Anyway The oly platform and bumpers arrived today!
Kinda bitter sweet. Pretty cheap and crappy setup - see attached pic. No bar so I had to use crpapy gym bar!
But it is a cheap gym...anyway it seems I can't even drop the weights unless I make a miss...BOO!
Pretty loud though in the gym - echoey

A bit slippery too, sorta uneven, I was losing my balance :(

It's also right in the middle of the gym..right in front of everyone...ugh

They are Australian Barbell Company bumpers - they work ok, for any Aussies thinking of getting some. Only a pair of each unfortunately, but I'm not that strong so I guess it doesn't matter for a while.

Pretty loud when dropped from overhead...

I have the Australian Barbell Company metal plates. Just ordered two more 20kgs for $50.80 each from one of their distributors (Olympic Fitness in Victoria). The bumpers are something like $80 for a 20kg plate. Damn expensive!

I like the colorful plates, LoL

Don't they also make bumper bars, or am i mistaken. Isn't it pointless getting one without the other?

one of the first things i learnt,
if its shit, drop it or get injured.

thats a damn shame for you

$80 for a 20 seems a bit cheap!

Im thinking of getting the colour coaded ones........can you let me know a bit more about them? a personal review

Well there are proper smooth spinning olylifting bars than are slightly smaller in diameter than gym bars and also flex more. But these cost big $ so I guess my gym is not getting some :)

Well I've only used the green (10kg) and yellow (15kg) ones as loaded on the bar - I did power cleans and power jerks with em, will post a clip later - horrible form though :)
The platform makes a nice stomp bang just like the Ironmind clips :D

anyway the plates are snug fit on the oly bar, there are slightly grooved in the centre hole I think. They are encased in rubber, but feels more like plastic. They are supposed to be calibrated so they should be all close to weight. They look decent enough, good to hold. But you can see there is a difference in colour with the red (25kg) plates.
What else can I say? They work :)

Man I have to think in kilograms now :freak:

yeah you have to add metal 10, 5 and 2.5lb plates to these.

I can drop it, but not from high overhead like after a jerk. And not deliberately

damn

why would they spend all that money on olympic stuff if they're not gonna let people drop it anyway? That's what the equipment is designed for, right?

still an improvement over using iron plates though!
