A man was stabbed to death and then decapitated on a Greyhound bus travelling through Portage la Prairie, Man., early Thursday, witnesses confirm. Witnesses on the bus told CTV's Murray Oliver that a young man, between the ages of 18 to 20, was killed.

"He was listening to music when suddenly the person next to him began to stab him in the neck with... a large butcher knife," Oliver reported Thursday from Brandon, Man., where the passengers have since been taken. Oliver said the bus driver pulled over and some of the 37 passengers began to flee.

"A number of people decide to go back and see if they could help," said Oliver. "They returned to the back of the bus to find that the person who was stabbing the person in the neck had now sawed off the head of (the victim)."

I think we all just need to reflect on what happened and be concerned for the well being of the man who did this act. We know nothing of his background. He may have been abused as a child, he could be an immigrant struggling with being in an oppressive nation, he could just be a lost soul looking for love.

Or he could have been hungry:

"We have word from people on the scene . . . that when the killer was alone with the body . . . that there may have been some small acts of cannibalism on the body," Oliver said.

I think it say a lot about Canadians that none of them did a thing to help him. I'm in a military town and we help people.

Someone pulled a gun in a club and started shooting years ago. We immediately grabbed him, took away his gun, and proceeded to kick the crap out of him. He was in the hospital for months with brain damage. But you're right - we also could've ran like little bitches.

Dont' worry the Canadian Justice system will give him 8 years with good behavior.

Disgruntled worker came into my workplace about 10 years ago and shot the place up. We jumped him and took away the gun. Not all Canadians are pussies.

* It turns out the driver and 2 passengers trapped the guy in the rear of the bus until authorities arrived.

When the shooter came to his classroom, Liviu barred the door with his body so his students could escape through the window. The shooter put 5 shots through the door and Librescu. He was a holocaust survivor from a labor camp in Transnistria who gave his own life to protect those of his students.

Caton said he saw the suspect had the victim on the floor of the bus and "was cutting his head off and pretty much gutting him."

He said the attacker calmly came to the front of the bus to show off the head.

"He dropped the head and went back and started cutting the body back up," said Cody Olmstead, a passenger from Kentville, Nova Scotia.

this was in alberta too, I think it happened near red deer been hearing about it alot on the radio's on my drive home.

Apparently as of this morning he got 2nd degree, I don't know how the degree's worse, but this bitch should be executed, or locked up for life, fucking seriously twisted.

Dude, I was stabbed by a huge knife and even part of the handle was in my left forearm. I still got the freaking crackhead down and jammed my elbow so freaking hard on his throat that he submitted. Some totally ridiculous generalizations here. You cannot judge an entire country's people based on a such a small sample size as 1 bus. Besides, it turned out some people did make sure to trap him inside the bus until cops arrived. This same type of incident could have happened anywhere...

I just don't understand the blind nationalistic, "it's us vs them" mentality from some on here. People are people. Yes we all have cultural differences, but deep down most of us as HUMANS all want the same things. I have met many good hearted people who would help at the drop of a hat, as well as ones who are more likely to stand and stare. These come from all over the world including USA, Canada, and all across Europe.

We are all in this world together. and should all stick together. Fuck the blind nationalistic view. The fact that we are all humans should supercede what country we happened to be born in. So if your dad beside you was being stabbed - you would just write him off and get off the bus.

If you say no because he's your dad - you've now said you would only save someone's life if they were related to you. Real standup guy in life.

He was being stabbed - people knew immediately. But instead of stopping - they got up, passed him in the aisle - then left the bus.

What if he grabbed your wife while you were both running off the bus - and he stabbed her? Oops! Now she's dead too. Because your fleeing ass decided "it was not worth it to stop him". Well done.

What if he attacked and killed a 11 y/o girl after he was done and you were off the bus safely outside? Or is your opinion completely changed if it was a bus in the US? Somehow I bet it would.

I don't need to "armchair". I've taken away a gun from a shooting guy. I also could've ran too. But I ain't no big fat baby like Canadians (and Americans in san francisco or va tech).

for one, I for one never ever once stated that I myself personally would have ran away. I wasn't on the bus, I honestly can't tell you if I would have ran or tried to do something. I like to think I would have tried to do something to make a difference, I just hate the generalization that oh canadians are fleeing bitches now because of one incident.
