I know how she feels: I have a bald spot a little bit smaller than a silver dollar that I have to keep covered up with my hair so it doesn't show. I hate it!
My doctor (hair loss specialist) recommended Biotin (vitamin, available at Hi Health, GNC, etc) and I have been taking 1000 mg/day for approx 6-8 months now. It didn't do anything for my bald spot, BUT my hair is strong and healthy and grows like crazy and my fingernails, which used to be brittle and flaky are now very strong and also grow really fast. The biotin took effect pretty fast, about a week or two before I saw a difference. It might help her, too.
By the way, I will be getting a transplant, and my doctor just did a test graft, yesterday, to see how it will take. I'm very excited about it. I've had the bald spot for 13 years now. They can't figure out what the cause of my problem is, other than that I banged the top of my head really hard on a sharp metal corner when I was in college. (Out, out damned spot!)
Hope this helps!!
