After my competition in seven weeks I am thinking of switching to the westside method of training. I have a few problems though. As of now I can only train once a day on Monday,Tuesday,Thursday, and Friday and wednesday can be arranged if needed. The weekends are pretty much out except for the occasional meet on Saturdays that I can get off of work for. Another problem is the gym I work out in doesnt have a power rack. We have every machine possible as far as Nautilus, Hammer Strength, etc. We also have all the free weights as well which includes dumbells and everything. Our gym is loaded with all the possible equipment but a power rack. Is there anyway I could still lift westside style without this? I tried to get the owner to get rid of the damn Smith Machine and get a power rack in its place but no go so far. I need a new method and want to go Westside but dont know how to go about it. Could you guys help me out with some ideas on how to workout with these days and what exercises I could do? Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks guys.

Mon Tues Thur Fri will work because it still leaves 72 hours between major muscle work. However it is not optimal....do the best you can right now. As for the power rack...that will be a problem. My first suggestion would be to find another gym... but that isn't always an option. Not having a rack is gonna put you at a major disadvantage. Sorry I don't have a solution for ya...hopefully 1-dawg will have some ideas. My only advice is get out of that fitness center you lift at and find a GYM!!

I know what your saying man its just hard to find a gym with a power rack around here. Powerlifting is not a real big thing in my town or in the surrounding towns for that matter. We have a hand full of powerlifters around here and most of them use a traditional style of lifting. Basically this area sucks for those who want to find a gym geared toward strength atheletes. I may end up sticking to traditional unless I can move after Im out of college.

damn that will make it hard to do your good mornings, box squats, actually you won't be able to do any type of squats unless they are in the smith machine which sucks.the meet you are doing is a bench only meet right?did your shirt come in yet??

It really cannot be done w/o a power rack. DO you have a garage?? If so, buy all the stuff and become one of us -- The Garage Warriors! Seriously, it takes some getting used to but you will really enjoy it more. If you have enuf guys you can even rent out a small warehouse -- it would probably only put you each out abotu 100 bucks a month. My best advice is to find a new gym. My only regret about switching over to westside is that I waited too long.

Garage Warriors is where its at. Check out the pic of my gym...THE ASYLUM. It costs me $100 a month to rent...because I live in an apartment. I know its expensive...but its a small price to pay for freedom. As for 1-dawg...yeah my one regret is that I waited to long to get started lifting WESTSIDE!!

The Mann-my meet is bench only and still no shirt. They said it would probably be in next week sometime, if it doesnt come Im going to raise hell because its been over two weeks.

Hannibal and 1-dawg-thanks for the advice guys. If I can get some things worked out I may just do what you guys said and become a garage warrior. If so I will be asking you guys for help again to develop my schedule and all.

They don't even have a sqaut rack? I lifted in a gym that didn't have a power rack for about a year using w. side training. I stack 45's until I get the height I need. I couldn't do pin presses so I just used board presses. The only thing that sucks is getting a spotter for max effort days.

No Zombie they have a squat rack but they dont have a power rack. We have a bunch of squat racks actually but not one damn power rack.
