Help from VETS with deadlift form

New member
i have been in this game for three years so i dont want some know it all on here pulling there shit, anyways i have found that regular deads dont work my back anything close to what stiff leg deads do,i find regular deads work my hams and stiffs my lower back,is there any reason to this? form on regular deads maybe, ive had a guy i know off this board show me what the form is he uses and i do it that way also, anything i can do to make my back feel the regular deads

thanx

no offense but that post isn;t written too clearly.

what exactly are you asking?

what part of your back do you want the deads to work?

when do you do stiffs and when do you do regular deads?

sorry about that,i dont do regular deads anymore because i find they dont work my back like stiff legs do,so i now do stiff legs which leave me pretty sore, what i wanna know is what could i be doing wrong that regular deads dont burn my back out like stiff legs, and the form is good when i do both

so do you do stiffs on leg day or back day?

[or do you do hams with back?]

deads never 'burned' my back out after a while either. after 3-4 weeks the next day i was fine after deads. same goes for all really.

i do stiffs on back day becuase thats what the work for me,they dont do a thing for hams on me,same as regulars dont so anything for my back

and gymtime this isnt something i will find in any other post

could i be doing something wrong that regular deads dont feel like enough for my back?

so you don;t feel stiffs in your hams and you don;t feel deads in your back?

are you sure you ain;t doing dips or something haha...

you must be a freak mate.

ok seriously, what do you want out of deads? what are you expecting to feel?

First, the SLDL's... How far down are you going? Are you doing keystones? Keeping your back straight, or arching it? (or curving it). Are you sticking your butt out when you do them?

Now the conventional deads: once again, what's your ROM? Are you doing sumo or regular style? How's your form? (ever had someone watch them). It's VERY hard for someone to evaluate your lifts without actually seeing them...

out of regular deads i want my lower back cooked and i want to feel it overall in my back,i can only achieve that by stiff leg deads
i have watched a bro from this baord show me how to do them and thats how i do it back straight bend knees and down then squeeze at the top, dont feel a damn thing, and i use regular style not sumo

Oak, not trying to be a dick but dissto said that the form he watched you doing was not regular or stiff legged, something in between. He and I deadlift together and I know that the form he would have showed you is bang on, you really might want to get someone to watch you when you are doing them, a lot of times with an exercise like deads you think you are hitting the correct form when in fact you are not. Done in correct form, you should be sore from lower back to your traps.

just cause you're not sore doesn;t mean jack schitt. [ps i have the story of jack schitt]

if you're adding weight or reps then you're good to go.

I agree with the soreness part, I went mid 400's this past week for 3 sets of 5 on the deadlift and the next day didn't feel a thing, but my back is growing so who cares

needsize dissto is right then,i figure i will drop weights down to a 45 a side and get that form down,i dont think its helping me by cheating,i honestly appreciate you telling me i did it wrong, atleast im not going on thinking im doing it right, ill have to get somebody from park to watch me,maybe i will see dissto in there tomorrow nite, once again thanks man i appreciate the help

Your hams are weak in my opinion. When you are deadlifting...you are finding that your hams are giving out very soon and being the limiting factor.

Remember, on slds...the first thing to move is your hips, not your waist. You NEVER bend over on them...you just push your butt back. Take the bar down to mid-shin only...keep your back arched...and that is as far as you need to go.

email if you need more help...

yes thats exactly what i am doing wrong for stiff legs, and hams havent ever been a strong point of mine,im trying to catch them up with my quads before i have knee probs

Reverse hypers, glute/ham raises, goodmornings, slds, etc...they will bring up your hams more than anything.

Oak, either one of us would be happy to show you how it's done, the key is make sure that if at all possible that someone who knows what to watch for is spotting you on it until the motion becomes natural. The point is to keep your hips down and back straight, but as soon as you start to add weight your body is going to want to do it differently, ie, hips rise up first. It does take a while to get it right but the gains are worth it.

i actually think thats where i went wrong,i am going to drop the weight right down and rebuild my form,i sent you a pm about your routine,i will be at the gym mon-wed 8-9pm and thursday im not sure yet,but if you or dissto are around ill definatly get ya to watch and see if i do it right with less weight

thanks again
