You are kidding me right??

I bought a PS3 and have given it some time and it is crap.

Downloads are terribly slow and once you wait 5 times as long as xbox takes to download a demo....you get to wait even more while the demo "installs"....wtf??

online is a mess, every game I try to play has to be "updated" before I can play them, which again takes forever.

What exactly is so awesome about this system again? besides the blue ray?

Its called buying a PS3 4 years after its come out, you have some updates to catch up on. I have one and its been just fine since I got it. I have a 360 too and there is really no difference in load times or online speed. Something isn't right with your network setup then if the network is slow. You have it on wireless or wired?

wired and Im not talking system updates...Im talking game demos.

Some games have to be updated on the xbox too....but its a matter of seconds not 10+ min.

havent played to many demo's. programing for the ps3 is different from xbox. programmers wanting to take advantage of its capability have a lot more coding, plus the programmers know they have enough space to fill on bluray vs dvd. the core programming for the app is probably larger than microsofts code so files might be larger downloads, installing a larger file size would take more time as would loading a larger file size.

thats all i can think of. pick up a ps3 exclusive game like God of War 3 and you will be happy. one of the best games i've played in a long time.

I played the demo of God of War 3 but didn't really like it...felt like a button masher to me.

"Played" Home too....how fucking lame is that shit?

Trying to give it more time to grow on me but not impressed at all.

You sound like Mr Plunkey whining about how he can't even load a Windows system without it crashing lol.

I can download demos, trailers, etc. from PSN usually as fast as I can on my Win 7 PC (about 75-100 MB/minute) but sometimes it's slower during busy times.
I dunno why people rag about this to be honest it's either shit luck or just bs from Xbots.

I will admit that game updates can take longer than downloads themselves but it never bothered me as I've always had other things to be doing in the meantime.

Even if downloads/installs were slow I'd rather have that than the ridiculous file size limits XBL places on their downloads.

Vid quality is kinda shit and the player sucks but there are plenty of youtube vids like the following showing PSN running smoothly-

I like the part at the end touting the expandable HDD capacity which is completely up to the user, not overpriced and proprietary like Xbox.

Bottom line is XBL and PSN can have lag issues but when it does happen I'd rather not have to be paying for it.

I have all three systems (Wii, XBox 360, and PS3) and don't really see a difference with the load times.

bitching about downloading demos?

gimme a break dude. if that's what your major concern with a system is, you gotta be joking.

Better graphics and blu-ray are reason alone to get a ps3. Plus the best of the ps3 exclusive games are some of the best gamse i've played on any system.

online play is better with xbox but never had connection issues with PSN.

i don't dislike the xbox at all. I love the gears of war and mass effect games, and will buy a 360 again at some point (had to sell mine during some lean times two years ago). but any multi platform games i'll almost always get the PS3 version..with the exception of a game like Bayonetta.

but 99% of multi plat games look better on ps3 and run smoother

Don't know about that. Seen many comparison screens that you mouse over and it flip flops PS3 vs. 360 and most of the time the 360 has the edge on multi-platform games. Its really minute and nit picky, but 360 usually has the edge. I think that will change with Portal 2 if its multi-platform though.

Just felt like arguing for arguments sake. Watching the same multi-platform game running real time on 360 vs. PS3 no one would really know the difference at all. The two things that really impact how you view a game are frame rate and draw distance and neither of which have ever been a factor on any of the multi-platform games in recent times. Both good systems, I own both and don't really prefer one over the other.

not the only issue..

The graphics are definitely not better than xbox 360...you are just delusional if you really think they are.

terrible controller controls, interface,I just tried the netflix streaming, worst interface ever.

The PlayStation store is garbage.

Good games are far and few in between.

I'm no fan boy and have all 3 systems and I waited forever for Sony to get their shit together but they are way behind microsoft.

Recommend me a good quality game please...and not God of War either.

I'll give it one advantage...the blue ray is awesome....and videos for what ever reason seem to look better.

Graphics? If you're talking about multiplats, then yeah the 360 might have better graphics in some cases. Exclusives are a different story though from 2007 on-

Games....there is a broad range of titles available now from every genre. It kinda seems like your mind is made up that they will all be crap though :whatever:

not at all.....I have been messing around and playing the PS3 for a week totally ignoring my xbox and wii(not that I played the wii much anyway).

I was looking for a game to pick up when I bought the PS3 and 98 % looked uninteresting to me.

Can you recommend a fps for me?

Heavy Rain was heavily hyped....it was lame.

You really want some games recommended when the controls are terrible? It sounds more like you're just flame baiting or something since everything you've tried for it sucks (except Blu-ray lol).

Actually yes....I'm trying to give the PS3 a fair chance.

But after holding out for so long listening to the people who only choose to buy 1 console, I think most Ps3 owners are in denial.

I've boughten all three consoles as well, but found that a PC/PS3 is the best combination for me, if I had to get a console. The Wii I bought for the gf and doesn't have any games that really interest me. I grew up on Nintendo but also kinda grew out of it. Xbox 360 was cool at first, but I didn't like the fact at the time that I had to buy $100 adapters just to get a WIFI signal to avoid stringing 20' of extra cable around the floor between rooms, and the thing's reliability was sketchy at best. Gears of War owned everything at one point, but when I got tired of it I went to a PS3 because it had built in WIFI and its game outlook looked more diverse and high quality than Xbox's after a while. It also has a standard HDD and Blu-ray capacity, which means more developer possibilities/longer lifespan.

Not to mention it managed to convince the most die hard anti-PS3 developer to choose it over the 360 to implement Steam on.

Gabe Newell then-
"The PS3 is a total disaster on so many levels, I think It’s really clear that Sony lost track of what customers and what developers wanted," Newell told Game Informer magazine. "I’d say, even at this late date, they should just cancel it and do a ‘do over’. Just say, ‘This was a horrible disaster and we’re sorry and we’re going to stop selling this and stop trying to convince people to develop for it.’"

Gabe Newell: "PlayStation 3 Is a Total Disaster" - Xbox

Gabe Newell now-

This is a hardcore PC guy, basically saying that he's now favoring PS3 because he realizes it's more PC-like than the 360 ever will be. I've always though Microsoft's console division behaves more like Apple than anything. Kinda ironic.

Exactly how does the ps3 behave more like a PC?

Me thinks Sony needed to buy off somebody to make that statement. Look I'm not going to debate graphics on the two cause in the end, the PS3 will probably eek out a win there. But to say it works more like a PC than the 360? Ummmm, right. I'm not a computer engineer but I remember reading what alot of developers had to say about how the Ps3 uses it's memory...didn't sound like a PC and the developers said as much. It was a pain in the ass to develop for and still is. And it's "meant" to be that way. Sony wants there to be such a steep learning curve for their hardware that it takes up all your fucking resources as a developer....nothing to spare for other platforms. Microsoft uses this same strategy with it's software which is why companies are reluctant to switch to anything else cause they've invested so much money in training their employees on microsoft software like excel and access.

You realize the main point of that E3 appearance was because Valve is putting Steam on PS3, no? That's why he made the comment about Portal 2 being "the best version of any console". Why would they put it on PS3 and not 360?

It wasn't about hardware architecture, but rather about what kind of services and features each system is capable of, as the 360 doesn't have things like-

-Standard HDD (MS can thank the Arcade SKU for that, and I bet they're kicking themselves now).
-User upgradeable HDD of any size, brand etc. as long as it's a 2.5" drive. Whereas MS uses the still overpriced proprietary kind.
-No file size limit on downloads. There are game demos on PS3 larger than what 360 can allow for full games.

Don't quote me on those as being "the" reasons, but I figure they had something to do with the PC-like advantages Gabe thought of before striking this deal. Of course, it's not like a PS3 love bug bit Gabe in the ass one day and made him do a 180. There was as much an effort on Sony's part to convince him they've changed their ways enough to give proper support they might not have had years ago.

There was an article about this after E3 that maybe explains it better than I did-

anyone who says xbox 360 has better graphics than ps3 is a retard.

i guess every single major industry gaming magazine is wrong huh?

I think at BEST the ps3 CAN have as good as graphics as the xbox 360...problem is that it is so hard to develop games for the ps3 that it it takes way way to long for a good game to come out.

Bought a game today, had to wait about 10 min for all the "updates"to be downloaded and intstalled before I could play and I have a fast 10mb/sec internet.

I think a lot of PS3 hate comes from Sony just being around so long and dominating. Then when they stumbled at launch a lot of people just loved pouring the salt in the wounds and jumped on the Xbox wagon. Eventually people will realize Microsoft's console business is no different and with Kinect is actually looking worse for core gamers.

I can appreciate as a consumer that Sony spares no expense into making their (exclusive) games as good as they can be, with each seeming to have a unique look and feel. Can't really say the same for Microsoft, where almost every single game uses the Unreal 3 engine and the marketing budget rivals development's. Watch when Gears of War 3 and Halo: Reach hit, you'll see stuff for them everywhere. Although I give Bungie credit; they reworked a few things and it looks quite a bit better than Halo 3. They had to step it up though, especially with their grand finale and with other games out looking so good now.

What would you say is the best looking Xbox 360 game?

The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion

gears of war 2

mass effect 2

I think there are many that look really good...but I am not a graphics whore, I prefer the game play.

There are ps3 games that look really good also, but they take way to long to develop.

I have a PS3 and an Xbox, and I play on my PS3 while the Xbox 360 collects dust. PS3 online gaming is free and it has Little Big Planet, Unhcharted 2, Killzone 2, Motorstorm 2. The xbox 360 has only mass effects and halo and gears which are stupid and getting old.

The only thing I like about the Xbox 360 is their online system. But again, with recent updates Sony is starting to catch up.

I am sorry, but PS3 wins this rounds. Little Big Planet is just too awesome and I cant get enough from it!

Uncharted 2 took no longer than any of the games you posted, and was named unanimously best graphics of '09 industry wide.

Also, Elder Scrolls was one of the first multiplats that looked better on the PS3, because it wasn't just a sloppy port-

(watch in 720p)

They spent more time on the PS3 version, but ended up with less load times, higher resolution textures, better draw distances, less bugs. The only games that sometimes take a long time to develop on PS3 are a developer's first effort on it. It depends on the developer though and what they're putting into the game.

looks better than the xbox version...I'll give you that, but i was just throwing out some quick examples.

But still, it takes way to long to develop for the ps3.

there are pros and cons to both, I would for love for sony to step up more and actually listen to its fan base more.

They really need to redesign their controller especially the button mapping.

Insomniac has put out a PS3 game every year since it was released. It might be more labor intensive but you could say the Xbox 360 takes way too long to develop for now too. Alan Wake took 5 years for example. Both systems are putting out sequels every two years so that argument doesn't make sense anymore.

The only thing I'd say Xbox 360 has over PS3 at this point is cross game chat, which will probably be on PS3 soon anyways. It also seems like Sony has actually been listening to what their users want more than Microsoft, as they've made larger strides feature and functionality-wise that apply as much to gamers as casual users. Microsoft however is going the more casual route with all the social apps and now Kinect-

The button layout is the same as Xbox other than the analog sticks. The shoulder buttons on PS3 are better imo though because the top ones are bigger. Some people complain about the sticks being too close together for shooters but it's more a point of what you're more used to. The only time your thumbs might ever touch is if they're hanging over the buttons but yeah stick placement is something I could see them adjusting for the next controller.

Oblivion looks like crap. Dragon age origins looks a million times better. i almost shit my pants the first time i had to fight a high dragon

Fixed :) I'd shit my pants if the dragon's name was "Puff".

picked up Dragon age, will let you know how good it is when I play it......from the time I popped it in to play it has taken almost 15 min to download and install updates and install the game to the ps3.

you are kidding right??

I am taking Dragon Age back...game looks and plays like shit.

dragon age is one of the best games ive ever played. give it a chance bro, trust me. you will NOT regret it

the characters themselves look really good. maybe the animation needs work, but the art design is SUPERB. The only thing is lag sometimes when you have a bunch of shit going on, but the story and depth of that game are unmatched. The voice acting is SUPERB. You have to like RPG's, but it's a game that really pulls you in and makes you care about the characters and outcome of your decisions.

it looks like garbage on xbox, better on the ps3 and pretty nice on PC.

seriously bro, i spent like 2 weeks of nothing but playing that game in between semesters. like 80 games of gameplay to finish, and that was doing pretty muhc all teh sidequests.

when i think of games that blew me away with awesomeness, i think of this game...metal gear solid 4.....batman arkham asylum and fallout 3. With fallout 3 being way below dragon age as far as western RPG's go

you can't decide a game sucks in an hour dude lol.

let the story develop and you'll thank you me

I will give it some time but I expected much more from Bioware.

I think the graphics are terrible even for PS3 games...looks more like a PS2 game to me.

I have all 3 systems and they collect dust for the most part, cuz I loves my pc.

I do use the ps3 for watching blu-ray movies though.

Popped in Uncharted 2 last night for the first time in a few months. Update required, downloaded and installed in all of 1 minute. :)
No HDD install with this game either ftw.

Gave it some time.

The only only things I can find that are better about the PS3.

1.Blu-ray....awesome to watch movies and games have much much more storage space and much more
potential.

2. Sound...probably the Blu-ray again...sound seems high def, more detailed.

3. media capabilities.... doesn't seem as finicky as the xbox as far as playing video types and videos seem to look better for some reason.

3. able to copy videos over to the hard drive.

4. Bluetooth everything.

5. rechargeable controllers.

Cons.

1. Sorry but the games and game line up are poor compared to the xbox.

2. Controller is terrible and needs to be redesigned, admit or not the xbox has a much better controller and control lay out.

3. yeah, online play is free but doesn't even compare to the xbox, not to mention their plans for "PlayStation Plus"

PlayStation Plus: A Great Idea Bereft of Content - PCWorld

Seems like a terrible idea, unless they really step up the free games(not bullshit shovelware either),and maybe some free rentals per month of Sony's movies.

4. the PlayStation store is a mess and needs to be completely retooled.

5. the updates, installs and downloads are really lame, I can download a demo, feature whatever and run it only to be prompted to update it and install it again?

The PCWorld article was pretty negative but even their conclusion was that it's just getting started.

I've used Xbox Live but not enough to give an accurate opinion. Could you please explain what is so great about it (besides X-game chat)?
Ditto for Xbox 360 game lineup?

xbox live is just easier, the menu system, the party system....and I could care less about the x game chat.

Games are a matter of opinion, I simply like the offering on xbox alot more.

I'll admit they seem to have their online gaming community structured more conveniently within Xbox Live. I don't game online enough to notice much inconvenience on either one though. About the only game I'd get a 360 for is Gears 2 (and 3). Anything else I'd just play on PC. PS3 to me simply has a broader range of high quality games and features. To each their own is the moral of the story it seems.
