Has a bigger career ever gone downhill this quickly?

So after reading the article, the wife said he was prescribed drugs and was on them while he was driving. Knee pain and insomnia I'm assuming. So then she finds out about these other women and calls in saying he was on things that will definitely be in his system because she feels punked. Finding out your spouse fucked you over like that is horrible and wouldn't blame her honestly. Fuck man, you got a kid (kids?) don't fuck around.

How often do people have success early then have long careers unabated? They usually flame out early like Tyson. Kobe is probably a rarity although he started to nut up too.

1) I did not say anything about his earnings.
2) He has EARNED a billion, not worth it.
3) A billion is never easy. Watch your tongue!
4) He would I think have matched Oprah on the multi-billion level, but if endorsements go he will have no chance. He will never make the billion level. Not just with golf. I think he stands a good chance of losing his sponsors if this pans out to the downside. Not that it matters, because a few hundred million and a billion are for all intents and purposes the same from a lifestyle perspective. The point being the fall from grace. Yes I compared him to Oprah as another black celebrity, so what it's convenient! Chris Rock would approve.
5) A career this huge has never fallen this quickly, if all these whores are proven to really have been his lovers. That's all I was saying.
 
Weird. You guys are acting like this was a no big deal guy. No he isn't God, yeah he's human. but so nonchalant about it all happening so quickly is a queer reaction. Honestly I do think these frivolous reactions about the biggest sports figure of our time must be the product of the internet, not national enq or anyone else. Nothing shocks no 'mo. I guess you have to murder.

Very true. I think his seeming innocence in public makes this so much more shocking don't you? He doesn't strike you as a particularly macho guy, even though we all know how much access to women anyone of his stature must have... he just seemed to not care about it so much. This makes the trophy wife seem obvious, and the jokes about how she would never have sex with him on any regular basis... but I still didn't expect it. Tony Romo I would expect, and he delivers on that.
 
The whole Tiger Woods Foundation teaching on and off the course values must be enjoying this press.
 
this is called the media getting revenge on Tiger for not speaking out and giving interviews and giving the media a big fat FU by hiding indoors where not a single pap can get even ONE picture of him.

So the media, being dared by Tiger who thinks it will all go away by paying off the chicks - are wating a WW3 against Tiger to see if he finally blinks, and has to give a press conference/interview. So far he's already successfuly said FU to the cops, but he has blinked once and had to give out a website note that "he's sorry".

He started the war against the media by ignoring him, and they all seem hellbent on taking him down, with or withoyut his help. This is interesting to watcch since the old PR addage is "ignore it, don't feed the tabloids and it will all go away". fortunately, the tabliods have all the women and juicy details to talk about forever.

His career is playing golf, which at this point hasn't been shown to be affected or not. If he comes out in in next few tournies and suddenly misses three cuts in a row, then we can talk about his career. Although I believe he's already said he's not playing anymore this year.

His reputation has gone downhill incredibly quickly. Yes, his charitable organizations must be pretty pissed.

There was a report published 11/25 saying that Gatorade was going to discontinue that line. I don't care enough to find the artilce.
 
I thought they just discontinued the specific Tiger drink. I didn't see that they dropped him all together.


no one bought that Tiger Focus shit anyways. Gatorade is Gatorade.
 
I also saw something saying that ads featuring Tiger Woods weren't going to be aired during primetime for awhile??? That seems like overkill to me.
 
This is almost as big a news story as OJ Simpson. I remember 45-minute documentaries on TV in '94 about what OJ ate for breakfast in the Los Angeles County Jail. I guess we need nonsense news stories to draw us away from the real news, and real menaces in the world today. I'm amused by how many threads are started on all of the different forums to which I belong!

Keep in mind that he's only rich because he makes others richer. If his sponsors get rid of him, they can't make money off him anymore. The public are often forgetful idiots, so don't count on negative popular opinion making him a liability. A public statement, some more news bites, etc. can probably manipulate enough opinions (amongst those who actually care about this shit) favourably.

Disclaimer: I have no cable TV and don't follow the "news" much, so I know jack shit except that he got into a car accident, messed around with drugs/alcohol, had issues with his wife, may have slept around, etc. Newsflash: this is common enough for celebrities. The fact that it's Tiger really don't change much.

LOL...ok. The reality is that they don't want him associated with their products anymore, and that there is no chance in hell that they'll re-up with him once the current deal expires.

Accenture just dumped him too...the endorsement side of his career is in free-fall. I'm guessing that by the time that it's all said and done, the only one he'll have left is Nike. He better not take too much time off of golf...him being the best golfer in the world is the only thing that will keep Nike on board long-term.

True of any asset, the value in it is it's ability to produce a certain return on itself, whether a factory or person. Not sure what you mean other than that pointing out that universal truth. He happens to be the one most valuable asset the sports world has, if you prefer to compare him to GE, Exxon or Microsoft as an analogy in their respective fields. Ah but you say, a fall by those corporations would affect so many employees! Real people! Tiger affects nobody!

Except that... friend... Tiger doesn't just lose the money from his endorsements lost and the unfortunate people who used to make the ads that featured him pumping his fists.

Golf viewing drops by 50% when Tiger is not on. That is hundreds of millions of dollars in revenue, advertising and otherwise,and I continue to use commas to make run ons but I dare say the world will be cost billions. It's just as relevant as a huge company going under. He has just crippled an entire industry with his transgressions. Thousands will lose their jobs. I would bet money on it.

yes, but, well, at this point with everyone but his staunchest sponsor gone, will be resigned at maybe a tenth of the price? That was my point, this is going from the most successful athlete in history financially to a commoner amongst his peers, in a matter of days. Shocking and staggering and nobody ever had an inkling of it before this happened in a matter of an instant over a long career.

conceding: this could explain it all. Given that you don't watch TV you possibly didn't know he is the biggest sports star in the world.

I'll concede the Britney Spears scenario is possible to an exponential degree. This fuels Tiger to a level of play that has never been witnessed and he makes himself bigger than ever.

But if not I predict huge ratings for his first couple tournaments back and then contract resignings for a pittance of his former value. I don't see how a company could think someone who hits ass all over the world could hold himself back from doing this again, so his value is permanently marred.

Wait until he wins a major this year. All those sponsors will be back plus he will have every right to tell them to double their money or they can piss off.
