half-lifes and lab tests

I have to have a blood test and a urine sample taken on Monday (4th), in the morning, and I am worried that the results might show traces of coke and/or frusemide in my bloodstream . Can such things be picked up with a regular blood test and urine sample? I took coke last night (friday), forgetting all about this dr appt., and as for the frusemide, I take that at random, usually most days. If the coke, in particular, was evident, what would the dr do? Would I be reported (or does 'patient confidentiality' apply)?

Excuse my naivety, I'm totally clueless :(

Here's another one:

LOL @ KEL "passyourdrugtest" -- aint' the internet great?

Mini -- is it just a general blood test or are they specifically testing for certain things? I don't know if it would show up if they are not specificaly looking for it.... but then I have no clue about that....

wow, I never knew they had sites that sold urine sample kits and blood work kits quite like that! thanks for the links. they say coke can take 2-4 days to clear from your system . Maybe I'll just try and rearrange the appt. for a later date or something.

sassy - the blood test will probably be a urea & electrolyte one. It's mainly to check whether my potassium and sodium levels are okay, and also dehydration and stuff. same goes for the urine sample, although I imagine they'll also be checking for protein (ketosis). They definitely won't be *looking* for any illegal substances or stuff like frusemide, uh, and ephedrine too (?), I was just worried that they'd be able to 'tell' anyway..?

I will probably be having blood work done every week for a while, if my electrolytes are out of whack or something, so I'd like to know for the future as well as for this immediate one.
Thanks again for the links.

I guess not to make the obvious statement - if you're getting regular testing done, why not just lay off the stuff for a while....

just a thought...

But anyway, good luck!

"why not just lay off the stuff for a while.... "

Why not just lay off the stuff period. Coke is nothing but trouble.

With those tests they wont be looking for what you took. You should be ok.......I mean you will pass the test but whether you'll be ok in the future if you don't break your habits remains to be seen.
Also, as you are in the UK, even if you failed the doctor could not tell the police. However, it isn't unheard of for docs to refuse to treat patients who use coke etc.

thanks for the information :)

I have rearranged the appt. for friday, just cos I'm a paranoid!

But, regarding coke, I am not a regular user by any stretch of the imagination. Friday was the first time I'd used this year, and I'd only taken it a handful of times last year. I have never used it as a weight-control method either, just socially.

As others have said if it is a routine lab they will not be looking for coke and therefore will not find it. However, the furosemide (lasix) if this is what you are taking could be the cause of your out of "whack" electolytes. It can cause one to pee out too much potassium, which could wreck havoc on you system and be down right dangerous from a cardiovascular point of view. Why are they doing the blood test.? Are you having any symptoms of electolyte imbalance?

I was gonna follow up w/ the lasix-- i had to go look it up to make sure. Generally this is considered one of the more dangerous diuretics and seems to be related to when you hear about bb's passing out on stage from electrolyte imbalance.

If the point of getting yourself monitored every week, please stay the hell away from the lasix! If you want to keep from feeling bloated, drink LOTS AND LOTS of water! Tea is also a mild diuretic - green tea is a killer anti-oxidant too!

Yes, I am that "nut". However, in light of what I've been told (by people who appear to be slightly less quick to flame than yourself) I am no longer considering DNP. As for the lasix, I am fully aware that it's not healthy for me to take it and I know that it can wreck havoc on my electrolytes, and that is WHY I am having blood tests. I was the one that first suggested to my dr. that I'd like to be tested. My potassium was low over the summer because of my behaviours and so I am wary that it might be low again. If the results show significant problems then I will consider my options, be they temporary supplementation or something more intensive. I have an eating disorder, it's a psychological disorder. It makes me prioritise things wrongly. That does not, however, mean that I want to die or that I deserve a commentary like yours above. I am trying to fully inform myself so that, while I still engage in certain unhealthy behaviours, I at least know the best means of damage-control.
I think that your rhetoric was unfair.

MM... just be careful with the lasix....sassy is right... its can be very dangerous:(

as for the coke.... glad to hear you dont use it for weight control:)

Im glad you're still hanging around asking questions etc. you wont always get very friendly answers but hey -- thats the internet for ya... you know the deal. just keep reading up and educating yourself and you know where i am..

NYM -- relax slut. I had a really hard week of "dieting" and training... I dont have the energy to slap you around and shit..

cheers kbg! I've calmed down now and can see why NYM wrote what she (?) did. I should take more responsibility for my actions instead of hiding under the "it's an illness" blanket. As for continuing to educate myself, I certainly will :)

lol SHE? does my avatar look like a girl?

and i only wrote what i did cause you are heading for destruction and ive seen it many times before....

LOL, sorry! I wasn't sure whether you were a guy or a girl (I noticed that some women here have men as their avators ... and some men have women ... although that latter is for more obvious reasons when the woman is naked and waving her tits in the air ;)). I thought it safer to assume you were a woman, just cos this is the woman's board, but I wasn't sure - hence the bracketed question mark. Hope you weren't offended - I am sure you *look* very masculine indeed :D

As for your previous comments, yeah, I understand why you said them. My attitude isn't very condusive to logic.
