Grip

Into my 4th week of my 5*5 but my grips on deads is getting harder to keep with the weight increases. I know the program calls for 1 set but I do 3 cause I love deads. Every set I have to regrip after every rep which only takes a second and on last set halfway through had to use mixed grip. Should I keep doing this or start using mixed grip through the whole thing to keep consistency? And should my grip get stronger as I go?

Your grip will get stronger as you do, you just might need to focus on it at times. Grip used to hold me back on deads too, but since I've been using captains of crush and the occasional DB shrug, things have improved.

Where you using double overhand grip? Not many can dead near their potential without a mixed grip. Double overhand is great if you can do it but that's pretty rare.

You may have to do some grip work to strengthen your grip. I prefer farmers walk or holds but that is also because I do strongman.

Also be carefull not to overtrain grip. It can mess you up for months!

Yes double overhand grip. I'm about under 100# of my max. I'll try the different grip exercises yall mentioned but as you said I may be near the max I can do with that grip.
Thank yall for the help!

you should use an alternated grip bro. plus it works the forearms a bit differently like that.

Do you use chalk at all? After I started using it I can't do deads without it anymore. Definitely pick some up if you don't have some and you should have no problem.

overtrain your grip?... you mean like tear off a calouss?...

Actually I wear gloves. Never used chalk. The bad thing is I work out at a 24 hour gym so they don't have any chalk along with many other things. Not really sure where I can get it from but ill look into it.

Check places that sell rock climbing stuff.... Chalk will improve your grip alot...after i do a couple warm ups i make a tired look on my face an say "i need to wake up" then i pull out a zip lock with some chalk and whoever im with there eyes get all big like its crank lol

I dont care much for gloves

id take the gloves off and start working your grip a bit differently on some assistance exercises. do your warm ups with a towel wrapped around the bar. hang from a pull up bar - do farmers walks etc etc

for now i would use a mix grip for the sets you need to.

As i've heard many people say before, "I hope you have a purse to match your gloves"....

just switch to an over/under grip (imo), alternate it each workout, and if you want do some static holds or farmers walks after your DL sets if you feel it's really a problem.... Or add them the next workout so your grip will be fresh for your next pulling session.
