gym accident thoughts

some idiot left a weight on the floor and I backed up and tripped on it, and landed hard on my back on a concrete section of the gym. luckily i did not hit the back of my head or land on my arms but it was kinda like a thud when i landed. i was on the ground and punched the ground out of anger then got up and laughed it off and continued working out.

well the next day my neck, collarbone, and ribs seem to be hurting. you hear about QB's in the NFL get bruised ribs all the time. it doesn't hurt to breathe except if i really exhale sharply it feels like a stabbing pain my upper ribs ..what do you guys/gals think? is it like bruised bones?

anyone have a gym story to share where you got hurt or where you saw someone get hurt?

i'm sure its just some bruising i wouldn't worry about it, but yeah i'd be pissed too lol

i had a near accident one time...

I was doing bent over db rows on a bench with i think an 85 or 90lb db with a round shape so it rolled easily. I finished my set and was looking up at the tv above me and wasn't paying attention, and luckily i looked down right as the huge db rolled off the bench and started falling toward my toes. Idk how but i snatched it right before it landed on my foot. i'm pretty sure that would of caused some broken toes haha.

also, i saw a guy doing db bench press one time, and after his set without sitting up he just threw the dbs off to the side without paying attention, and unluckily for him there were other dbs around him and he broke a finger between 2 of them... that would suck :\

was helping a friend do negatives on the free weight leg extension machine. with like 5 plates on it my hand slipped and got smashed. luckily it rests on a rubber peice but it made my finger fill with blood and my nail fell off. i picked up the 5 plates with my other arm like it was only 20 lbs lol.

Doesnt sound serious at all. Probably just minor bruising. If it lasts too long though or gets worse get it checked out

was doing dumbell presses on the old style. with the wrench to tighten the screw. I was in the middle of a press when the two dumbells touched and it unloaded onto my left eye. split it wide open 11 stitches and one very black eye.

was doing strugs and the gym I was training at had the power rack with supports that you slip through the hole and has a bolt for a screw to attach to.well it had no lock on it. I was unloading the one side and the entire support shifted and a 45lb plate landed on my baby toe and the next one to it and split it open like a tomato hitting a wall. 7 stitches to close that one.

and the best of all. Was doing leg presses with 1100lbs on the press which usually wasn't a issue until my right leg decided it didn't want to do any work at all and shifted all the weight to my left well shit. the press came down and my right leg popped right out of my hip socket. hear I am pinned under this leg press with my leg at a right angle and I'm like shit. So being the brave person I am. I put the palm of my hands onto the top of my femer and put. F##k it hurt but it popped back in.
Tear a few of the smaller muscles but the trama to my leg was incredible. My legs bruise from knee cap to knee cap all the way around totally black it was funky as hell. even my caulk went black.

jesus, that leg press thing sounds like a nightmare lol i hope that never happens to me

^^agreed! Yikes!!

I've seen and had a few smashed fingers and the only other real injuries I've seen have been guys actually fighting and punching each other in the face (seen it twice in the last couple of years). A little too much test in the free weight section. ;)

Hope you feel better Stevesmi!

Do you know who left the weight there? I realize if you saw him leave it there, you wouldn't have tripped over it, but there are some idiots who repeat their idiot behavior over and over. If I did that to you and saw you wipe out, I'd feel incredibly guilty and would probably clean up my act.
I hope you're not seriously hurt. Punching cement is not good. Bones and cement don't get along...

even my caulk went black.

You know what they say "once you go... LOL

But seriously, that sounds fuckin terrible.

Most I ever got was when doing barbell shrugs, I missed one of the pins on the right side of the rack. Slid down my shin and bled a bit.

The other was when I damaged my L1 & L2 a month or 2 ago while stretching(too far) at the end of a heavy cable row set. Literally couldn't walk for days.

Oh and fucked up my shoulder incline BB pressing. Rotator cuff. Took some time off after.

wost thing that happen to me in the gym is a spilled a whole large black coffee all over the floor. Had to be the dumb fool that every one stares at well i cleaned it all up... never gotten hurt at the gym... Knock on wood....

first year of college I was in the squat rack coming back up from an ass to grass on my 3rd rep with 315 (which was alot for me then) guy in the squat rack next door was loading his bar walked backwards right into the end of my barbell - threw me off balance big time and tore something in my back but managed to get it back up. Put me out of the game for 3 months while it healed and felt it after that for about another year. (Dude didn't even say sorry just looked back at me and went back to whatever he was doing)

Also have dropped a plate on the toes and lost a few toenails.

I dropped a 35 on my shin...still have a nice scar too.

This thread actually has the potential to be epic...

The only injury was when I was a freshman in highschool and lifting for football. I was doing push press but it was a lot for me at the time, like 150 or something. I didn't even weigh 150 when I was a freshman lol. But when the bar came back down and I went to catch it, my knees locked up so I didn't absorb any of the shock in my legs, and took it all in my back. I'm not sure what I did, but I fucked something up in my lower back because it took about 10 minutes to go from laying in bed to standing up for about the next week, and then recovery was very slow. Sometimes I can still slightly tweak it.

I've had several injuries in the gym and SM training.

Earlier this year I won a truck pull, pulling a 45k lb cement truck 110'. Even though I won I wasn't happy about a few things, so I decided to work on them with a friend just using his Dodge 2500 pick up. I was going for speed and form. Then on my 4th run it felt like I got shot in the left leg. Turned out I did a 90% tear of my soleus and 50% tear in my gastroc.

I was loading stones one day, and was really tired. I sat with a 345 in my lap for too long. When I stood up to load it, I passed out mid load. My friend pushed the stone away as I went down, but I smashed the back of my head on the bar of the axle.

Sometimes when I am warming up in the squat rack, I go with a VERY wide grip until these old shoulders want to play ball. I had 315 on the bar and when I was done with the set I went to rack it, not noticing until it was too late that my fingers of my left hand were between the bar and j-hooks. Lost a few nails on that one.

Back when I was around 14 or so I had a Sears plastic/cement weight set. I was real gungho newbie bodybuilder back then. 2 hour sessions non-stop. Dozen exercises for 3-4 sets all to failure lol. 5-6 days a week. No legs or lats. MASSIVE overtraining/SHITTY training.

One day I was doing standing behind neck presses and as I hit failure I let the bar pull back to far and think I tore my left rotator very mildly. I didn't lift for a good 6 weeks and then worked back into it pretty slowly.

Tore my right pec a little near the sternum attachment doing extreme stretching dumbell flyes. Yup, was around 14-15 years old. I have a small indent where it happened on the inside of the pec.

Tweaked my left knee out doing squats with TERRIBLE form while standing on 45lbs plates. I was around 18 and it was my first foray into doing any leg work at all. Took a good year for my knee to regain full strength/stability and to stop cricking throughout the whole duration of a single squat. That pissed me off.

Those are the one's that stand out the most. Nothing super serious, but they were all lame and impacted training with the knee thing lasting a good year.

Looking back it scares me how atrocious my form probably was.

8th grade locker room was smelling in August heat from 2-a-days. Took a 45lb. weight from the weight room and when I was setting it in the door to prop it open, slip, it came crashing down from my waist to the top of my foot and broke some toes and has some bruising. Was out for a few weeks and only missed a scrimmage.

Last week was walking from the Dip bars to the DB section and had to pass through all of the Smith Benches. I was walking around with a 100lb DB not paying attention and as I turned the corner I hit my head on the Smith bench bar that was sitting all the way up at the top.

I hit it hard but shook it off and kept walking, couple of people saw it, was pretty embarassing. I bled through my hat from it.

Damn @ leg press story.

I was doing incline dumbell press w/120 pound dbs. I try to never drop the weights but rather sit up with them and re-rack them. Well the guy next to me leaves his 30 pound dumbells right in the middle of the guddamn floor between the benches and the db racks. I trip on them luckily didnt fall, I proceeded to kick the dumbells about 10 feet, im sure he got the idea.

Why were you wearing a hat in a gym?

Everyone asks me that. I always have a hat, own about 10-15 of them.

I shave my head completely bald and sweat like a pig and it catches all the sweat without me dripping all over the place.

It was a good thing I did as I would have had a gash in my head insted of the indian burn. :)

Don't worry about wearing a hat man, it's perfectly ok, I even wear it when I'm going to bed cuz it's bad a$$ like that :D

I was doing incline dp presses in high school and my workout partner left his db on the floor. When I got done with my set, I lowered them pretty fast and sandwiched my finger between the two db's, splitting my finger wide open and needing stiches. Another time in hs, I was squating below parallel, lost my ballance and fell back. Didn't know it at the time but I had my knuckle inside the holes in the power rack and when I stood up, I ripped the skin off. Still can see the half circle scar 23 years later.

Id say the worst was when I was doing flat dumbell presses and forgot I put my plastic waterbottle right beside the bench. Unfortunately I put the weight down right on top of it exploding plastic and water across the entire freeweights section. I feel ya needto, on wiping that shit up while everyone looked at you like a complete idiot
