getting softer!?!

over the summer i really busted my ass on a cutting type diet...i lost about 6 lbs...went from 131 to 125 (i'm 5'6'')...anyways, i don't know if i did the cut for far too long and i was shocking my body anymore or what but i've noticed that lately i seem softer than i used to...is it possible that i haven't been eating enough and lost my muscle?? :( gosh, i hope not...i just feel that i was harder whenever i weighed in at about 130...who knows?? this whole thing is so complicated...my boyfriend is a big time fitness buff and works at a body building supplements store...he seems to think i wasn't eating enough to maintain the muscle i had...just wanted a girl's opinion...let me have it...i'm desperate...katie

did you do circumference measurements? the tale of the tape can really tell you alot. how about a skinfold measurement?

another thing to keep in mind. fat cells are little cells with big sacs of fat globules. as those cells take up less space, the skin may not rebound as quickly and give you a "soft" feel. ever feel someone who has that "hard" fat and then someone who is losing bodyfat, the skin gets softer initially as the fat cells decrease in volume. this is why skinfold measurements can tell you your bodyfat %.

im not discounting the possibility of you losing some muscle also, but there are other possibilities.

i'm getting my bodyfat measured tomorrow and i will post that tomorrow evening...i'm anxious to see what it is...got it tested about 2 years ago and it was 21%...hoping it's lower than that now....125 isn't enough for my height is it?? i haven't been trying to lose weight, just bodyfat....that was just an unwanted side effect i guess....maybe i'm going about it the wrong way....i stopped doing cardio so that i would quit losing weight...now i'm trying to up my cals a bit and do heavier weight/lower reps in the weight room...i really want to gain muscle mass and still remain relatively lean...i don't care how much the scale says as long as i feel good and look good in my clothes...it'd be nice to keep wearing my size 4 clothes...don't have the funds to buy new ones...about the pic, i'm really not sure how to post one...if anybody can fill me in, i'd be glad to put one up ASAP...thanks for the replies...katie

125 @ 5 ft 6 in. does seem a bit light especially if youre lifting on a regular basis.
You can upload a pic from your computer to your photo gallery here then post it from your gallery to the thread. NONERZ showed me how one time but i dont think i could explain exactly how to do it LOL

ok, i'm working on that picture thing...made an appointment to get bodyfat tested tomorrow...maybe i will know a little more about what's going on with my bod when i find out what it is...my ultimate goal is to get to around 17%...something i can hopefully maintain all the time...on the same token, i would also like to add at least 5 lbs of solid muscle to my frame as well...maybe even more....i'll try to hurry with the pic and the bf results...

ok, got the body fat tested using calipers...he tested 4 different sites on my bod...anyways the reading was 17.1%, i was thinking it was at least 20 but oh well...17 is even better...i was told that in order to look my very best and leanest...i would need to add more muscle to my frame...probably about 10 lbs...i know it's going to take some time but i'm willing to give it a shot...he advised me to eat around 2000 cals a day....maybe even a bit more....i was eating around 1400-1600....so basically i'm going to really try to put on some good muscle and not be too concerned with my bodyfat for now....i'm going to change my workout to heavier weight with lower reps...i lift 4 days a week...the guy also told me that cardio was not a complete necessity at this time...that i could get away with only a couple sessions a week of mostly sprints and stuff like that...anyways, i'm going to give this a shot...if anyone else has pointers or advice i'd love to hear what you have to say...going to try to post that pic tonight...talk to you all soon...and fill this thread with great advice for me!! --katie

ladybug - 17% is great. Im glad to hear your trainer gave you some good advice such as eating more, adding muscle, cutting back on cardio and going heavier on the weights!! sounds like your trainer knows his/her stuff. consider yourself lucky there.

i know...17% does sound great but i never would've dreamed i was that low...i hope the reading is right...anybody know what supplements i should be taking...i've heard about things such as glutamine or glucosamine...all i take now is a multi-vitamin and my protein shakes (regular whey or muscle milk)...

Here's the pic in your gallery...
