Good mile time?

Lee

New member
As of today, I jogged 2 miles in right around 20 mins. What is a good time per mile? Ive been told about 7 mins per mile, but ive also been told up to 11 mins a mile.

In reality, whatever your comfortable with ... i can go for a run, and sur eif you break it down my average mile might be about 8 - 9 minutes, but starting out im prolly around 9-10 ... not like I'm racing, just trying to get some cardio in and build the heart rate up.

So really its whats comfortable for you for now ... work on going further then work on reducing your time ...t hats my 2 cents anyways.

what good is being able to run a 6 minute mile if you can only run one of them?

It really depends what you goal is. A 7 minute mile is pretty good. When I played football in high school and was 165 pounds I could run a mile in 6.5 minutes. Now I think if I tried to run my knees would break from all the stress. If you arent competing and way more 200 pounds, which i know you do 7-8 minutes is quite good, especially if you havent been training for distance running.

When I was 16 I ran a round a 5 1/2 minute mile. Of course I weighed 135. Now, at 140lbs heavier, I'd be happy to make an 8 minute.:) Like RusPA said, my body feels like its going to fall apart when I run now. Kinda sucks.

yea thats how i always feel when i run, but its worth it. im gonna try to get down to 8 minute miles a month from now, ill see how it goes :D

In the marines they train you to run 3 miles in 18 minutes. My best friend (who is a marine) can do it but he's not large. Most marines are pretty skinny. There are some fucking huge ones too though, I wonder if they can still run that time.

My best has been 2 miles in 12 minutes... 6 minute miles. It isn't close to a world record... but it was the first time I out ran my dog. :)

Here's what I looked like this month running a 5K..

My pace was 8:45 I believe... slow by my standards.

My best mile ever is 4:56

depends if your running track or treadmill.. my track times are always faster... prob cuase Im trying to impress the hot guys on the in-field... LOL!!

I ran competative track and field... so yeah you basically are sprinting the entire mile.. at least that is what it feels like.

4:56 was decent.. but there are guys that can do it MUCH faster.

My best was 6:49. It was purely fueled out of spite for my track coach for making me do it (late to practice).

my personal best before now was in 8th grade (back when i smoked cigarettes) and it was around 12 minutes, lol

My best is 5:43, but that was last year, this whole track season has been fucked though. It's really dissapointing, because I broke my pr in cross country by like two minutes and thirty seconds.

my best time was 6:20 as i recall, a couple weeks after i finished basketball sophmore year in hs. I had really good 'wind' that year; coach ran us a bit too much imo

I ran a 5:58 in HS once. Almost passed out affterwards.

I also ran 2.8 miles in just under 12 mins for gym class that same year. That felt really easy, though.

Now?? I'd be lucky to finish a mile walking....:D

I'm 54 year old male 6'4 290 pounds
I have been running for a three weeks now and had my best pr to day for the mile.
I did a mile in 9:24 today. Is that an okay time for a man of my age?

I'm not sure the time is as important as the fact that we are moving. I actually ran two plus miles today without stopping. I only fast walked for an additional mile (half at the beginning and half at the end). Pretty excited about that.

that's fine bro... for you though, while cardio is definitely important (you weigh a lot, so if it hurts your knees you might want to consider starting off walking/biking, but your diet is going to be the make/break factor. Once you get your diet in check, you'll be well on your way man.

lol old thread, but i use to run 2.5miles in 19mins wen i was training long distance running when i was 16

but then again u can look at the guys in the olympics, man those kenyans and etheopians are unreal

they run the 3.2mile in 13mins, they thats unreal, think thats 4 minutes a mile :)

Ya they are incredible. But you'd be fast too if you grew up having to run away from lions and shit. lol Hope no one takes offense to this. Im just playin

That's good, keep it up
I ran just over 4 1/2 miles last night and my pace was about the same. I'm not a sprinter by any means.
