I was checking shawn's diet for mass gains and i was confused, why he has 6 meals a day. My nutritionist told me it makes sense to have 6 small meals per day when your are losing weight but not when you want to get bigger. Im trying to bulk and my diet is three large meals a day (no carbs at night) with a protein shake in between meals, would that be ok too?
 
Small meals throughout the day makes a lot of sense. Small meals will provide constant amino acid levels in the body and stable blood sugar levels. This will promote muscle growth and prevent fat storage.

Protein shakes are basically the same thing as meals so 6 small meals vs 3 shakes + 3 meals is basically the same thing. I do something similar. I eat 4 whole food meals per day and use shakes for my pre and post workout meal. It's still 6 meals per day, but 2 of those meals are from shakes.

Before my workout I mix the protein powder into oatmeal with some natural almond butter. After my workout, I mix the protein powder with a carbohydrate powder and a greens powder.

If you are going to use 2-3 shakes per day, make sure to use a high quality pure whey isolate. All protein powders are not created equal. You really need to be a smart consumer in today's market and do your research. Look at the ingredient list and supplements fact panel on every supplement before buying it.

For a whey protein - you want to see nothing but that in the ingredients list. Whey protein, natural flavours, a natural calorie free sweetener like stevia and then maybe some salt, soy lechitin and cocoa powder. There are a lot of good products on the market. I personally use isolation from n2bm.com. A good whey isolate should be pretty much fat and carb free. Isolation has 26g protein, 1g carb, 0g fat per 30g scoop.
