how do i do these properly.. i know u walk while holding DBs but is there and strategy or anything like that?

videos would help!

are you talking about doing walking lunges? Sorry if that's not it, i'm just not familiar with the Farmer's walk term, but let me know i know where there is some video resources for walking lunges

If you are talking the strongman event I've never personally done it but I've watched quite a bit of it at WSM on television and seen it live at some lower level regional strongman events (so take this with a grain of salt but I doubt it's inaccurate). What I've taken away is that I generally see most guys take quick small steps and be very careful around corners. What tends to ruin people are when momentum gets hold of the weight and it is not aligned with the body. You get a few hundered pounds moving in a different direction from your body and it's a major issue so the small steps keep everything straight and balanced with no twising or bobbing. Corners are where the weight can really get out of line so they take special care and practice. Obviously grip is key but these precautions allow you to push out some fast times where you are rushing but not carelessly rushing as inefficiencies and recoveries bleed time and make it more strenuous. I believe Scottsman (forget his exact name) is a strongman competitor here. You might also check out the strongman forum here http://www.midwestbarbell.com/totalelite/.

i was told they are killer for your forearms.. perhaps its walking lunges

cornfish could u show me some vids?

btw K for you both

He is talking about the event that the strong men do. It's where they carry a tank in each hand that weighs like 225 lbs. and they race each other for distance.

grab the heaviest dumbells in your gym and start walking. when your grip fails, set them down, wait a few minutes, pick them back up and go again. excellent for improving grip strength. also quit using straps in your training, except for rackpulls/shrugs and that will also help your grip strength

i dont use an straps only gloves becuz the calasies or w/e were gettin too bad on my hands

but this will burn the forearms also right?

yes, farmers walks are fantastic for grip and forearm strength, as well as just about every other part of your body! Are you actually using the implements or using DB's in the gym? The implements are much different then using DB's, if you are actually talking about events and walking with them in hand and controlling their weight balance. But if you are looking to use DB's as implements to improve grip and forearm strength, like others here said, just grab the heaviest possible DBs you can handle and walk with them (if you can) in the gym. I actually bought a couple of curl bars and plates and used those as sort of makeshift implements and walked around a parking lot down the street. Great workout. And it's a LOT tougher than you would think to control them on the turn.
