nike makes some that look like tennis shoes with soft spikes, i have a pair they work real well.
or u might want to try footjoy, i think they make some of the old style.
ive had my nike for about 5 years, they have held up pretty good, starting to crack a bit around the edges, they have been wet a few times. i dont play as much as i used to, going to try and play a little this fall when it cools off a bit.
Yea, usually they lower the fees a bit at the public courses in July, August due to the locals not wanting to sweat to death mostly mid day... Afternoons are crowded as are early mornings.. Jan - May is prime season and its sometimes hard to get a tee time even M-F mornings..
