What is your natural hair colour? What hair colour do you have now? How long do you have to think to remember your natural hair colour? LOL When is the last time you had your natural hair colour?

My natural colour is light-medium brown in the summer I will get natural highlights when I am out in the sun. The baby hair that grows in around the front part of my hair line is often very light blonde.

Ok so someone asked me what my natural hair colour was this week and I had to pause for a good 30 seconds to think about it. LOL I think the last time I had 100% completely virgin hair was when I was umm 13. I have had my hair many shades of blonde, a good amount of different reds and a Varity of browns. I have not had my hair platinum blonde or any totally out of the norm colour.

My hair right now is L'Oreal Paris Healthy Look Crème Gloss Colour in 4AR Cool Chestnut Brown it's a good 2-3 levels darker then my natural colour.

Dang. Good question. LOL j/k

My natural hair color is dark/med brown. But if I was in the sun a lot(in Hawaii)it really lightens up to a med/light tone of brown. But that was many moons ago. It's been years since I've had virgin hair.

I wore my hair red for many years. I LOVEd it! The red/auburn is a great color for me, but a bitch to upkeep the vibrancy. In '08 I got some wild idea to finally take the red out and go back to a med brown with blonde highlights. That was fun, but again the upkeep was crazy! I'm such a perfectionist and always was in the salon. I kept that going on for about a year. Then in '09 I tried a chestnut brown. This year I went to a dark caramel brown. Not sure what I'll do for 2011. lol

In the years past, I've also gone to black and wow, that was pretty intense and cool.

Oh it's been so long since I had virgin hair...
real shade- sort of medium brown. It's been so long I kind of forget.
Have been black, blonde and everything in between.
Currently am trying to grow out hair to a natural state. I had light blonde hair last year, got it filled in with a dark coffee colour, now its faded a bit to med brown, so the roots don't really show, but i am just growing it out so i can forget about it.
I have olive undertones to my skin so it is hard trying to get the shades right without looking either yellow, green, or sallow.

I think I'm the odd one out... I still have virgin hair... I'm medium brown and have always been natural. I've been tempted on a few occasions and one of the things on my list of things to do before I die is go blonde, maybe in 2011.. I'm just scared of the upkeep...

Im with you qt, havent had all virgin hair since age 14, I've done all sorts of wrong, every shade of brown from dark to light to chocolate, jet black, blue black, actual blue streaks, dirty blonde, light blonde, platinum blond, red, burgundy, red (natural/"ginger" red like Marcia Cross) and of course all these mentions with all sorts of highlights, even ginger red with blond streaks.... :D I havent colored my hair since June and according to the mirror it's dark brown :D

idk my natural hair color. I've been blonde...black and everything in between. :) When its blonde I have dark roots when its dark my roots are lighter. I also have the very blonde natural highlights around my face. Because I change it so much, I don't attempt it on my own. I always let someone else color it for me. :)

I'm like everyone else, no virgin hair. Has been dark/medium brown for five years now but was blond to red before that.

RD

I have what my friends like to call "white girl brown" hair. That ashy, medium brown hair color only white people have...you know what I mean. It's really easy to take my hair light or dark, and I've been every color under the sun. I've been platinum blonde, a few shades of blonde in between, a bajillion shades brown with all types of highlites from blonde to red, I was black for a while with a chunk of my hair on the left hand side dyed "Raspberry Kamikaze" It was purply-pink and right now I'm a ginger. My best friend is a hair color technician at an upscale salon in town so my hair changes ALL the time, because he charges me a $20 model fee instead of the $100 whatever dollars it should be. Thank god for him. My hair hasn't been it's natural color in almost 10 years. ahhh

I never color my hair because I love my natural color...it changes with the lighting/season....even what I'm wearing or whether I curl it can change how the highlights show. I guess my base color is a light medium brown, but I've got dark lowlights and blonde and red highlights.

I've always wanted to try blonde on for size but I'm too scared I'd never get this color back.

try one of those online makeover studios that let you try on different styles and colors, even celebrity styles :P

Nef you have great hair. I wouldn't do a thing to it the colouring it really does over process it especially when going lighter. I love your hair colour as long as you don't see any grey's keep it virgin IMO.

Yeah, the whole bleaching process really does a number on hair. Plus bleached hair has literally no shine. I found that out the hard way.

my hair is black...not dark brown...black

its nearly impossible to keep it the correct color...ash is wrong..violet base is wrong....its just always wrong
only thing I've found that works is henna and indigo to get it exactly right...and for whatever reason all of a sudden my hair has decided not to take indigo on my roots...argh

I'm hoping either my indigo has gotten *stale* or the hormones are keeping my hair from picking up the indigo...

its grabbing henna just fine tho...so whats grey is red right now..mixed with my natural black...i try to think of it as highlighting...lol

If you want to go blonder you don't necissarily need bleach with your hair being already kind of light. Color glosses work wonders. Think of them as a clear tinting your hair as opposed to using an opaque dye. There are many colors and rather than dying your hair its kind of just meant to make your existing hair color more vibrant.

I imagine since you have lighter pieces of hair, if you used a blonde gloss it'd make those pieces more vibrantly blonde, which would make you look blonder overall.

Plus, the best part of glosses is they aren't damaging and leave your hair shinier :-)

I love my color....but I'm jealous of cindy's thick hair. Mine is very fine, and left alone, very straight. I have to put all kinds of crap in my hair to give it any kind of body, and even then it usually falls out after a few hours.

Cindy, how the hell did you get your hair to grow that long in the second picture and actually have it stay healthy looking? If you don't have extensions, I'm triple jealous.

Nope...no extentions :) That's all mine! lol! I have super super thick, course hair. Its naturally curly. I have to have it THINNED with a special pair of sissors. Annie, yes thats me. Thank you! :D I also blowdry my hair upside down and use large hotrollers for body instead of a curling iron.

I have used extentions in the past but my hair is way to long for that now......I have not worn them in years. I recommend them though! Do you have any Nef? That would help with body. I want to try your haircolor nef....lol! I wouldnt touch your haircolor either....don't even think about going blonde. :) What you've got is way better

yeah upside down blowdrying with a little bit of root treatment (i actually like mouse) ftw for big full hair

ditto on hot rollers instead of a curling iron too

my hair really wont hold a style for any length of time tho ..like nefs it falls out :(
only think that works for me is really excellent haircuts that accentuate the straightness of my hair instead

Try this Nef

My hair is naturally dark brown, almost black, which it is back to right now, and has been for over a decade. But I've been black, red, purple, and pink. My black period with pink and purple *chunks* sounds similar to Annie's :D

Yeaaah, black hair with a magenta chunk effed my hair up for a while. Black dye + bleach + magenta dye = your hair hates you for like, the next year or two.

Yep. If I remember correctly, I believe I cut it all off and started from scratch. lol

Just got mine changed to a darker walnut colour :) For free too, my friend works in an aveda salon, and she got me a free gift certificate for cut colour and style- it was supposed to be from a contest, but she just gave it to me. I love my new hair!

You can add natural colors without harming your hair with harsh chemicals. Products like Henna, Indian gooseberries (amla) and reetha can be used to get a dense color to your virgin hair. These won’t harm your hair condition as well. a pack made of these powders mixed with curd, egg white and lime juice will act as a coloring agent as well as a conditioner. Soak for 2-3 hours depending upon the desired hair color and wash with Shikakai and water mixed with lime juice. These products are easily available in all Indian grocery stores.

Oh. Lol no I'm just bad at reading humor into words on a screen sometimes. I do that with text messages too.

I was trying to make a funny Miss afeedz... clearly I failed :sulk: ;)

I saw the humour in it, I remember those posts about the shower dildo ;)

Since the conversation has gone from hair color to shower dildos, this might be a good time for my question. My husband asked about coloring ALL of my hair. I guess I'm a prude, but I've never heard of this. Anybody tried to color your pubic hair? Do you use normal hair color or is there something specifically for it?

Rebecca D

I've heard of it. Putting ammonia-laden permanent hair color anywhere near my area scares the shit out of me lol

I don't know if theres a special dye or something?

that's a great question, a classmate in high school use to die them PURPLE for her boyfriend o_O not sure how though.... let me google it :p

haha...I've bleached pubes but with facial bleach cuz I was pretty sure it wasn't gonna burn my bits

LMAO anyone remember sex in the city and the episode with samantha and boozo the bush :D

I just put deep violet glaze in my hair for a little change last month I did a red glaze.

You're so lucky you have curly hair!!!! My sister has perfect spiral ringlets naturally- grr!!!
I am thinking about getting hot rollers, but in my experience, my hair does not hold a curl for more than 10 minutes :(
There's a lot of it, and it is long, but it is too fine. Barrettes slip out of it, head bands fall off, pinsloosen and fall out, you get the picture.
Regular rollers don't work, curling irons large and small are no match for the will of my hair to go limp...lol. I don't want to do wet set, because i don't want to sleep in them-too uncomfortable.
Needless to say I wear it down and straight, or in a ponytail.

I hear u, I too have fine hair, I've never tried using hot rollers, maybe I should... I usually wear my hair naturally or I blow dry it..

i can't air dry, the top is flat, but the bottom is more poufy- it's very unattractive ;)
Have to blow dry and go over ends with a flat iron.

Naturally my hair is very curly too, Cindy :-) You always want what you can't have, I guess. Because I think my curly hair is the biggest pain in the ass, but people are always telling me they wish they had curls like mine.

Grass is always greener.

Anyways, for the ladies with fine, straight hair...my twin sister, funny enough, has fine straight hair and when she wants curls, I do it for her using a straightening iron. It needs to be a straightening iron who's plastic around the hot plates is rounded like a
Chi (as a reference, though I personally think they're a waste of money)...as opposed to square-edged ones which won't work, but it always works for her and the curls stay. I don't why it works for her better than curlers or a curling iron but it does with just that and a tiny amount of hair spray (not enough to be hard or crunchy, just enough to create texture)

It works the same way as curling ribbon with scissors. I use it too when, for example, some of my curls are frizzy. I'll use it to curl those pieces into non-frizzy fake curls. I also love curling hair that way bc all the curls don't look exactly the same, so it looks less fake to me.

I'll try finding a YouTube tutorial and posting up.

Other than that, I'd look into a texturizing spray (it's not typical hair spray). I have one I'd have to go check the name of. But the purpose is just this, to put some texture in to fine hair to make it more style-able.

here's a vid you can FF to around 3:45. I didnt watch the entire vid, bc I obviously already know how to do this. You don't need to watch the whole thing either really, just enough to show you how to turn the straightening iron to make it curl.

I'd say just don't use sections too big and remember to curl pieces near your face away from your face.

I will also say it takes a little practice, but once you get it, it's the easiest. And the best part is, you can change the size of the curls depending on the angle you turn the iron at. I usually do curls on my sister but I can just as easily do waves on myself when I don't want my hair to be so curly. So yeah, takes a little practice but it works on my curly hair and my sisters straight hair.

I will say about her technique that she turns her straightening iron much more than I do though. When I put my sisters hair in the iron, I turn the iron only about 180 degrees because when I turn it more, her hair gets stuck at some point while dragging it through.

That's really cool! Mine has a semi flat edge, but I'll try it anyway.
I know the texturing spray stuff, TIGI superstar queen for a day is nice for a while, but leaves my hair a bit limp and greasy feeling after a couple of hours.
I have the worst hair ever. A stylist wanted to put Moroccan oil on, and I just laughed. She put a bit on anyway, and it was disgusting after about five minutes. I usually don't use product because it is too heavy for my hair. Sometimes a touch of hairspray, but once that's on, I know I have to wash my hair the next day.

If it gets greasy quickly, have you ever tried a dry shampoo? Bumble and bumble makes ones for different hair colors.

I have not, I just avoid product. Maybe I'll try that, does it really work?

Yeah, I just use hotrollers cuz if you leave those suckers in for a good 30 minutes while you finish getting ready those curls will never fall. I can go three days with the same curls. Plus its easier than a curling or straightening iron

IN the pics I posted I had run a straightening iron through my hair before the rollers so it wouldn't curl SO MUCH...if you have fine hair and use a setting spray...maybe they won't fall? idk

That's what I'm thinking. I tried them at a friend's house a while ago, and I remember getting some nice curl out of it.

I think I'm gonna try to use my hot rollers and use a setting spray.. see if it works for me.

Is setting spray like hairspray? Is there a good brand that is under 20 $?

Redkin hot sets is like...10 bucks! I hope it works for you guys! Rollers are where its at! ahahaha it took a min for me to learn how to do it quickly but I never use a curling iron anymore unless I'm travelling and don't want to lug my rollers around.

^ Rollers are def awesome. It's worth it to try to make them work for you because they're much less damaging than the other curling methods: curling/straightening irons, chemicals, etc.
