Got a 65 pound deadlift PR today!

Maxed out on deads today. Last time I maxed out was about 6 or 7 weeks ago. I pulled 235 then. I deadlift sumo style, usually with an overhand grip but it started to give out today so I used a mixed grip instead. no equipment or anything. Today I worked up to a single with 300 for a 65 pound PR :D

Straight leg DLs, feet close together:
warm up sets, then 3x5x165lbs

Sumo DLs
155x1
175x1
195x1
205x1
225x1
225x1
245x1 (10 lb pr, easy)
265x1
285x1
295x1 (getting tired at this point)
300x1 (form was breaking down a little)

probably too much work beforehand but I wasn't expecting such a jump in strength. Bodyweight is 190.

Anyhow, thanks to everyone on the boards for all the training information. I wouldn't even have started lifting without this board. I don't post much, but I read all the time and I'm obviously benefiting from it. :)

super progress man! karma...

is it better to do deadlifts like this if you're training for strength? what i mean is one rep sets. I'm doing 5x5 now, just curious if theres any benefit to the way you're doing it.

If you're going solely for strength and not hypertrophy, 1-3 reps per set is a common range. If I were to train that way, I'd work my way up with 3 reps per set, and then maybe move up with heavy singles at the end. But going heavy for long enough without changing up exercises might overstress your CNS. Tagio was probably just maxing out to see what he could do for a 1RM. I doubt that's anything like his usual workouts. From what people say, 5x5 is a great program for size and strength (but I'm sure you know that).

By the way, congratulations Tagio.

congrats bro. 315 is around the corner! 315 is cool because it looks like you're picking up a truck axle!
