down then you need to quit drinking if you want to cycle in the future

Working out can cause an elevation in liver enzymes. Did you have a hard workout the day before? 120 is still high, but its just an idea. If I'm having my liver enzymes tested, I know to take about 5 days off from the gym.

Prior to the test, maybe had drugs and alcohol a week prior and night before test I completed a 5km run. My ALT figures were quite high last test @ 60 in early 2012, so this concerns me that they have increased.

Thanks for the advice its appreciated, I take my health very seriously and the party lifestyle I adapted was very much out of character, something I have ceased due to it not being me and what im about in life. I understand whats required prior to cycling and im in no rush.

Do you take any statin drugs for cholesterol? They commonly raise liver enzymes. Tylenol can also do it. I had abnormal liver enzymes one time due to taking vicodin (contains acetominofen) after I had a tooth pulled.

Nah, only supplement vitamin c, need2slin, CLA, fish oil and most recently prime from USPS labs. Im not taking any medication, only taken gastro stop and panadols within last month....

5K run really isn't that bad unless you extremely out of shape. i mean i used to run 4-6 miles a day and never had such crazy ALT levels.. and I workout daily usually 2-3X per day.. cardio and weights and my bloods never show up like that.

keep working with your doctor and take a solid 3 weeks off from any supps, drugs, alcohol and re-test and see what happens.

Thanks Steve, yes looking at re test in few weeks - have need2guard and milk thistle on hand and using daily combined with my old healthy lifestyle. Will update this thread accordingly...hopefully with positive results!

Hmmm, maybe you're onto something. I wonder if you were very active a few days before your blood being drawn in 2012.

I work in the healthcare field and I did a project about how liver enzymes can be falsely elevated after exercise since the ALT and AST are indirect liver enzymes. Indirect meaning it looks for damage within the body itself, not just the liver. It's been 10+ years so I can only remember so much. I also remember back in the day when Dave Palumbo was part of the Muscular Development magazine he had written an article, or answered a question, relating to this and recommended taking several days off from the gym to get a clearer picture of the liver enzymes.

I was very active over the entire weekend leading upto the liver test and then the night prior ran a quite touch hill climb which overall was 5km. Could be onto somethign and within research ive done online, the whole exercise, inflammation causing raises in liver enzymes has been raised. May take 5 days off prior to next test and see how we go.......cant hurt!

That's what I'm talking about bro. Panadol= Tylenol= acetaminophen.

Very hard on the liver.

Funny, never thought of panadol as being that harsh on liver, naive really - great points raised fellas and your knowledge really is appreciated, as you can imagine, these levels are cause for concern. Looking forward to seeing what next results yield based on my increased knowledge...cheers

As promised, follow up from original post. Has been one month, have reverted back to my healthy lifestyle and had another blood test. The ALT figures have dropped to 69, this is fantastic based on previous figure of 120+. Obviously still high but is shown to be decreasing. Im currently using Liv 52, need2guard and milk thistle......

chalk up another win for steve'o

glad you took my advice over your doctor.

Yeah mate, was great advice, however did learn alot by the health scare so have come out alot wiser regarding my body and the liver. It amazes me how many people dont take really good care of their livers, not me anymore!
